I have about a yard or 2 of leftover red felt that my roommate gave me. I'm at a loss. Any ideas?

I answered an ad on craigslist for free stuffed animals. And ended up with about three dozen. I was going to do a little impromptu errr...art installation. Smuggle them into 170 Dwinelle before class and put them all in the seats (complete with paper and pencil of course). The more morbid side of my sense of humour was rooting to just string them all up in a tree. But of course I never got around to either one. My project list is way too backed up.

But as the christmas season rolled around, it seemed like such a terrible waste. Putting a smile on some kid's face is worth more than my temporary amusement. Besides, it's not like I'm so hard to amuse. So I washed them all--all six loads of them--and prettied them up with some ribbon and candy. And got them ready to send off to their new homes.

But before we said our final farewells, we had a little photo session. See, they're also my christmas cards. It's my version of a donation was made in your name, as I am too broke to actually donate any money. Heh.

And to add a dash of character, I'm going to give a little background information on each.

This is Palmer. His favourite food is candied carrots with marshmallows. He enjoys modular origami and in his spare time volunteers at A.B.E.T. (Advocates for the Bunny Ears Technique).

Hello. It's very late here and I don't feel like going to sleep yet and I had an idea. A few years ago one of my friends sent me a notebook from her little cousin. She was doing a school project - she needed to write a little bit about herself and where she lived, then send it to someone else to do the same, who then sent it to someone else, and so on. Once the book filled up she asked that it get sent back to her. Ultimately, the book ended up going around the world and was full of cool stuff from all sorts of people. I was thinking that might be something fun to do. So, I'm interested to see if anyone wanted to do something like that. I thought that I might send out 5-10 different books and ask people to add a craft idea, recipe, drawing, creative writing, etc. Or whatever else strikes your fancy. Then when the books get back to me I could make copies of them, or scan them and send everyone who wrote in it a copy. (Since I work in a print shop it would be very easy for me to do.)
If anyone is interested drop me an email: jrharper333@twmi.rr.com

no, i'm not talking about regurgitation. i'm talking about the love child of a beanie and a scarf.

since everybody is seemingly now knitting and crocheting, i'm suprised i haven't seen one of these made. they are terribly fun, but warm, seeing that the beanie part covers the back of your neck as well as your ears, then there's the scarf. oh-so-toasty

beanie + scarf = barf )

Advertising a community a friend and I have started :)....If this post is unwelcome, my apologies, and of course, delete it.
It's a community that's for the "normal" crafts, but also for the art that we make on the computer.

Hi Guys!

I am mostly a lurker but I have a small request, perhaps could someone make a community called "gift_ideas_needed" or something and post all those requests for gift ideas there? I mean, we all have someone on our list who is hard to craft for, but in a community of almost 4000 members (not to mention lurking non-members) that's a lot of posts asking what to make for your mother's best friend's dog's husband's cousin who likes bowling, showtunes and underwater basket weaving. :)
[identity profile] k8lynsnightout.livejournal.com
Hey! I'm rather new to this community, but I've been crafting for a while. I don't have a sewing machine, but I can knit, hand-sew, stencil, and I'm up for anything new.

Now here's my dillema:
I have a new boyfriend. His name is Mike, and he likes shopping, ska, and movies. He's a senior in H.S. (I'm a sophmore), works at Yankee Candle, is in the ROTC, FBLA, and drives a 92 Nissan Maxima. With Christmas right around the corner and me with an empty wallet, I decided that I would craft him something. But what?!

Please comment. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

Oh, and for some shameless advertising, I have a crafy site.

This was suggested on one of the threads here... so I figured I'd take the initiative and get it set up. :)

I am going to do some painting in my kitchen soon. Currently the walls are brown wood paneling. Welcome to the 70's!

I am going to prime and paint the paneling bright white to open up the kitchen, but to also still semi-match the tan colored metal cabinetry.

What brand / type of primer and paint do you suggest?

