i really wanna make some paper now, heh. the supplies i have, that i could possibly use, are:

- embroidery hoop
- netting / tulle
- washing up bowl
- sponges
- paper towels
- tissue paper

would it work to make a frame thingy out of the embroidery hoop and netting? i don't have any tights or stockings or anything that i want to waste. and would ripping up toilet paper work? what about coloured tissue paper?
and is there anything else i'd need that i haven't listed?...
fanks in advance!

This is so cool... and I know I'll never have time to do it, but I thought someone might get a kick out of it.

Yet another thing to do with an Altoid tin... make a pinhole camera!

Some of you may remember my post a few days ago about the exploding tube of E6000.
I got it out of my jeans (thank god) and I got a new tube of glue.
My *new* tube has already got 3 tiny cracks that are seeping glue.
What gives? I am an idiot? Is there a secret to keeping these tubes of glue from cracking that I don't know about? Every time I squeeze the stupid thing I've got glue oozing all over the place.

i've been interested in making my own silver jewellery and made this first attempt to make quite an advanced ring in sterling silver. it took me 8 hours to make! i don't have a studio of my own just yet, but a friend of mine does and she was kind enough to let me borrow her tools as you need quite a lot to make jewellery.

i didn't cast this one. i sawed the design out from a silver sheet and polished and soldered. i would love to make several more of these, maybe sell at my future webshop, but right now...?..naaah!

I just wanted to let you girls know that I saw a duct tape wallet being sold for $28.50 at an airport gift shop the other day.

So if any of you are reluctant about turning your crafts/hobbies/passions into a money-making establishment, I hope this changes your mind.

I wonder if the people who buy those realize how many wallets you can make with a $4 roll of duct tape.

has anyone had any luck making a magnetic coin purse out of felt?
i wonder if the felt is to thick to hold the magnets together?
and...if it won't work what else (besides a zipper) would be a good closeure for a coin purse?

I'm really interested in making some of my own seaweed soap. I usually buy this stuff and I LOVE it.. but it's so damn expensive.

I guess my question is.. has anyone else ever tried making their own seaweed soap?

I am going to make melt and pour soap, but I'm thinking of making my molds out of sculpey. Will this work or is it too porous? Does anyone have any tips on what to use for molds?

I forgot I had to make something for my daughters' teacher (they both have the same one since K & 1 are one class at our school).

Here is what I made yesterday )

I did it all by myself and I didn't have to buy that silly book. I have made 4 hats in the last week. However, I tire of hats and wish to make something else. The problem is, I don't get the instructions. Perhaps I should have bought the book after all. Anyone know other easy items I can make with a K hook and .99 cent yarn?

Ideas?

Nov. 23rd, 2003 02:45 pm
[identity profile] rozez.livejournal.com
Ok, even though I feel rather silly asking for ideas, I need too. I want to make a Christmas gift for my best friend. I want to somehow include all of our inside jokes-we have a ton. I was going to get a journal and write one joke on each page, expect he said he doesn't want anymore journals. So now I'm preplexed on what to do. Any ideas crafty gals?

Thanks in advance!
[identity profile] jesamine.livejournal.com
well, my soap melting experiment didn't work. i tried two different types of soap, seperately...and they both sort of just bubbled, blistered, swelled and split. i really wanna make my own moulded soap though...

so does anyone know where i can get soap granules or whatever in the *UK* or online?...if online, and American based, shipping must be cheap...!

thanks in advance :)

Mom's Christmaas gift is finally done!!!
It took about 2 months to complete (that includes waiting for the pics to arrive from my Granny in Paris, and I am pretty damn proud of it. The pictures are of the French side of my family. The oldest ones are in the bottom right: the little girl is my great grandma in 1908. She is 4.

Jar Lids

[identity profile] kgj.livejournal.com
Hi all. I haven't been able to post pictures of the things I make because I just moved across the ocean. I was wondering if you could help me a bit.

I am interested in reusing jars that I get from food. I was wondering what I can do with the lids. They are metal and usually have the name of the food on them (polander all fruit etc.) I've tried gluing fabric to them before but it peeled off. Any other suggestions.

Thanks in advance. I consider all of you an inspiration.

I have been using a stockenette stitch to knit myself a scarf. I'm trying to make it look like a cat.. anyway.. stockenette stitch (knit one row, purl one row) it curls... A LOT curly and rolly.

how do i get this to be FLAT?

can i iron it?
[identity profile] meloyellowd.livejournal.com
ok I remember someone posting hints on making Harry Potter (gryffindor) scarves. I want to make 1 for my bf's mom who has been dieing for one ( and one for myself) but, I couldn't find it in the memories but I have a few questions :

1) for the colors... I already have red heart - "gold" and mainstays "soft burgundy" are these close to the right colors?

2) what would you suggest - crocheting or knitting?

