There was a recent post asking about mixing dried herbs in with candle wax. When I was replying to that post it occured to me that some people in this community might like directions for making botanical candles. Just mixing herbs or flowers into the wax creates a fire hazard. This is a safe way to get that look.

Supplies
Candle Wax
Scent
Wick
Herbs or dried flowers
Two candle molds*
this works best with uncolored wax. If you color do so lightly

*The molds you choose should be approximately the same height. You should choose one mold that will make a candle that will fit in the second, larger mold with room for flowers/herbs around it.

1. Melt and scent enough wax to make a candle that will fit in the larger mold.

2. Use the wax to make the smaller candle first. Let it set. Don't trim the wick yet.

3. Put the smaller candle inside the larger mold. Pack herbs around the small candle (try to keep them no more than half way to the top). Pour in wax to fill the larger mold. Skim off any herbs that float to the top.

4. Let cool, filling in any valleys as needed. When you remove the candle from the mold you'll have the look of fresh herbs without the fire hazard.

If the herbs and flowers aren't showing up as much as you'd like, you can melt the wax a little with a blow dryer or heat gun. Use a pair of panty hose to buff out the rough spots after melting.

When burning it you'll want to make sure it doesn't burn too long. You want it to burn down the center, leaving the wax with the herb untouched. Once it's burned all the way down you can use tea lights in it.

I hope this makes sense. I don't recommend this for your first candle making venture, but once you know how to make a candle this is pretty easy.

While bored yesterday afternoon, I remembered a project I wanted to do :a double stranded scarf. I broke out a skein of blue yarn, a skein of pink, and a P-Hook and got to work. Two hours later I got This )

I just spend an hour going through the faq looking for the information on making a pair of jeans bigger by adding patchwork down the side of the legs. Can anyone direct me to the link for this? I would really appreciate it.

If any of you remember a post some time back about Bras for Breastcancer..I made one. I was going to take a picture and post it, but I was in a hurry yesterday and had it all sealed up and everything before I remembered. I just figured Id post about it, and try to explain it some..so here it goes:
It was a pink bra, and I made 2 cute felt flowers (white, off white, light pink and a dark pinkish) and put one in the center of each cup. I then sewed them on and added some beads with the thread to give it some zazz. I then sewed beads up the straps. I really wish I would have taken a picture :( Oh well, next time!

Hi all, I’ve been lurking around here, and loving all the ideas I’ve been getting from others' projects.

I have a question though. Has anybody ever made cards? Not happy b-day cards, but tarot, or oracle cards. I don’t know much about paper, but what would you recommend I use, it needs to be sturdy enough to go through a ton of handling but not so study that I can't shuffle. I’ll probably put on a drawing of my own, so I also need some way to seal them together as well. Any ideas?

Hello Crafties,

I've been wondering this for a while -- I know how to hand-felt the 'regular' way, by rolling layers of roaving in hot water in a rolled up bamboo shade, & how to dry-felt little dolls & etc, but...

How do you felt 'lace'? I don't know exactly how to explain, but I was at American Rag (on La Brea here in Los Angeles) and saw this jacket of mauve felted wool that had somehow been made to look like lace. The only thing I've found that looks like it is;

This Shawl

and

The lace on this skirt

So, any ideas?

Well, I have caught my second wind and am once more going to attack the faq/memories and try to get it as organized as possible. Hopefully I can tackle all the holiday/gift idea sections this time. So don't panic if you look at the faq and it's a little different. I am trying to make categories alphabetical in nature, and somewhat user friendly. I only have my own common sense to fall back on, so my apologies if it isn't as universal as I thought. So things will be shifting around a bit!

Thank you all so much for your patience!

I have started seeing "Jelly bags" everywhere. Is a cheap example and a more expensive one. Do you think it would be possible to handmake one of these. Do you know where you can buy the jelly type material?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Ladies,
I run a craft group at a senior citizen center on Friday mornings. Today I got a list of soldiers still over seas in Iraq and my dear old ladies jumped at the idea of sending them some warm wishes. I was wondering if you all had some good suggestions. They are already getting supplies and things they need, what we'd like to send are more things just to lift their spirits. Small light weight things are a plus since I only have limited budget for shipping and I'd like to get every soldier on the list.

thanks a bunch

Hi!

Today I made a coupon booklet template at work and thought someone else might like to use it or modify it or something:

http://www.lunamanium.com/misc/couponstemplate.doc - 123k Microsoft Word 2000 Document

The document also includes some generic clip art pics (that must be why it's so big) and some basic instructions. If you're not really familiar with word processing programs then you might not want to bother with this since it includes tables and slightly odd printing instructions. But if you know how to print a single page of a document at a time then figuring out how it works will be a snap for you.

Have fun!

P.S. Some people who tried to download it have had problems (IE and Email crashing) so please be careful. It worked fine for me (I uploaded it from work and downloaded it at home from this very link) so I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. Be careful!
