any thoughts on the best way to make these? I was thinking I would cut the duct tape into really thin strips, fold them in half, stick side in, and then just braid them like normal. But how would you do the clasp part?

I'm having a big housewarming/birthday party at the end of the month. It's a black and white party and I've looked almost everwhere for a large "&" rubber stamp and I can't find anything large enough (I need it at least 2x3)

The invitation is a white card half covered with black sueded paper with the & in the middle embossed in clear. Please help, whoever helps me can come to the party and me and my boyfriend will make out with you! :)!!

since i am jittery from 4 cups of coffee, i am being crafty.
my sister lindsay, who is 14, has to carry around a 32 oz. water bottle for her medical condition.
she mentioned it always slipping out from underneath her arm, so here's a bag to solve the problem!
if i can't fix her fainting, i'll just make a bag to help her.

slice up those remnants... )

So 2 weeks ago I bought the book "Stich & Bitch" on a whim at my local bookstore. I've crocheted for 20 plus years, but have never even picked up a pair of knitting needles before.

Anyway, I can't believe how easy this book makes learning to knit! Here's a picture of my second project, a monster fur/wool purse. I'm so dorkily proud of it. :) Read more... )

Inspired by the wonderful people at [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl I finally got around to making my own marble magnets.
I also painted little cardboard boxes to match (painted badly I might add)

Lots of fun and relatively easy. Thank you! Im inspired to do record journals next. I just have to get the materials.

About a year ago I suffered a stroke. I'm pretty much better now, and I'm really pretty inappropriate about it. Anyhoo, the stroke coincided with my 21st birthday, so I never got to celebrate. Next month is my 22nd birthday, so I'm planning to throw a STROKE-A-VERSERY party! I need help thinking up decorations and party games and whatnot. I'm really sorry if this offends anyone. I have a pretty sick sense of humor.

What I've got so far:
Test tubes for shotglasses
Watching the movie Spinal Tap (drinking game perhaps?)
AngioGram Crackers

I know you're a creative lot, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for this theme party. Don't hold back anything! Thanks!

Hey craftgrrls... you know how i was going to make a purse a few days ago?

Well I guess i need some fuseable webbing, but I have no wheels to drive me down the street to hancock fabrics... Do you know if i could just use duct tape? haha I know this sounds like a stupid idea but i really don't want to go out. (and i have no money)

thank you for your help.

Hi,

I'm a newbie--I just wanted to say hi. Also I commented yesturday about making the marble magnets. First, I'm so happy that everyone is so willing to help, thats so nice and different :) Any who, today is my weekend, and I usually sleep in, but I was so excited to make the marble push pins, that I work up early and ran to michaels. They turned out wonderful, and once i take the time to post them, i'll let you all see. Second, I'm a 22 year old who's spent years working as a pre-school teacher, program director, and girl scout camp counselor. In Febuary, I'll be leaving to be apart of Royal Caribbeans Youth Staff, so just to let you know, I'm watching this community for great ideas to use with the kids!!! Also, I'm the girl in college who's friends make fun of her, out of jest of course, because she cross stitching or making shrinkie dinks. Just a little introduction. I can already tell that I'm going to love this community.

I was bored out of my mind, so yesterday I decided to make a duct tape bag. The inside of the bag doesn't look so great since I didn't put any tape on the side of the inside, but other wise I think it turned out good ^___^
I also tried gluing some magnets on the inside so it would close. But the magnets ended up being too weak (stupid cheap magnets!) so I had to take them out since they weren't doing anything.

I have a friend who has just recently moved away from home to be with her boyfriend. She has one bag of stuff (some clothes and neccessities). I want to send her a box of things.. girly and house like things. I have a purse I'm going to send and I'd like to fill it with other things that aren't too expensive but are very thoughtful -- any ideas here?

Anyone know where the instructions to make a shirt out of two scarves or handkerchiefs went to?
Thanks a million.

So I decided to follow the magazine bag instructions, found under FAQ/Memories under bags/purses. They don't work. It is not possible to sew the whole thing on a sewing machine, at least not my sewing machine. Although, I made mine out of postcards so they are thicker than magazines. It's actually not finished, because I have to hand sew 3 more sides together, which you'll see in the top left picture but I figured maybe you guys had suggestions on how to finish sewing it, or how to sew it on the sewing machine the rest of the way. Or just comments in general.

Two things, everyone! First, I thought I'd share an idea I had for making jeans more nifty. I'm going to do this as soon as I have time and money for jeans.

1. Get pair of regular jeans, cut slit on each side of pant leg however long you want.

2. Hem, punch eyelets into each side, evenly spaced.

3. Get triangular wedges of fabric (I'm going to use ties because I have a whole bunch of them), hem, punch eyelets in, too.

4. Lace the wedge thingies into the jeans with shoelaces, lace, string, whatever. Now you have bellbottom jean thingies...but they're interchangeable! If you get sick of whatever color you have in there, make new ones! And you can take the wedges out completely and just lace the two jean edges together to make regular jeans again, woo!

Anyway, second thing--I have a dream to make one of those mixed yarn scarf thingies that I've seen people wearing (and they sell ugly versions of them at Target!). Basically if you haven't seen them they're just knitted in stripes and every 5 or so rows the yarn changes to a completely different one with a weird texture or color or whatever. They're totally mismatched and that's what makes them great.

So to make myself one, I'd have to buy like 15 skeins of yarn and use next to nothing from each. Would anyone like to donate/sell/trade me some bits of yarn that are too small to make "regular" projects with? I also want to make a scarf of just different shades of green, like..regular acrylic yarn though. So if you have any yarn bits, please let me know. :)

Lastly, I'm teaching myself to crochet finally (I don't know how you people do it. Knitting is easier and less hard on my wrists :\) and even though it's hard for me, I'm excited that I can actually *do* it. There are some crochet patterns that just wouldn't look right in knitting. :)

my boyfriend's parents let me have one of their sewing machines.
it's old school.
it comes in a sweet 70's-ish bag though.
anyways, it didn't come with a manual and i was curious if anyone had a "morse" sewing machine. i can't seem to put the thread in the right way or something, because when i sew with it, it'll act like it's sewing...but it's not. poor thing.
anyways, i thought i'd ask...although i could prbably ask his parents. (they aren't home now though and i wanna sew now!!!)

blargh.

first one isn't so much crafty as it is a crafty aid. maybe it's just me who constantly writes ideas down on stupid post it notes and loses them promptly.. so i decided to make a little crafty idea book/craft log to help me get organized... i just prined up a little table and made copies on various coloured papers. for the cover pages, i got some cardstock, and attached some nifty tissue paper to it with spray adheisive. then i glued another piece of pretty paper on the inside of the cover, to make it look more book-like. then i took the whole shebang to kinko's and got it spiral bound. am i the only one enerntaining thoughts of hostilly taking over kinko's and making off with their spiral binding machine? so yea, this is what the finished notebook thing looks like:
notebook pics )

I also made a PBR can cuff, inspired by the pop can cuffs posted on craftster. came out pretty nifty, i really wanna make more now :)
