I made a purse out of some scrap fabric I had. My sewing skills are.. not so great, lol. I messed up a few times and had to unravel my stitches and start over, and apparently I can not sew in a straight line unless I have pencil guidelines on the fabric, which I should've done in the first place. The finished project is smaller than what I originally had wanted, but still good.

So here's the finished purse, with a waterbottle next to it for size reference. Clicky the lj-cut for more pictures.

I want to get into stenciling/painting designs onto bags and clothes, but i have a few questions that hopefully some of you can answer!

1. what sort of paint can i use? i went to the craft store and only found puff paints for fabric or screen printing ink. would screen printing ink work ok if i'm not using a screenprinter?

2. is there a particular type of material that i should avoid stenciling on?

thanks.

-waves- Just joined, I've been watching this community for a while. It looks uber-cool and I love the project ideas.

I have two questions-

1. I have a lot of elastic and pony beads, letter beads and decorations...but I don't know what to spell out with the letter beads. Any ideas for cool words/phrases?

2. We're getting band lockers this week, and I was wondering what could be good decoration for the inside and for the back of the door. We're not allowed to use stickers, and we can't put anything on the front of them. The only thing I know I want for sure inside is a mirror, but the rest of it is blank. They're painted blue, with grey on the inside. I don't want to do the cliche of taping up pictures of celebrities.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I know winter's still a little ways off, but I decided to make myself a winter hat. I was going to modify it and add kitty ears to it, but I think I like it the way it is, and I can always add 'em later if I want! Instead of using two strands of yarn held together and a P hook, I used Lion Brand's Homespun yarn (so soft!) and a J hook. It came out so well, my roomie begged me to make one for her too! Next up... matching scarf and mittens... just need to find a mitten pattern.

Okay, this is my first completed craft project ever. I can't sew or crochet or draw, I can barely cut in a straight line. So when I came across this community and saw all of the nifty decoupage stuff I decided to give it a try. My parents are always giving me crappy furniture so this is what I did with it:

A bookcase covered with 80's 45 sleeves, made even tackier with glitter modpodge and acrylic sealant!

I bought two sets of these boxes at Michaels today:

And I need some cool painting techniques. I like the idea of painting them and taking a mini blow torch to scorch the paint, has anyone done this before who could give me tips?

(p.s. : I'm still a little high off of the sealant fumes, sorry for any typos or not making sense.)

hello, all.
been lurking awhile, but this is my first post.
i have a piece of chipboard which i want to paint with acrylics. it's fairly light (like the color of raw pine), and i want the paint to gradate from red to pale pink. do you think i need to prime it with gesso, or should it be okay as is?

thanks!