Also, a small wall of the kitchen, in between the door and a cabinet, less than one foot wide, has been used as a growth chart for my husband's family for over twenty years. I don't want to paint over this section of paneling. Any ideas to 'frame' or accent this section of wall without destroying the fabulous history on it?

HELP!

Hi all! I've looked at the memories and there's nothing that catches my eye regarding this topic.

My family and I are very close, and Christmas is going to be very special for us this year because we have been through so much together. For example, my dad who had surgery will be home for Christmas so we don't have to do Christmas in the hospital.

There are six of us total, and I want to make each one of us basically the same thing but personalized.

I want it just to symbolize how strong we are as a family and whatnot.

I've got about $30.00 total (thanks to the lottery) and not much time.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mandy

Well, I looked in the no-sew section in the FAQ but didn't really find what I was looking for and since I got a helpful response last time I posted a question, I thought I would go for it again.

I am wanting to make a no sew fleece blanket with matching pillows for my special someone. Hehe. Now, I know you can typically just get a length of fleece and *ta-da!* a blanket. I was thnking of getting two piece of the same length, fringing them and tying the fringe together ala the pillows (there was a post about no sew pillows a while back but I can't seem to find it). That way it's extra thick and warm and can be a different color on each side. And of course the pillows would match. I was wondering how many yards of fleece do you all get to typically make a blanket? I'm going to get about 30 (x 30) inches for the pillows (cut seperately, of course, because that's less work for me and I am lazy).

Also... the fringe tying system, while very cool and easy and defininitely workable... isn't very manly. Which I know he probably wouldn't care a bit about but I was just wondering if you all had any ideas about ways to do it to make it more masculine looking.

I am behind in updating with photos of things I have made recently...

I've got some scarf and hat sets and a lightbulb vase and some candles and a vase and wine glass charms and earrings and necklaces and sun catchers.... and wow, I am really behind... for you all to see.

haha...i'm all excited. i bought a 200 pack of crayola crayons last night at bj's. well, i was more excited when i thought it was 200 actual colors, but it's actually 200 crayons, 100 colors 2 each. oh well, i'm still excited. i have no idea what i'm going to do with 200 crayons, but i just had to have them. i guess i'll be coloring a lot of pictures, and when i get tired of coloring, i'll do that melty thing.

i bought my first bottle of mod podge. yay. i bought stuff to make marble magnets...and couldn't find a 1/2 inch circle paper punch ANYWHERE. god hates me. oh well, i bought a 1/2 inch circle template and a teeny exacto knife, which i think will be easier than scissors. yay. whoever said to find _stuff_ magazine for pictures...uh...i see pictures, but they ain't cute and teeny. the _stuff_ magazine i found is full of quite scantily clad women...which i ain't exactly bitchin' about...but hee!

i also bought melt and pour olive oil soap, which i think will be lovely lovely. bought the frog/turtle molds and the flower/leaves molds. i guess the molds are for more than one use, right? am i supposed to just pour the m&p into them right off, or am i supposed to like, spray them with pam or something? yeah, i'm inexperienced.

oh, and haha...i bought origami paper, cuz i got all excited the other night when i made my first origami crane out of a cut piece of printer paper...it looks a little crippled, but i think it will be much easier with actual origami paper.

i made those potpourri and christmas light jars, and i'll put up pics in a day or two. i'm making potholders (i just love handmade woven potholders)...and i got baskets on the cheap from michaels to put everyone's stuff in. i think it's gonna be a kinda festive christmas. :)

I have a question for all you crafty folks.

I want to make tile coasters almost like the ones shows here:
http://www.papercandy.com/Projects/stamptalk.htm

But after reading up on Mod Podge I learned its not good if it gets wet.

