craftivism!

awhile ago, i asked people on this community if they had any links to places that combined craft and activism because i was starting a little website called craftivism.com. i'm a crafter and an activist, and want to further explore the connection between the two.

well, it's here, but in blog format for the moment. i've been trying to figure out what direction i want to head in. i'm looking for some craft links, activism links, photos of stuff you've done or what gives you inspiration and most importantly, input.

if you have the chance, please take a look. feel free to email me at betsy@craftivism.com.

thank you.

I wanted to design a CD booklet for my boyfriend. I can't seem to get the size right :( Does anyone know what the size of the book insert is for a CD? Any help would really be helpful.

Also, good songs. It doesn't have to be love songs. He likes all types of music.

you guys are always helpful, thanks!

this is semi-on topic.

umm
i'm doing a school project where i'm gonna put shallow boxes out on some land we own.
and fill them with wet sand..

put some kind of bait in there to attract animals.

and hopefully they'll leave foot prints, so i can have an idea of what kind of animals are out at my woods.

does anyone have any idea of a plaster kind of recipe thing where i can cast molds out of the sand so i can compare the foot print to a picture of a foot print?

..if you know what i mean?

or is there a community i can be directed to that would know?

thanks.

i can't seem to find dollhouse beach chairs, umbrellas, balls, etc. can anybody help? if you don't know of a site how about tips on making my own?

hey everyone, i am way interested in making record bowls out of some of my less exciting vinyls (read: donovan). i found some do it yourself pages that all had about the same instructions, which involved heating the bowl in the oven and sort of crimping the edges. what i want is something more like this, with the smooth curve. does anyone have any suggestions?

ok now everyone is like asking about sewing machines. well at Walgreen's (if u have one) there are handheld ones. they cost around $13 and they're work very well and the directions are EASY to understand. it's called the handy stitch. here's the link to it.

please get one if you want it! it's fun and easy and really convienient! (or however u spell that lol)

Does anyone know anything about making a 1950s poodle skirt? Do you just cust out a giant circle or something? I looked in the FAQ, but I found nothing on skirts and not what I needed in the vintage pattern section :/

Hello mis amigas de craft! Some time ago, I posted this about what I can do with glass v8 bottles. For Update sake, I thought I would let you guys know that I decided to make some of them into these )

BUT NOW I HAVE A QUESTION: I just antiqued some paper from an Arabic story book. Any ideas on what I can do with this cool paper now???

hey i'm grace :)
i've got nothing to do this summer until i go to uni so i've started being crafty. i wanted to try something easy first so i found instructions for what to do with glass pebbles. i don't know whether to turn them into pushpins or magnets yet, but they look pretty cool just as ornaments - i've stuck pictures i cut out of magazines on the back of them.

i'm now trying to make a bag but it looks like it's going to be far too small as i had to keep cutting more and more off each side to even it up..oops

Hey!

Hi I am new to this community and I just want to say how awesome it is! From what I've seen, you all are just amazingly talented!

I have been wanting to get involved in arts and crafts for a while, especially fashion/bags and room decorations. I was wondering if anyone could give me some cheap projects to do to funk up my room and most of all, inform me on a way to make my make-up area/desk more organised since everything is just in a huge pile. Thanks!

I just discovered this today because I need to mark rows when I am knitting a sweater sleeve. My boyfriend's dad likes to keep the little plastic squares that cinch bread bags closed. I grabbed a bunch of them and now when I'm done with a section (like "increase at each end of every 4th row for a total of 13 times") I put a bread bag cincher on the last stitch!

so i'm making a scrapbook type thing for my boyfriend since he's leaving for college.

i have writings and such of what i thought/wrote about him in it. i also have like important days on different pages [[first date, first kiss, etc]]

each page has something different but i'm running out of ideas and i want to fill up at least a few more pages before he leaves [[the 11th]].

one idea i have is those "love is..." clippings from the newspaper.

any other ideas on things i could put in there?

Well it's about time I post something but I wanted to show you guys what I did YEARS ago when I was 10 years old. It was 3 o'clock in the morning, I was bored and I had a huge square piece of bulletin board (corkboard?). Anyway my mother was going to just fix the edges and put it up on my wall but I had other plans. Sorry for the crappy picture...

In my unemployed boredom, I began to make bead people today. These are the results:

I'm not sure if I'm happy with how the skirts attach to the bodies. They look loose, even though they are actually quite securely attached. Ah well.

My boyfriend and I are moving into our first apartment on Monday. My older sister snagged a living room set from a friend of hers at work for us, which was incredibly sweet. We love the couches, didn't need the lamps and were lukewarm toward the tables. So I decided they needed a makeover. (My boyfriend trusts me with this stuff, which is nice, so he didn't care what I did to the tables as long as I used the sofa table that was going to become my writing desk as a prototype. Good thing I did, too!)

Hey, okay, I realize that this is sort of a stupid one and all but I will ask anyway.

I like book hollowing. I think it's cool. Even if it is really frustrating. And I was wondering if there was a community or something for it. Because there seems to be a community for everything else.

I just finished up my first one. I took this novel that I got out of a "free books" box at some store, cut it and pasted all of these ads from a "Woman's Day" magazine that was from the 1940's on it. (We have a lot of antique shops here. I think I love them.) I'd post a picture but it's still drying (I felt like dunking it in Modgepodge).
