I'm new to this community. It seems pretty neat. I have a question for everyone.

I've been making magazine beads for a bracelet. I tried to paint them with clear nail polish to make them hard and durable and even with three coats they're incredibly flimsy and fall apart after a day. Is there anything I can coat them in to make them harder? Like a spray or anything of the kind? I have no clue about arts and crafts products really so I don't even know if such a thing exists :/

i'm moving into a new apartment, and i'm not allowed to paint my room... so i've been trying to think of some different alternatives.
i've heard of a company called aquaflow that makes temporary paint, but i'm not sure if that's able to last for a couple of years. anyone know of some brands that works? is there a product that i can use as a "base" and paint on top of that and be able to remove it?

if not, can you guys think of another alternative, such as taping construction paper over the walls... only something more effective?

this turned out really bad at first, but i managed to salvage it. i need to make a few minor adjustments, but i'm pretty happy with the way it turned out!

i've made most of the stuff for my costumes before...so i'll be able to this time to...but i need some ideas...

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas on how to paint a mushroom? My uncle has been making me photography props. He made a mushroom out of foam (inside) and plaster (outside). It is about a foot and a half high. What should I use to paint on it and how can I get the spots on without it looking like it is painted on? And what color would a mushroom be for taking pictures? Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks!

I'm new to the community and last summer I made these purses. They are very well sewn together, and have held up to 10 lbs of stuff inside with out fraying or falling apart. Hope you like...

I would like to make something of my own design but I do not know what to use to make this hoop

[identity profile] leahnicole.livejournal.com
this is probably one of my first posts in here. well, i've posted before, but never posted any pictures of anything i made. i am a beginner with this whole sewing thing. i prefer designing and whatnot, but when it comes to sewing, i'm not all that great. i've made a skirt before (which I never wore, it was mainly just a practice project and a way to get the feel of the sewing machine and learn how to use a pattern). I've also made pillows. plain, simple pillows. yup, i'm pretty new to this.
my boyfriend bought me an old singer sewing machine (like from the 60's or 70's, not sure) and i had trouble with it all the time. until he figured it out and made it work for me!
I have never made a bag, of course, but this community has inspired me to try it. i think it is pretty easy to do. the bag i made was mainly for practice. although it doesn't look good, i would like to post the picture anyhow.
i made this bag out of an old le tigre polo shirt. the inside is lined from an old t-shirt as well. the bag itself is pretty nice, for me, i think, but the strap is where it gets kind of hairy. oh well. here is the picture anyhow. let me know what you think of it. it's a pretty simple bag, but i thought it was pretty cool. i'll probably never use this thing and i can't really sell it since it's very poor. oh well! it was fun making it though. i think now i will go make something else :)

Couldn't find this in the FAQ...

I got a soldering kit for my birthday. It has other cool tips for burning stuff into wood, and leather... My question is, would this work on sculpey? Has anyone tried it on sculpey? Help! I don't want to try it if it has a really bad smell, so I was hoping someone else has done it before.

Thanks!

Does anyone have (or know where to find) instructions to make bracelets like the following photos:

Cut for size )
[identity profile] mockingbirdgirl.livejournal.com
Orange Chuck Taylor low-tops (normal-looking).
I love them, but I don't wear much orange.

Would they look better covered in:
a) white sequins w/ black accent sequins
b) abstract beaded designs
c) abstract embroidery designs

which option do you think would hold up the best to torturous wear&tear?

suggestions? ideas?

ok i seriously need your help!

i'm moving and i'm putting all of my belongings into 1 of 2 piles: the "keep it" or "chuck it" pile.

this system has been working out well so far EXCEPT i have a tiny bamboo pot thingy and the bitty rocks that came in it. the bamboo died and is gone but i CANNOT figure out what to do with this cute little thing! and i'll be damned if i throw it away first without asking you guys.

here's a picture of it - imagine it without the bamboo [this was taken awhile ago]

i can't do more bamboo because, well, i KILLED the last one...if ANYONE has any suggestions about what could spare this little guy from the trash, i would be in your debt.

Koi Pond

[identity profile] toothsome.livejournal.com
My dad is planning on digging a koi pond in the back yard. I've seen this done a lot of times on various design shows, but when it comes to doing this now, I can't really remember what to do. Anyone have any tips, websites, or book recommendations?

I want to make a leather cuff bracelet that either snaps or ties like the one I'm going to post a picture of below this. Also, I'd like to burn and paint it. Has anyone ever done this before? Are there any places I could find directions. This is [sort of] what I'm looking to do, minus the beadwork... they sell them at places like American Eagle, but I've never quite found one that I liked enough to buy for a bazillion dollars.
