sculpy w/ mosaic?
Feb. 9th, 2003 01:49 amhas anyone ever tried baking sculpy with mosaic pieces on it? would the mosaic get hotter than the sculpy and sink down/make a hole? would it be better to make imprints of each mosaic piece on the sculpy, and glue them on afterwards?
or would you suggest something else?
any ideas would be gr8 guys, thanks!

Feb. 9th, 2003 01:52 amOk so - I'm trying to learn how to knit and I have this book "Knitting Pretty" but its description of how to cast on makes NO sense to me whatsoever. Can anyone offer me better instructions or point me to a good website?
bottle caps
Feb. 9th, 2003 10:08 ami posted awhile back asking what to do with my multitude of jones soda bottles, and received lots of good ideas. i decided on cutting of the picture part of the labels with an exact-o knife, keeping the bottle caps, and then taking back all the bottles so i can have some extra cash. now i'm left with nearly 80 jones soda bottle caps and i have nothing to do with them! any suggestions? i kept them because of the cool fortunes underneath.

thank god for spray paint and ugly tins
Feb. 9th, 2003 12:20 pmhello beautifuls :) (new)
i'm positively in love with this community and with craftiness. i'm anxiety-prone and this stuff calms me like none other.
yesterday i bought some nifty silver-sparkly spray paint and spent the night spraying everything in sight, coffee cans, altoid tins, etc. etc.
for my mom's bday i took a round candy tin (ugly as sin), sprayed it, and put a little round mirror on the lid. i took a foam heart and put it on the inside of the lid and now i'm trying to decide what to put inside it. my mom doesn't do candles; she's a big craft girl herself, if that helps. do suggest something, her bday is monday and i'm stuck ;x
i also sprayed an altoid tin for boyfriend/valentine's day. i'm leaving the outside inconspicuously plain silver and putting pictures of us on the inside. but once again, what to fill it with? he doesn't do candles either...jeesh. he's quite the emo kid though, and if i could afford pins of bands i'd buy him a ton (which would require a trip ito hot topic, blargh)
helpies please ;)

Feb. 9th, 2003 01:01 pmHi. I don't remember if I've ever posted in this community before, but if I have, I know it hasn't been very frequently. I'm more of a lurker, unfortunately. But anyway..onto business.
First of all, I've got two Martha Stewart magazines if anyone wants them. The first is a special issue - Martha Stewart Kids Holiday 2002. The second is I believe the newest issue of Martha Stewart Living February 2003 (although the March issue might have already hit newstands by now, I'm not sure). If anyone wants the two of these, you can have them if you send me some stamps for them. I will calculate postage when we finalize the "trade." First come, first serve basis.
Secondly, I just got a sewing machine for Christmas (I know, how many times have we heard this already? ;D ), & I wanted to share one of the first projects I finished. I've never used a sewing machine before so I guess it makes sense that this is one of those pillowcase skirts. It was a kingsized one, so I ended up cutting about a foot off the top of it & used some of that extra material to make the drawstring (which I think needs to be redone, but anyway).
The pictures are pretty bad -- from my crappy little webcam that loves to distort colors. The skirt is actually white. Anyway, here's the link: The "Mr." Skirt. I'd love to hear comments. xo

Feb. 9th, 2003 01:12 pmso I'm feeling a bit crafty, and I finally have some money.
I actually want to make a clock, so, whose got suggestions?
I remember someone posting a sushi clock a while ago, and it was way adorable, my minds drawing a blank, but I want something similar to that.
Thanx for those who post.

travelling
Feb. 9th, 2003 02:06 pmHowdy, I'm planning to do a bit of travelling soon. My boyf and I are going to Amsterdam for Spring Break. I was thinking of making some passport bags for under our clothes. I've found ones you can buy made from muslin, but im a little scared that it will break. Any suggestions?
Also, do any of you have a sarong? I'm trying to figure out what the best fabric would be. Is it just a great big rectangle, and what kind of edging does it have? I just think having an all purpose sheet dress/skirt/blanket/robe would be neat.
okay, last one. I have a -crapload- of postcards I've collected. So far, I've just stuck them on my wall with tape. the little wall collage i've created is cute, but is there any better permanent display piece I could make with them?
-randomness- where can i get a big map of the world?
thanks!

a question
Feb. 9th, 2003 02:27 pmI just got some atrocious furniture....big heavy dark oak affairs... a queen bed, a dresser, etc.
i want to do a decoupage project on it, the surface of the wood is varnished so it's slick and shiny, can anyone give me any suggestions? i've seen it done with just a mixture of elmers white glue and newsprint...i was thinking about using pictures of flowers torn out of magazines....
(by the way, if anyone has a big stack of magazines that they really want to get rid of i will trade a hand knit scarf.)
Any help you ladies can offer me will be greatly appreciated. i've got to do something with this shit because it's just too austere.
Thanks!!!

Any ideas of what I could do with a bunch of empty peanut butter jars?
I had an idea the other night someone may like...
If you de-stitched a pillow case you could make a pretty easy tube top.
If you like tube tops...;)

Feb. 9th, 2003 03:21 pmOkay - I hope this post passes the muster of the new and improved community FAQ. This is not my auction! I was just looking all over the net for bulk beeswax and this is an amazing deal because the shipping is $6 regardless of how many pounds you buy. Auction ends tomorrow - it's dutch. I bought 5 pounds for $15!!
I'm just going to make old-fashioned dipped candles using a coffee can in a double boiler and a piece of wick tied to a stick, but here are some interesting candle projects. Parafin is fine, but I love the smell of burning beeswax candles.

I thrifted this ace Dodgers shirt today. I've wanted one for the longest, but I have a problem. The shirt is an adult large and I want it to be a child's small/medium. I want to be able to wear it to work so it has to have sleeves. Can anyone tell me how to re-fit it so that it's smaller but still has sleeves?

Feb. 9th, 2003 10:11 pmThis is a bit of a tricky one...
I have a friend, who is a boy, and who just broke up with his girlfriend right before Valentine's day. Anyway, he and I are going out on a platonic date on Friday. And I'd like to give him a little Valentine's/cheer up present. But I don't want it to be too big (so he feels bad he didn't get me something) and I don't want it to be too elaborate (so he gets the wrong idea).
Any thoughts?
