Hair clips

Aug. 20th, 2003 01:11 am

I scrounged around for some of those clips that sorta snap inside out, then clip back together today, after making several dozen marble magnets (without the magnet bit)

I think they turned out rather cutely. I also got fiesty and made one with an orange fake flower. I got the basic gyst of how to do that from someone's tutorial and I thank them, but cannot give credit, because I forgot where it was (Please post the link if you know it, or it was yours!)

Just a clip... )

So... how do you girls decorate clips like this. It seems I'll be forever known to craftgrrl as hair thing girl. Lol. Know of any tutorials? Other ideas?

You find gems in the strangest place. Now, normally I wouldn't go to a site that was geared for Mormon women. (atheistic granddaughter of an excommunicated RLDSer foe Heaven's sake!) But looking for quiet books I found this really neat family tree idea:

http://www.mormonchic.com/crafty/family-tree-pictorial.asp

So pretty and a neat way to display those tiny old photographs. It wouldn't even have to be a family tree of course!

The crafts on the crafty Chic part of the site are mostly pretty good and Martha-y (even a few taken directly from Martha) and not your typical "kalico kuntry krafts."

Hi, I'm new, and I was hoping for some input... My little sister is addicted to Mini Doritos, which come in the Go Snacks containers, that look like canisters )

I was thinking I would decorate them and use them to hold incense, pencils, etc, but I was wondering if anyone else had ideas. They're too cool to throw away so have a bunch of them.

I hope it's okay to post about other communities here--if not, I apologize.

I've just started a community for people who make or would like to make rag rugs out of old clothes, yarn, or leftover fabric from other projects. All kinds of rugs: knit, crochet, braided, hooked, latch hooked, proddy, woven, whatever.

Okay, so my future brother-in-law is having a bday party for his daughter (Yay! I get to be an aunt!) on Sunday. She's turning 3 I think, maybe 4 but I'm almost positive its 3. I don't have a whole lot of money with paying for wedding stuff and such, but I want to be a cool aunt, or at least future aunt, and get her something for her bday. I'm afraid if I don't then my fiance's family will think that I'm rude or something and not wanting to act like part of the family.

What can I do for a 3 year old? She's not very girly that I know of, but she's the sweetest, most adorable thing ever! I don't want to do anything too elaborate because that means I have to do something similar for the other kids, and I don't have a whole lot of time, so I'd like it to be something simple.... any ideas?

I was making some lollipops from the usual plastic molds that you buy at a craft store, and I wanted to make soap too. However, the instructions said they weren't intended for making soap. I'm not planning on actually MAKING the soap from scratch but melting down left over bits. I thought maybe the lye or something was the problem, so is it possible to melt down regular soaps into plastic molds? (This paragraph sounds really confusing and badly written looking back at it, so excuse me.)

Also, I have four or five photbooth strips. They're cute pictures but I don't know how I should display them. Any ideas?

I want to make my guest book for our upcoming wedding and I just want a simple book with soft leather (doesn't need to be real, I'd even prefer fake if it is soft) book. I just want to put holes in it and put leather cording through to hold it together and then a tie to go around the book. However, I can't find any pieces large enough. At the craft shops, I can only find small pieces. Does anyone know of a good online source for pieces of leather? It needs to be all one piece to go around the paper, which I want maybe I little smaller than regular notebook paper...Maybe 6" by 10" or something.

Thanks!

Hi everyone, forgive my lack of posts to this community (not that you noticed/care but nevermind.) i have been watching all the posts though!

i just wanted to post this pic of my checkered trousers that i finished last night. They were my first trouser creation, so obviously they're not perfect but okay for my standard :D

my mum is one of those sewing geniuses, so she knows how to make practically anything from memory/by observing an item of clothing. so she basically fed me all the instructions and let me get on with it etc. &i asked her whenever i got stuck with something. i wish i was as clever as my mum ♥.

i messed up the sewing so many times, so i often had to take all the stitching out and start again. Very frustrating but well worth it!#

i have a load of that purple plaid fabric left as well, what should i use it for? i was thinking maybe i'll try to make a skirt (to add to my evergrowing collection of checkered pleated miniskirts!!) or something, maybe a vest top. Xxx

i just wanted to give a big THANK YOU to the girls that discussed the homemade maxi pads a while back (thread here). i did lots of reading about the issues, and though months ago i would have been reluctant to try them, i sewed up a set this week and tried them and LOVED them!! i even ordered myself a "keeper" yesterday, and i'm so excited about getting into this movement, for myself and the environment. i'm encouraging my girlfriends to try making their own pads, since designing my own was so much fun. once i get my scanner reset up (i moved in june and haven't bothered to unpack a lot of stuff!), i'll share pics.

so THANK YOU girls - you've changed my life.

Help!

shelves

[identity profile] kachina.livejournal.com
i love plants and have many of them in my bedroom. unfortunately, my window-sill is ridiculously small and does not provide enough room for some of my plants. what i'd like to do is install a small shelf (large enough for one or two plants) next to my window so that they can get enough light. i'm looking for creative suggestions for making a shelf and the material i can use for it. a plain wooden shelf will be my last resort.

thanks!!