So my question is what would you recommend for a sealant on a tile coaster?

i just had a great idea which was so obvious, but never occurred to me before. i was working on two separate projects for solstice gifts and realized that i could use the leftovers from one project to do another.

you know those tiny thumbnail pictures that are all on one picture sheet that they give you when you get your film developed? i was about to throw them away when i realized that i could cut out each individual tiny picture and use them for my marble magnets.

anyway - thought i'd pass that on to anyone who hadn't already realized that. it makes a great gift. i've got a million of those tiny pics of my daughter and i'm making a bunch of them for her grandparents. guaranteed tear-jerker.

First off, sorry to post this in a few places, but I believe I need help.
I do not have alot of time to spare, as I just came up with this idea tonight.

My email address is Jessica1981@nc.rr.com You may contact me there if you'd like to help

My mom works in a nursing home and some people do not get any cards or visitors at Christmas time and that upset me. I come from a large family, like 14 aunts and uncles, so family is always around...heh heh

Anyways I was making my own cards for family and friends and tonight I asked my mom about her people...if people came to see them or give them cards. She said quite a few did not receive cards or visitors, so I want to make them all cards. I know..last minute last minute. But I need to do this. I can't have sad old people at Christmas time...it is not even all old people. Some younger people too.

Here's the deal...I don't have alot of spare time to do research and junk...so I need your best Christmas quotes...or your best ideas for a fast card. I have a bunch of left-over cardstock and I NEED TO MAKE 100 CARDS. See why each one cannot take a long time.

I am broke. Like seriosuly broke. I have $0.35 to my name, but luckily I am a crafty jerk who hoards stuff. For supplies I have stamps..santa..individual letters, ink...gold, red, gree, glitter..red, silver, blue, green, mixed, glue...glue sticks, elmer's glue in a bottle, and rubber cement. I have a bunch of origami paper. I have tons of gel pens. I have ribbon.

I mean I have alot of stuff, I just need to mass produce them without making every card the same ya know?

So anyone with any ideas would be very helpful.
I will have help...maybe..meaning my little brother. He is not very crafty though and his writing is not the best. So he can help a little.

i checked through the faq and didn't find anything about this...

i'm going to register a domain name, and am going to use my friend's server to host everything.

do i have to find a domain provider that will include a redirect in the fee?

is that the ONLY way if i don't have my domain name registered with a server? so my www.myname.com will switch to www.myfriendsname.com/myname.html or can i somehow LEAVE my www.myname.com in the title bar. again, do i need to find a domain name provider that does this, or can i do it with any old domain provider?

thanks!

i think i'm gonna cry :(

i started working on my precious metal clay(PMC+) brooch today, and i got the leaf part done, but as i was making coils for hte vines it kept dying out on me mid-roll. i did the oil on the hands thing and the water thing, but it just wasnt working.

i spend almost 60 bucks on 36g, i really dont want to have to punt at this point. but i cant just fire the leaf part cuz it wil look wierd. any suggestiond on rehydrating the clay? i put what was left in its lil baggie wraped with a damp cotton ball in there too, should that work if i leave it overnight in the fridge?

sigh, good intentions always get me frustrated ;_;

I'm too sleepy/lazy to get the link for the pattern. But this is the panda bear I made from BH&G or something or other. It turned out retarded, but feel free to laugh, because I'm laughing. It's a gift for my sister for Christmas, so I'm expecting more laughs around then too. Ha ha ha.

Word of advice: Maybe don't follow the pattern exactly as it says. The head turned out too small (and was also cone-shaped so I had to sew in the head a bit which made it even smaller). And the arms turned out weird when I did it as in the pattern, so I freeformed the arms. Ha ha ha.. alrighty.

I started & finished this project tonight. Caron Sayelle yarn in navy and baby blues. HDC stitches; H hook. I still have yet to line it. Also I got really tired of weaving in ends, so the part that's going to have lining, I just tied all the ends into knots and just weaved in every now and then. I know, I shouldn't have, but whatever. Ha ha. I made it for my Polaroid Mio camera so it would have a home and so I could have an easy/stylish way to carry it around. Yay! I'm very proud of it.
