soap!

So these are the results of my very first attempt at soap! It was so incredibly easy and these came out smelling really lovely (rapsberry!). To melt down the cubes of soap, the directions said to microwave them. I did this, but would it work better to melt the soap by boiling it down instead?

the best part of making this soap is cleaning up. couldn't be easier!

hey all I'm new to this community =) Just joined tonight actually, and already I've got a question for you guys lol.

I haven't perused all of the past posts, so I'm not sure if there were any on this or not, but here goes anyways...

My mom asked me the other day if there was any kind of special paint you could buy to paint on glass windows. Like, to make them colored, but see thru at the same time. Anyone know of any brand names that I could find at say Michaels or Rag Shop or AC Moore? We thought of see thru contact paper, but decided that'd be too tedious for such a last minute craft, since she wants to get them colored & be done with it. So anyone have any suggestions? And are there any special kinds that aren't permanent in case she decides she wants to change them again?

i've seen posts around with recipes for cocoa/cappucino mixes and stuff, and hopefully someone might be able to help me.

does anyone know any recipes for lentil soup?

is there anything you should not use to wrap around melt & pour soap, especially if you're mailing it? i am paranoid, and new to soap.

hi there..

i've been thinking this for a while but haven't had time to post it [yeah finals! ugh..]

anyways...i know there are a few moderators for this community [old and new] very nice gals..

but i was thinking, since there are MANY repeat posts about TONS of different topics: marble magnets, diy xmas presents, kitty hats, soap making, altoid tins, etc...that maybe we should have all of these posts grouped in the memories section?

i'm totally not being a jerk, i love seeing everyone's questions. and i love this community so much i wanna be involved with it [because i am a HUGE dork]

and i was just thinking of it because in many of the LJ communities i belong to the moderators [and helpers] put repeat posts in the memories section for easy access for newbies and repeat question askers...

so i guess this post is me volunteering my services to help put together the memories page if the moderators want this and/or everyone thinks it's a good idea?

someone let me know..?
i'm in need of a geeky web project over xmas break :)
[identity profile] after-hours.livejournal.com

hrmm...joining the bandwagon and making magnets as little christmas treats for people, one problem... i'm having trouble finding pictures for them!!
I'v been looking on the internet for some but i can't find any good sites for clipart, any suggestions?? anyone?

Thank you!

I'm only charging $3, e-mail me if you want one and I'll show you the different types of fabric you can choose from and all that nitty gritty. I also make purses. E-mail me for more info! <3<3

I have a question for you all again!

I was screwing around with a CD that hadn't burned right last night and tried to carve into it with some scissors. Well, all the holographic paint stuff started to chip off into little flecks. My crafty side went...woo hoo, pretty sparkles! This afternoon I took a chunk of polymer clay and rolled it around in a bunch of the sparkles to see how it would look. It is awesome. Black with sparkles...looks like the sky at night.

Anywho...this is my question. When I go to put the bead in the oven, will the paint stink up the house or burn and make a mess? There isn't much of it there, so I don't think it would be a problem if it smelled funny. I just am afraid of starting a fire or burning my bead.

Thanks!

This is what I worked on making today. It is the second one I made. I made one about two years ago, but the top of it is starting to fray a little bit, so I made another one. I am thinking about selling them for maybe fifteen bucks each.

I am only trying to educate.

When folks have a simple, easy questions (like recipes for hot chocolate mix or lentil soup or lip balm, etc), the quickest, easiest way to find an answer for everyone concerned is to go to http://www.google.com and enter the keywords for your desired item into the search box. For example, entering "hot chocolate recipe" got me 380,000 hits. If what you seek is not on one of the first two or three pages of hits, you should probably try other words.

I think that if folks just tried this method, it would be quicker all the way around -- questioners would not have to wait to have their questions answered, and answerers will not have to dig through their links to find the answers. And the rest of us will not have to read post after post asking the same thing.

I hope that between this amd the effort to add informative posts into the memories, things will get a little more streamlines and the creative minds around here can rejoice in their resourcefulness at find their own answers to commonly asked questions.

Does your dog shed a lot? -- "Turning your pet's hair into something beautiful is surprisingly easy. First, you turn the hair into yarn through the age-old process of hand spinning. Hand spinning is fun, and you can learn to do it yourself."

:)

Unfortunately, my dog's hair, though dense and sheddy, is too short to spin.

I am thinking about making some soldered glass charms for jewelry and for ornaments, but I don't know exactly what materials I need to make these. Other than the glass, metal tape, a soldering iron, and, of course, whatever I want to put inside, do I need anything else? I saw somewhere that someone who makes these used some kind of grinding and buffing machine. Is this necessary? I want them to look nice, but I don't want to go to all the expense if it's not necessary. I may consider buying equipment like that later, though. If I like how these turn out, I think I might try selling them. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I got off my lazy arse and made a crochet kitty hat yesterday. Woo, I love it to bits and pieces. It's black, but I'm hoping to make some more in a beige chenille or some sort like that. I don't know if I'd sell them, they're so damned cute! Maybe just gi ve them as gifts... and such. But on with the pictures!

okay, I admit. I'm so bad at crocheting lmao! I wanted to make myself a hat, but I didn't know what i was doing! haha
But anyways, back on=subject. I don't know how to make a hat, and I would totally love it, but I don't know how to read the directions or anything, so I just tried it by myself to see what I could come up with. Well needless to say, It just started looking like a 2 inch tube! haha it just wasn't working, so I just stopped it, and now I'm just using it as ear=warmers! =)
its actually pretty cute!
but I would still love to do the hat, would anyone know a website or something to give me STEP BY STEP directions cause I'm so lost! =)
thank you soooo much!

I decorated a pair of simple crystal candlesticks with silver and blue beads, for my mom. They match the tassle that I made for her earlier. They turned out really pretty, I think; I should make another set for myself. Shiny!