*Sorry I can't post a pic...*

I've been re-vamping some furniture I have, that I've gotten from various thrift stores over the past few years, but, one two-tier stand in particular, was being stubborn: I tried to paint it the same colour as a book shelf, but, it the paint started to bubble in several spots..and, naturally, since I got the spary paint at a dollar store, I couldn't find another can of the same stuff....so, I was going to throw it away...then, inspiration struck:

I sanded the shelves REALLY good, and re-sprayed them with some Krylon, in a pretty shad of peach I found, then I had printed out various prints of vintage adertisements for chocolate and booze, and cute 'frames' for them out of some robin's egg blue shelf lining paper, and decoupaged them on- 5 on the top, and 5 on the bottom...then finished it off with some spray sealer.

Must say it looks better than I had hoped, and I don't have to go shopping for new furniture now! *Yah!!*

Here are more examples of my bag creations... the rest are behind a cut. Please check out my userinfo about my website if you're so inclined.

Yesterday I bought this bag )

I love the bag, but hate that it is so leathery and boring looking. I would love to stain it somehow, so that it has a hint of deep red... think "black cherry"... any ideas how how I might do this? Or... any other suggestions on how I might spruce it up a bit... give it some personality?

Thanks much! [Sorry for the x-post... I accidentally posted to the wrong community first... but it works too, so my apologies if you have to see this twice.]

Edit: Sorry, lj-cut didn't work the first time... let's try this again.

Hey everybody! I've been thinking about making my own stationary lately with some nifty stamps. Does anybody know where I could purchase some blank stationary that I could decorate without ripping my pocketbook a new one? Thanks.

So... I'm going through a punky phase apparently, and I'm craving all sorts of those cute little pink/blue/black leather cuffs with the snaps. So I'm curious... instead of paying upwards of $6, how hard would it be to make them? I mean, initial investment might be high (How does one set snaps? Where can I get supplies and tools?)

And if I wanted to make cuffs out of other things (Say... kicky plaid fabric or something) how could I make it a little more substantial than just one layer of fabric? And where can I find pink/blue/black (p)leather like that? Michaels, Joanns?

Loves,

Heylows ppls. Im here makin muh first post on muh schtuff. About 2 weeks ago I started searchin for crafty schtuff and I decided to give "make a skirt outta a pair of jeans" a try. I didnt want to make a short skirt since I've got some of the whitest legs out there...so its floor length. AND BTW, the pants are size 12. I can put em on and off without unbuttonin them, IOW HUGE! (Im a size 9 now)...But I thought it came out cute, specially for being done by hand **gettin a sewing machine for xmas** and bein muh first project. Plus, I liked the stripes on the jeans. So, Ima use it even if i have to keep pullin it up (I dont like belts) So anyhoot, here are pics...hope I did the code right..if i didnt muh bad, like I said its muh first post.

[livejournal.com profile] uniquewallpaper posted about mini go snack containers, and I had some ideas, but they were too long for a comment. I really wanted to share them, and I'd love some input.

[livejournal.com profile] bubbledragon mentioned that they might make good emergency kits and it started me thinking. The first thing that came to mind was a rafting trip. An emergency kit in a waterproof container would be GREAT for a rafting trip. Of course, I was thinking of an ACTUAL emergency kit.

Then I started thinking about Silly Emergency Kits, and came up with this:

My family has an annual fishing trip, and I think an "emergency fishing trip kit" could be a really cute gift. I would paint the outside to look like a fish, I think. (What kind of paint would be good for painting plastic?)

  • lighter or matches (for people who smoke, it's inevitable that you'll remember your cigarettes but forget your lighter)

  • pens or pencils (for the puzzle books that inevitably go along with fishing trips)

  • a fish weight (I saw one that goes on a keyring the other day - the perfect size)

  • a roll-up measuring tape (good for acurately displaying the size of "the one that got away")

  • wet-wipes ("fish-guts" - 'nuf said)

  • Bottle opener

  • Band-aids (for those owies caused by fish-hooks)

  • Sample bottle of sunscreen, maybe?

  • Aspirin or non-aspirin (somebody on the boat ALWAYS gets a headache)

(other ideas?)

I was also thinking of things that you could put in a "New Baby Emergency Kit", "Back to School Emergency Kit", "First trip to camp" kit (my daughter just went to camp for the first time so this came to mind). Basically, I was thinking of colorfully painted containers of stuff for "life's little emergencies".

I thought it was a cute idea, so I thought I'd share. If anyone does anything like this, I'd love to see the results. If I happen to get around to doing it, I'll be sure to tell y'all all about it. :)

It took me four days to finish it. I mainly worked on it after work while watching TV, so I didn't get too bored. :-) The pattern is by Suzanne Cooper and is in her book Adorn Thyself. I hope everyone likes it!

If the picture looks blurry, blame it on my dial-up connection and AOL. :-) Nothing looks right unless I have my boyfriend upload it for me from his computer.

I'm addicted and on a roll.

Today I made a charm bracelet with shrinky dinks. I used the symbols from the Care Bears' bellies. And yes, I used the new symbol for Share Bear, if any of you are Care Bears dorks. ;o) I tried my best, but sometimes I just had to remember that detail would be shrunk like 9-fold, so I had to forgo some things.

Hope you gals like it. Any ideas for future charm themes? I could use some inspiration.

Edit: my webserver's being wonky. I'm not over any sort of limit, because I don't have any. But it's been slow recently, so just come back later if you're getting red x's

Care a lot! )
