Mmmmm I made lavendar and beeswax soap.
It smells so good and looks so good.
I will post as soon as it is done cooling.

Also I have a new craft corner! My mom gave me her desk which is now equipped with all my soap making, craft making and sewing things.
Oh I got my sewing machine fixed yesterday, and I have repairs every ripped article of clothing and made a quick pillow case, that will be made into a decroative pillow as soon as I get fill and some clear thread.
I will post that as well when it is done! :)

if only to make something crappy and random:

The back is all puckered 'cause I got a phone call and did a half-assed job. But, I do like how bizarre it is. I like the idea of someone seeing it and saying, "Dolly? Madonna? Wonder Woman? What the?"

By the way, this is a super-cheap gift idea. If you go to the bargain area of Borders or B&N, they usually have pretty good deals on big, boring-looking journals (this one was $5.99). I made this for a friend and one for myself a while ago. I think a lot of my holiday gifts for others this year will simply be decoupaged journals 'cause I'm poor.

Hello.. and I'm new to this community.

Somewhat mutally, my roomate and I have decided to decorate the front of our door for Halloween. Since I'm the art student, I decided to ask for some simple, creative ideas that I could enhance the lacking "Halloween-ness" of my door. I used yellow "Caution" tape and cut out a ghost and pumpkin out of Bristol Board (I have left over peices lying around usually.. and it's heavier than copy paper). Just something festive for Halloween would be greatly appreciated.

Sorri if I cross post >.

A friend and I are dressing up as Raggedy Ann and Andy for Halloween. But we're stumped for the hair. Neither of us have enough money to just buy the red haired wig, so we were hoping to make them. Any suggestions as to what we could do?

I was thinking that I could maybe take a toque..I don't know how to describe this if you aren't familiar with it....a wool hat kind of thing, and hot glueing a bunch of red yarn to it. Would that work?

Okay, so my question isn't really craft-related, BUT:

I'm planning on dressing up as the powerpuff girl Buttercup for halloween(the one with the green dress an black hair). While this is contingent upon me finishing the black corset and green dress, I have no idea how to make my hair fit the costume. My hair is about shoulder length(the right length if I make the ends do the flippy thing) and brownish at the moment. I'm willing to dye it, but not anything that it will be imperitive to bleach out - like black dye. Anyone have any creative suggestions? I was considering dying it purple the night before and hoping it looked dark, but there's got to be a better way. Thanks!

So my boyfriend and I have decided to go for Halloween as Peter Pan and Tinker Bell. I am thinking spaghetti strap tank top and those sheer colorful fabrics pulled together into a skirt. Any suggestions? What should I do about shoes, and do you have any other ideas of what I should do for the costume? Thanks for your help!

Help!

I'm having my 22nd birthday party at Storyland in Fresno--usually a place where little kid's parties are held. This place "recreates" fairy tales and nursery rhymes. It's great.

My problem is that my guests will all be older...aged 17 to 72 (yep, Grandma's coming!). I'd like to make party favors for everyone that relate somehow to the childish place we are at, but are still relavent and can be used and appriciated by each guest. And hopefully, they are cheap (or easy to make!).

I dunno if I explained my delimma very well, but I'd love any input!

Thanks!

(And sorry, yes, I am cross-posting)

Question

Ok, here is a question for all you jewelry sellers out there...
This lady wants to buy these necklace/bracelet sets from me. I know how much each individual piece costs to make, but how much do you charge for labor? Someone once told me that for things that are handmade, you tack on 2.5% but I think that is a little high for the sets she wants, because there isn't much to them. So what do you all do?

Also, wanted to share my enthusiasm...I went to a gem and mineral show in town yesterday and was happy to see that the bead lady was back for yet another year. I got some really awesome gemstone beads. Two huge strands of tiger eye and amethyst chips. 8mm picture jasper, blue lace agate, rose quartz, cat's eye, and amethyst round beads. Fun fun. But now I am officially broke. :( So yeah, always check out those random shows, because you never know what you will find.

hey ladies,

i am decorating my bathroom in WWII propaganda style. i have a radiator and a sink that seemed to have been painted on before i got there, for some reason. the radiator is painted matte black and the sink is painted white, even though it seems to appear to be a white porcelain sink underneath? the paint on the sink is already coming up some.

i was wondering what is the best way to go about taking the paint off these two items? i would really like to have the metal look of the radiator and the nice porcelain of the sink to show.

i already painted the walls a bright red, the trim is gloss black and will be painting a mural on the far wall and everything else will be accented in strong steel or shiny metal and glass.

any suggestions?
once done, i'll post many pics.

In the time span of being off the internet (it was my roomate's turn to use it), I made a shirt (the sleeves are two layers..the top layer is a sheer leopard print, and the bottom layer is a sheer black fabric) and a purse..now,I have some of the fabric left over from making a purse. The fabric itself is a velvet like material, and there is a galaxy design on the front.there are stars, the milky way,and what appears to be supernovas. The galaxy design itself is done in silver, and I have about a foot of the fabric, and 2 pieces of foot long strip of it as well.Let me know if you are interested =)

The full pics are under the LJ cut.
All of these are going to run around $20 each, at most, plus postage (maybe a little bit less). The beads are all glass, and the toggles are sterling silver, quite sturdy. The beaded dangles on the toggle add a little decorative flourish and will also help the bracelet stay right-side-up on your wrist. The bracelets are strung on a new bead cord which is virtually unbreakable and must actually be cut like wire (although it is a fiber in string form). They should be very durable. The designs are all limited-edition, based on what materials I have on hand. They should fit the average woman's wrist (I have small wrists, so I make them somewhat large for me) - if you need a more exact measurement on any given bracelet, let me know. Because of the toggle clasp, I don't think any is shorter than 7.5".

If you are interested in buying any, email me at my livejournal address. They would make great gifts and I do accept payment via PayPal. I will also have a little store up at my website sometime in early November.
