Hello, I am teh newbie. This community is absolute gold, I have been spamming all my friends with links to your projects, saying things like UMG COOLEST THING EVER. They are all fed up with me. So yes, I had to join, and I got all inspired me to finish the wallet that I started ages ago.

Wallet! )

I've been obsessed with earrings lately, also.

Honestly, anything can be made into a funky earring )

You all rock my socks. That is all.

My mom is, perhaps, the ultimate craft girl.
I wish I could take pictures of all of the things that she's done over the years. She used to design logos for various companies, paint sets for plays, sew costumes, even paint her own stuff on the side. She'd take other people's trash, literally, even stopping her car to pick up a promising chair from somebody's garbage pile. She even used to make these amazing pen and ink christmas cards, but unfortunately, I have no pictures of these.
But, I do have these )
Unfortunately, I don't think any of those truly do her justice.

Anyone know where I can purchase resin in the UK? Pref. onthe internet. Sorry to ask, but I live in such a crafty limited town :(

The only thing I could find is this craft set on Specialistcrafts.co.uk. I don't if it would be good or not :/

I don't know if you know this yet, but Joann's is having a big 3day sale from august 1-3. simplicity patterns are 1.99 each, and a bunch of fabrics are 50% off and i even saw that tulle and that webbing stuff they sell next to it is 2 yds. for a dollar.
And I just bought tulle last week!

Howdy goils!

I'm reconstructing my craft page and would like some opinions.
Should I:
a) organize the photos by category
b) organize them by date (this is what I currently have)
c) list them by name with a brief description

Also, for those of you with dial-up connections, thumbnails, text links or the whole enchilada (like my current page appears)?

Thanks for your input! I've finally made enough stuff I need to do something other than have a page full of pics. And I just keep making stuff!

Oh here's the link to my current page: http://www.samiamru.com/crafts/samcraftsv2.htm I just listed it recently.

i got kinda bored the other day so i made these:

then, i had a second iron on of the band logo, so i made a patch!

hey everyone. :o)

i am going to try to make a simple quilt for my friend's birthday, and i was wondering if anyone knew of any places to get cheap(er) silky type fabrics. not silk necessarily, but smooth fabrics, shiney-like. does that make sense? i might try some thrift stores, but i dont know if i'll be able to find enough.

also, is there a trick for sewing the backs on? making the seams match or anything? my cloth always seems to slide out of place when i sew the backs on.

i've looked for quilting books (cause i dont have time for classes) but i can never really seem to find one that is simple enough and on my level. any suggestions there?

thanks guys. you rock. :o)

When I start sewing a little more (when I get the right bobbin case for my vintage singer) I plan on making myself one of these fitting assistants.

Hi everyone, this is my first post here =) I've got a question. I wanted to make a dress form, (a mannequin maybe? just that torso part though.) that has the same shape as my body so I could make clothes according to it. The thing is, I can't buy one because of lack of money. Do you guys know any inexpensive ways I could make/get one that is my body shape? Thanks a lot! You guys are all very helpful, and I love all the crafty things on here =)

Once upon a time, I was shopping during my trip to Italy. In a lovely high-end store called Sisley, there was a sweater. This sweater was army green vertical ribbed, and it was wonderfully comfy. To make the sweater even more wonderful, it had black snap tape* from one wrist to the other, which meant that it could be opened all along the top seam of the sweater to achieve a variety of collar and sleeve styles.
The problem with this wonderful sweater, is that I looked at the price tag. 90 Euros, it said. (equivalent at the time, to about 100USD) So, I made it my personal quest to get my own sweater of this variety, for less than $100.
I just finished it!! (sadly, I am digicam-less, and cannot even find you all a picture of the original sweater for you to see. but this is a triumph of mine, and I had to tell you all about it, I am so excited)

HOWTOIt has only taken me 2 months of work. But, let me explain what I had to do. The sweater that I found to replicate the original was on the sale rack at Boscovs... for $3.00. Perfect. Snap tape is $4.99 a pack, and I needed 4 packs. therefore, total cost: $22.96. The real cost was in labor time. I cut the seams for the snap tape to go on, and hand sewed them to prevent stretching. Then I hand sewed the snap-tape on, following the ribs of the sweater and doing a lot of measuring to make sure the front and back matched up. Finally, I machine sewed the seams over to make sure they didn't try to fall apart.
It wasn't exactly easy. Rib stretch knit is one of the hardest things I've ever tried to sew. But it's finished! and it's lovely!

*snap tape can be purchased at Joann fabric stores. It looks like seam binding, with snaps every 2 inches.

i was just wondering if anybody had some suggestions on making a bag like the one in the following cut. i get basically everything except for what kind of fabric it's made out of and how to get the plushy kind of look from it. also -- would it be very hard to make a similar vest? thanks in advance for your help, this community always spurs a creative spirit in me. here's the bag. )

ok, so someone recently posted on [livejournal.com profile] fruits and had a picture of this pleated jean skirt their mom made for them out of a pair of old jeans. then today as i was walking by hollister in the mall i saw the exact same kind of skirt. so i'm wondering, has anyone else ever made one and can they give me directions? i've never pleated anything in my life but i think that i could do it, and i'd really like to make one of these skirts. old jeans are so easy to come by and i'd love to have one of these adorable skirts.
thank!

I saw this contraption today..
it was two loops of suede cordage with beads in between, ending in two tails of this cord with dangles on the end... apparently you wrap one loop around the hair? or two? and then slide the beads up to tighten it..
I'd LOVE to make some of these with my own beads and without using animal skin..
any tips/links on how to make these things??

I was recently invited to a party celebrating a friend finishing her art grant proposal but I couldn't attend so I just made her this "Good Luck" Mini-Package.

http://www.shutterfly.com/osi.jsp?i=67b0de21b3248932e435

I got the groovy purple envelope with a stack of assorted ones at a local Hallmark store that was trying to get rid of a few years ago--it doesn't hurt to ask, they really come in handy.

Contents of Mini-Package:

-Homemade felt postcard.
-Baggy of "lucky" beetles from the party store.

P.S. I'm obsessed with loopy satin ribbon--I buy a spool or two every time I go to the craft store and I ALWAYS use it up.

Craft on, girlies!
