my cousin (1st grade) & his family has been living in my house for a year, & now him & has father are moving out. he went to a before school & after school program, & they are throwing him a party this friday. my mom has asked me to put together a craft that all the kids can do in about a 10-15 minute time span.

i thought about using my polaroid & taking a picture of each child with my cousin, & then having them make picture frames, but i'm looking for a new idea. i've searched the faq's & everything i saw didn't suit my interests &/or will take to long to make. thank you ahead of time. :)

I want to make my roommate a scarf out of fleece with a felt pink flamingo on the bottom half. I don't really have the time to sew it all the way around so I was wondering if stitch witchery is safe for fleece? I've never used it but I have a few rolls that I bought to hem some table cloths for my student union and I thought I could use it for the scarf if it will work. any tips for stitch witchery first timers?

I would like to start to make beaded jewellry. Is there any sites that you could recommend for patterns, and knowledge, and such.
[identity profile] chown-me.livejournal.com
A week or so ago I was browsing through a bunch of crafty web sites and ran across one with an online store that sold a set of cards and magnet that descriptions of every day household objects on them (like an artist's description of a refrigerator) like you would find underneath a painting or sculpture in an art museum...does anyone know which site I'm talking about? I thought is was one of the links in the memories section here, but I can't find it now :-/

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

[Edit: Never mind, found it. Forgot to turn my brain on this morning.]

greetings, fellow craftgrrls,

i found this site while searching for room decor-ish stuff. i'm now bound and determined to have some, but $35 for six measly decals is just not agreeing with me. since i'm kind of clueless as to what materials would be good to slap up on my walls (and would be removable and non-damaging so my landlord doesn't execute me, there are already strategically-placed posters over past paint chips and other such fuck-ups)... could someone help a sista out?

thanks!

Ladies, please do you have suggestions on sites where I can link my own site for selling items? I'd like to get the word out. I've just linked to bust.com but I don't know where else to look!

Thank you in advance,
Sara Bird.

krappy keds

I have inherited a brand-spanking-new pair of white canvas Keds.

They're awful.

I'm appealing to all you punk-rock girlies out there to help me with my dilemma.
I'm poor and I would love to wear a new pair of shoes, but these are so... blindingly white. And old-lady.

I've thought about attacking them with a bedazzler and a marker, but that's so... expected. Anyone have any ideas? I'm up for anything... (I own everything to screenprint, but my screen's rather big, and these are rather small, so that's probably a no go... perhaps iron-ons, sewing, stencils... decoupage?!)

KThx.

I just have to share . . .

My Sneaky and Very Butch girlfriend sewed me a Christmas present.

Some people can't figure it out, but it's supposed to be this:

Woot! New member here.

So, I'm Lee, and I'm into duct tape crafts mostly. I haven't made much yet, just bag/purse type things and wallets, but here are some pictures of the bags.

Question:

Jan. 7th, 2004 05:13 pm
[identity profile] dykestar.livejournal.com
I'm about to make sort of a bed-spread.

haha.

I say "sort of" because really I just need a rectangle of fabric hemmed on all sides that matches my new bed curtain and dorm-room decorations. It's IMPOSSIBLE to find affordable East Indian bedclothes, so I figured I'd pick up a yard or 2 of home-dec fabric from somewhere and make my own. So my question is: What are the standard dimensions of a twin-sized bedspread?

I basically just need something to cover my non-matching "real blankets". I prolly won't even sleep under it, it'll be just so that the bed looks made up.

Thanks in advance for yr help :D

I beaded these 2 dragons (one red, one blue-green) to make a yin-yang necklace - or something. Haven't quite decided yet what I'm going to do with them. Each one measures about 2.5" wide by 5" long. Both of these dragons were modified from a pattern by Sarah's Beading Obsession (amulet bag pattern called Stormy Night Dragon, available at The BeadCoop

perhaps the only thing dorkier than modding your own gameboy advance is carrying your gameboy advance around in your purse to get in key game play moments while waiting in line. sitting in traffic. waiting on food in resteraunts. and if anything is dorkier than carrying your gameboy around with you all the time it just might be....

I'm not sure how "crafty" this is but oh well, here it goes...

I'm helping design some costumes and set for my school's spring play, which happens to be Midsummer Night's Dream. The whole thing is a really extreme mortals-fantasy lay-out, and so that's how costumes and set are gonna be handled. I'm mainly a bit concerned about the faeries in the performance, because there's so much work in their costumes.
We're trying to do this on a very tight budget, so I was wondering what we could use for costume pieces that won't break the bank?
Most of the line-less characters will be easy (all they have on is body paint and flowers ^_^) but the characters like Puck, Oberon and Titania are a little more tricky, because they'll be needing full costumes, mainly drapey skirts, tights, tribalistic facepaint, sparkles, horns, the whole deal.

What materials can we use for costumes?

Bath Bombs

Jan. 7th, 2004 11:59 pm
[identity profile] we-happy-few.livejournal.com
Hi guys,
I wanted to share with you my experience making bath bombs as Christmas presents this year. It went well, though I did have to drive about a bit finding ingredients. I used Brenda Sharpe's recipe and a soap mold that I got at Michaels. The Citric acid is the hardest thing to find, the rest I got at the grocery store. Fortunately there is a brewing supply store near me in Cambridge (The Modern Brewer) where I was able to get 5 pounds of citric acid powder for $17 (not nearly as expensive as Brenda makes it out). I have plenty left now for future batches.

The first batch I made wouldn't hold together, even after 2 days of drying, they would crumble when picked up. Adding more oil didn't help either. So I used one of the other recipes that said to use Witch Hazel. I put it in a spray bottle and would mist the mixture as I was mixing it with my hand, after 5-6 mists (keep it mixing or the fizzing will start), it was wet enough to cake well. so I packed the molds and in 10 minutes they had hardened quite well. I misted the outside a few more times to harden it a bit extra. A week later they were perfect. I never would have though of making bath bombs, but you guys gave me the idea and it was a lot of fun.

Thanks!
