I'm looking for a knitting pattern to make arm/wrist warmers/fingerless gloves... I know that I saw the pattern somewhere with a picture of ones made of tropical colors yarn... sigh. Sorry I can't be more specific, but please let me know if this rings any bells....

thanks!
Liz

i did it!

i can't read patterns for the life of me, so i just made these mittens by measuring as i went along. they turned out alright, even though one is bigger and one is crochet a little tighter... i might undo one a little to fix it.

i started this last night and worked on it all day. i used 100% cotton yarn for this and it's nice. less harsh on the fingers when you are working with it.

i'm pretty happy with how they turned out! tomorow i will attempt to make a hat. trial & error style.

Soap!

Ok, so I don't decoupage, and I'm not into "cutesy", but surfing around thathomesite.com came up with THIS!

Using the new can openers you can fill these with goodies or what have you, and glue the top back on. Cheap, I'm assuming too. This is one of my christmas projects I think. My wheels are turnin, powerpuff girl cans for my nieces! Spongebob! Spiderman!

Stop me now.

I went to Wholesale Supplies Plus and priced a few things.
Then I went to Micheal's and priced a few things.

Here is my comparison (since I noticed a lot of you asking questions about where to buy the products at a less expensive cost. I have marked, in purple what the least expensive price is. Hope this helps you all out a bit!

Wholesale Supplies = WS
Michaels= M

10 lbs. glycerin soap~~~ WS= $16.25~ M= $22.99
Assorted "flavors"~~~ M= $2.49~ WS=$3.25-$5.25
Shrink Wrap~~~ M= $9.99 (for 3 yards of 60" wide)~WS= $2.50 (for 25 4x6 bags)
6 assorted glitters~~~M= $4.99~WS= $6.75
Soap dyes~~~M= $2.99 (for 3 colors)~WS=$14.95 (for 4 colors)
Pearl soap dyes~~~M=$2.49~WS= $5.95
Shipping~~~M= free, cus you by it at the store~WS= starts around $6.00

So, while I feel like this, combined with my impatience, makes Micheal's the better choice for me, I figured I would supply this info to you all so you can make better decisions for yourself!

Here is a pic of all I bought today:

A full list of products is:
10 lbs glycerin soap
3 "flavors"
1 soap mold
2 candy molds (for smaller soaps)
1 6-pk of glitter
2 pearly dyes
1 3-pk of dyes
1 roll of shrink wrap
1 christmas candy making kit
3 packages of misc christmas decorations (to put in the soap)

Grand Total= $73.52

Yep, it sounds like a bit of money but, i fyou think about it, all of the molds are re-usable. I will get MULTIPLE uses out of many of these things. Also, ALL of my christmas gifts, for family members, will be hand-made this year.........so, considering I will be spending about $30 more before I am done, taking care of EVERYONE for $110 is NOT BAD. I will be making gift baskets and filling them with soaps, candies, cookies, bread, and whatever else I can think of. I think it is a very practical and thoughtful gift to give. My son LOVES making things so he is the inspiration for all of this this year. He will be in the kitchen right along with me..........and having a BLAST! :-)

ok im making these baskets for my family for christmas.
i bought all sorts of cute things to go in them and decorate them with.

i also bought all this fabric to make liners for the baskets.
i did some templating on my sewing machine this morning and i didnt like the way a square liner looked because the corners stuck out too much. to then i made octagonal shaped liner, and that looked dumb too because the sides sloped in too much and didnt show at all...

so my question is...anyone have any ideas about shapes?
or just ways i can get the liners to be more even and show out of the top of the baskets?

thanks so much!

I haven't seen a post about feather wrapping in here yet, but I wanted to share this with you all. This is my FAVORITE pen in the whole wide world because it writes really nice. I made it from a goose feather that I found in the park. The bottom part, I don't know what you call it but whatever, let's call it the stem...like a flower...lol. Anywho, I stuck a pen refill, one of those really cheap ones, up into the stem of the feather and then wrapped it with some floss that you would use for cross stitching. I originally only had a little bit superglued down, but the floss kept on coming undone, so I superglued the entire thing. Now it is really hard and can take a beating pretty well. There is also a rose quartz stone glued to it as well. The only dumb thing I did was to glue the pen refill into the feather, so now when it runs out, I have to make a new one. Ack! But I have quite a few feathers collected, so I guess it won't be a problem.

Random question: does anyone know where I might be able to find purple tights? I kind of want to try making purple wings, and I also just want purple tights.

My second question: Anyone got a good wingmaking webpage they want to point me towards?
Thanks

I have issues with cutting down trees for Christmas, even if they do come from a tree farm. This is a great option to that tradition, thank you AOL.

This is also another kewl and crafty use for their CDs.
[identity profile] waterlove.livejournal.com
this is probably in some craft books, but today i realized i could crochet some cup coasters or mats to put hot plates on!

i started my hat in the circle, and that's when i decided to make a set of coasters for my boyfriend's mom. they're going to be a sparkly white with some red or green trim.

also, for the big ones for plates i am going to knit little cricles and leaves to sew on as mistletoe or whichever flower it is. (spiked leaves and little red cricles. i don't celebrate christmas, i just love it...)
