Amazing what you can do with simple bits of hair and clay.

Someone posted a picture of a pink skirt with a blue elephant on it earlier. I went back looking for it so I could show a friend and now it is gone. Could whoever posted it, re-post it?

Thanks!

Ok, so I'm having an issue with a bag I'm making. It's a tote bag pattern from Simplicity, and it makes a large tote with bamboo handles. I found a similar bag online and there's a picture behind the cut )Right now I'm at the part where I have the bag sewn together, but haven't turned the corners out yet, because I can't figure out how to do it. The sides of the bag and the bottom are the same width, and each edge has been sewn 1/8th away from the edge to create a tuck. Also, the sides and the bottm tend to fold in because of the seams in the middle. The instructions say to bring the side seams and the bottom seams together, and then sew across the triangle that is created to make a neat corner. I can't for the life of me figure it out. My digital camera is out on loan or else I'd take pictures of the exact problem, but if I don't figure it out soon I'm going to go crazy. Any hints?

Here's the latest creation a cosmic themed lady:
Had to move all the pictures behind the cut, or my site will be taken down, so says the earthlink gods....
Moved pictures to under the cut if ya want to see.... )

I had a lot of fun making the clay face. It glows in the dark. I took a small doll, and made a negative mold of it's face. I then used that mold to make a face cast. Then I poked a few holes in it to make it a bead I could sew it to the felt form. It does take a lot of practice to get the faces to look right. I used one of the 3" sized Bratz dolls and cut off all the hair to make the mold.
She is mostly peyote stitch on a stuffed felt base.

you know those wood-backed squares of counter laminate in hardware stores? can you think of anything those could be used for? i used to aimlessly collect those when i was small.

I just found the web presence of a fond childhood memory.

My mom used to make stained glass, and would occasionally receive a catalog from a company called Whittemore-Durgin. It was one of the more droll and peculiarly written catalogs I've ever had the chance to read.

Well, I just saw an ad for classes re: stained glass, and so on a hunch, I searched on Whittemore-Durgin and found...

http://store.yahoo.com/whittemoredurgin/ !!

excerpt from http://store.yahoo.com/whittemoredurgin/dollseyes.html :

These 7/8" x 1/2" glass dolls' eyes were made prior to 1912. They are flat-backed. Mr. Ferguson of Roanoke writes "I used to have a problem with solitary drinking. Now I stick one of your dolls' eyes into one of my olives in place of the pimento, and drop it into my Martini. This way I don't feel so alone."

(they also have lots and lots of materials for serious glass working...)

I have to make a 3D animal cell for biology. My question is what would you use to make the ER (endosomethng reticulm) part of it? It looks similar to ribbons but not quite. I tried crepe paper and ribbon but neither worked. Any suggestions?