3) I've never crocheted or knitted so this would be my first time... any suggestions, tips, or tutorials you could give me?

A while back at Joann Fabric I picked up some fleece to make a no sew fringed fleece blanket. The problem I just realized today is that I can't seem to find the directions. I can't remember the amount of material that you cut out from the corners, I keep thinking four inches but I'm not sure. I looked at the Joann Website but coudln't find it. I know that they had it in store as a handout you could take home with you.

It's a long shot but I was hoping that someone else might have picked up the handout and might have the measurements for the material that you remove.

These are great to make for baby showers and throws and I was planning on making a couple for Christmas presents.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about and has the specs and could post them I'd be in your debt.

Thanks in advance!

How would I go about making a scarf out of fleece?

I want to make one for my boyfriend for christmas and embroider something in it but I don't know if there is any specific pattern/way of making this.

Thanks in advance!!

I'm making my friend a purse for her birthday and i was just about to buy a box or something, when one of my friends told me that you could decoupage fabric. Is this true? Has anybody done anything like that before? Is it any different than normal decoupage? I'm sort of in a hurry because i have to have the whole thing completed by wednesday and if it won't work i don't want to mess up the whole purse i'm making.

Thanks in advance everybody.

xmas

I finally got my christmas present plans in order... for my family at least.

I'm making a basket for everyone, with different things according to what they like.

baskets include:

*a mug with made chocolate covered plastic spoons with crushed peppermint, a few swissmiss packages, a journal, and a book

*a mug with spiced tea (thanks to you guys for this one) home made stress ball, insence and candle

*home made oatmeal soap, washcloth, loofah

*home made bath oil, glycerine soaps with silk flowers inside, votive candles

all of the above will include homemade lip gloss, and a package of some candy bar fudge and linzer bars in cellophane. For my family members with dogs, I'm making home made dog biscuits.

I'm still trying to think of something to line the bottom of the basket, or even to make it not look so empty. like easter grass does. to make it look pretty. diy or not, doesnt matter.

another idea I had, since I play guitar and sing, was to record some christmas songs on a cd and make labels for them, and give them with the rest of the presents. not sure about anyone else's family, but mine would be complimenting me for years on it.

just posted this in case anyone needed ideas. I'd be happy to share recipes as well.

Can you help me?
Im after some elaborate cord 'frogs' you know those things that are like the fasteners on chinese dresses but big to close a coat, quite strong and ornate and probably around 15 or so in quantity (obviously black or mebbie red).

If anyone can PLEASE help me with any links or pointers as to where I can order them online (UK) preferable I would be so grateful!

Thank you all so much!

helllpp meee...

+ im customizing a guitar strap for my beautiful singing/songwriting/musician boyfriend. im going to buy a plain black one, then soup it up with pins, patches, and strips of keenly patterned fabric. should i sew it on? and if so, how? yeah not much of a sewer here. at all. ever...or would fabritack be okay?
+ where can i find teeny tiny candy molds? michaels is a definite no.
+ i bought some herbs specifically for adding into bath salts. but, could i mix them on there own, put them in satchets, and make them bath teas? would they irritate the skin by themselves?
+ also! today i discovered this glorious beautiful substance of the gods known as E-600! it assisted me in making 50 joygasmic marble magnets, and...i think i'm in love...
ps- go buy some. <3

thank you so much for ANY information offered, much love to all of you, xo.

so i have kind of a weird question.

i have these khaki pants that have a bunch of stains on them, but i love the way they fit. is there any way to permanently dye them back to a khaki-ish or brown color (i don't want anything funky looking)?

i was thinking maybe a brown rit dye, but i'm not sure how well that would work.

i have made a bookmark in silver. i sawed out this design (a cat's head) from silver sheet and polished, engraved and soldered a silverloop (?) to the side of the head. then i put a leatherstring through the silverloop and at the end of the leatherstring i turned a piece of silverthread/silverwire (?) into a spiralform to give it something extra to the end. i think this took me about 5 hours to make...i'm a slow learner...

thought some of you mighe be interested!
here's the link to a .pdf file (needs adobe acrobat reader) which has been uploaded to my server: http://edgeman.cjb.net/simplyspeaking/powerofthepin.pdf

i'm making organza sachets for a few people for Christmas. i have lavender and rosemary to go in them so far. but i want to mix something with it, something cheap, so i don't have to use as much lavender and rosemary. the woman in the health food shop said wheatgrain...so i bought some. but i think it's a bit too heavy and bulky looking for organza sachets. so i'm using that for scented heat pads instead.
so yeah, what can i mix with lavender and rosemary to fill my organza sachets with? something not too heavy and bulky looking...
[identity profile] annelito.livejournal.com
does anyone know where i can find adhesive tape that looks like aluminium or chrome? not thick, but quite thin but still possible to handle. any suggestions are welcomed! thanks!
