2 statements and 2 questions:

1: my friend passed along a bag of about 50+ plastic army men.

any ideas what to do with them?? (not snow globes or glueing them to boxes or things)

2: i am going to make my boyfriend a little plush koala. i want to make the arms close (like the ones you got at book fairs in elementary school), i was thinking about using a clothes pin (it'll be small enough). or my friend suggested magnets in the arms.

any other ideas?

thanks!

I checked the FAQ to try to answer this question, but I didn't really find anything.
Alright so my boyfriend and I decided to start a little business, screenprinting t-shirts for local bands. I've screen printed before, and he knows lotsa bands, so we figured this would work out. Anywho, we're working on t-shirts for his band first. I tried doing the photo emulsion method. I happen to have a darkroom in my house and so I just used that, and my photo enlarger to burn the screen. I burned it for the amount of time the instructions told me, but alas it did't work. For those of you who have done this, do you use a photo enlarger or a light with high wattage? I ended up just tracing the band logo on the screen and using screen filler to block off the stuff I didn't want, and it's worked great, but it was really time consuming. Now I have another question, what is the best way to get screen filler off a silkscreen? (I'm using that red goopy poopy Speedball stuff). It said to use Mr. Clean on the bottle (of screen filler), but it did't work, and I don't want to scrub at it too hard because I'll end up ripping the screen or something. I was thinking maybe bleach... but maybe that won't be save to use on silk. BAH! I'm frustrated. Someone help me.

hello all.

i'm buried by too much stuff in my life, and it's getting to be depressing. my creative impulses are being crushed by clutter.

i need help and motivation to get rid of all of this junk so i can start making cool stuff again.

actually, i need someone to come over and boss me around until i get it done, but that's not likely to happen.

any ideas?

I love taking pictures, but I hate regular picture frames. They're so clunky and uncreative. So, I was wondering, does anyone have any unique/different ideas for displaying photos? I love the ideas here.

I have a ton of unusable CDRs from when I was burning CDs and the computer froze. (Ironically, as I typed this, the computer froze and I lost another one.) I feel bad just throwing these out, so is there anything I can make with them?
[identity profile] bittenbefore.livejournal.com
Hi all!
Was wondering if any of you here can offer me a solution towards my growing scrap fabric stash...
I sew a fair bit and as some of you may have experienced, there's always a lot of wastage in cloth [esp if matching diagonals etc...i love striped fabric]...
I havent had the heart to throw em out cos i am such a hoarder. The fabric ranges from woven, stretch, fleece etc etc and range from anywhere between size of my palm to around 1/4 yard square. [i used to have smaller pieces but i had to stop somewhere so anything smaller than my palm gets ....sob...thrown out]..but the orginally small plastic bag has now progressed to a industrial sized bin bag...[my boyfriend uses it as a bean bag to sit on and chat with me sometimes when i sew] I have tried: Quilt making [without too much success..cos i do enjoy nice quilt fabrics] , Doll making [still working on this one] , Heat bags , small bags[purses, totes, handbags, pouches, coin purse etc] and hats [well i havent started but i've kept the fleece in a seperate bag for making into hats for cancer patients etc]

...so i was wondering..wat else can i do with it??

Oh and if u live in australia and think u can find a use for these scraps, let me know. Send me a self addressed prepaid [big] postal bag and i will send u a bagful of stuff. Or if u live in melb australia, u can come pick it up urself from my house. [By the way, Anyone here from melb wanna form a stitch and bitch??]

Is polymer clay the same thing as that Fimo stuff I've seen at AC Moore?

EDIT: And if I wanted to use this stuff to make canes and decorate candle holders with them, is it okay to bake that in the oven? The candle holders, I mean? Am I supposed to use a special kind, or could I use the plain glass ones they have at the store?
[identity profile] skwairpeg.livejournal.com
I know there are paints for doing faux stained glass, but I am wondering if I HAVE to use that kind of paint if I want to decorate a glass bowl or something like that. Can I just use my acrylics? Is there something I should to do protect the paint once I'm done? The bowl would hold potpourri or candles, and not be used for food, so I suppose I could spray a clear coat of acrylic on it. Any other suggestions?

Hi! My boyfriend's birthday is coming up and he's turning thirteen. We've been going out for about 5 months. I have no clue what to get him, or make him. For my birthday, he got me a necklace and a really cute card.

He's interested in Broadway, singing, acting, and dancing. Ummm...he likes Clay Aiken from American Idol and... well, he doesn't really like to read... so yah.

If you girls (or guys) could help me think of something, it would be great!
Thanks!

I went to JoAnn the other day and they were having a sale. I thouhgt "what could I possibly get at a craft store for only $6?"
Welle I found these ). They were just 13 random patches trhown in a little bag for 81 cents. I love the Care Bear ones and the "Have a nice nite".

I also had a question, for those of you that have their own sites and sell stuff you made on them...what did you do to do that? just think up your own brand name and make stuff or...'cause i have a super idea and wanted to start making things.

p.s. thanks to all of you who answered my scarf question!

Sharpies

Jul. 30th, 2003 06:05 pm
[identity profile] haribobear759.livejournal.com
I just got some totally cool metallic sharpies...I was just looking at them and it says not for use on cloth or something like that...

Does that mean that I can't write on fabric or should I do it anyway?

Also, if I can write on clothes, when I wash and dry the clothing will it fade or something?

In reference to this post: Transfer thingie

I've been trying to transfer images using laminate sheets...and I've followed the directions to the T. I've even googled for instructions and followed those -- all to no avail.

I've tried contact paper, I've tried laminate sheets from Michaels...the damned image won't stick to the paper.I'm using shiny glossy images from magazines, many different kinds of magazines but nothing works. After I soak the image and go to peel it off, the entire paper just peels up and no image is transferred to the laminate.

I love this effect so much and I just want it to work! help!

I grew some beautiful Indian Corn, a multi-colored variety called "Painted Mountain." It's now ripe and looking very vibrant and healthy. My plan is to dry the stalks and ears, tie them together and then use them as a decoration on my front porch for Hallowe'en and Thanksgiving. But it just occurred to me that I have no idea how to do that.

Do I pull out the stalks now? Or do I let them dry in place? Is there a different process for drying the ears of corn as opposed to the plant itself? How do I store it so it still looks good in 3 months?

If any of you craft-savvy folks know the answers to these questions, I would really appreciate love to hear from you.

I seriously do. I bought a pair at a thrift store (for $2, WOW) last week with the intention of cutting it apart and making a skirt out of the top half and using the bottom half for scraps for various projects I'm planning. But once I got them home and realized how incredibly good they fit I didn't have the heart to cut them up. Oy, I'm like that with *all* my pairs of jeans. The nice ones are too good to cut apart, and the ugly ones are so ugly that no matter what I did to them they'd be beyond fixing and still look ugly so I don't even bother to attempt.

Anyone else have this problem? I seriously hope I'm not the only one. ^^

ALSO, I made my first record bowl today and it was awesome. If I had known just how easy it was I would have done this sooner. I'm going to make a few more and use them to hold my stuff at my dorm this fall!
