well...i was determined to make something using my new sewing machine...

and i did! a bag...using some darkish green cotton material for the main bit...and an old dark blue t-shirt for the lining. i used a zig-zag stitch, coz i thought it looked cool, heh. i made it up as i went along...even though i wasn't sure where to start at first. i was just going to do the sides 'normal'...but had a better idea when playing around with it and stuff. oh,and it's kind of boat-shaped...mehe...
here it is:

i'm so proud of myself :D

I'm new. This site is so inspiring! I'm away at school, so I can't be very crafty, but I'm working on a blanket made out of old band tshirts. I bought so many that didn't fit me, and my clothes have gotten tighter as I have gotten older, so I need to put them to use again. I was going to finish the edges with baby blanket edging or tshirt, but I want to do something cool. Ideas would be awesome.

Also, can one sew vinyl on a normal sewing machine? I've always been scared to try on my mom's sewing machine. That shark bag is gorgeous.

Hi everyone, I'm new here and I love all your ideas of stuff. Just craft things in general are amazing.
I made a cool little chest for my piercings last week.
I found a little pattern in a store for making TINY furniture for dollhouses. I just multiplied the measurments by like 10 and cut it out with my brothers wood router then used some wood glue to glue it all together, used a little latch that I had to lock it closed and painted it black. :) I just have to pass by the mall this week and buy some red or gold felt or something to glue to the inside. Then I'm just going to (maybe) dry brush some gold paint on to make it look not so dull and I'm done. Then I can toss all my labret, lip and belly piercings in there.
P.s -- I love it here!!

i know jack about both. other than the hooked needles. and that my great gramma used to crochet snow hats with little flowers on the side that did *nothing* against the cold. and tons, and tons of them. i probably have like..20 still.
and tatting... i get the feeling it involves crochet needles, but *tiny* as in...size 10, 13 but thin? i dont know if theyre different. i have a whole bunch of stuff that my moms friend gave me. it was knitting needles (which im using) and yarn and all that good stuff for knitting, a whole bunch of large crochet hooks and a box of thin thread in tons of colors, tiny crochet hooks, linen handkerchiefs, and some random junk that i cant place as belonging to any category. probably because i dont have the slightest clue about all 3 (knitting crocheting and tatting) all though i can knit. typical. along with the tiny needles and colored thread, there were little lacy loopy things, and pretty lacey things attached to the linen things. and names.

id just like to know *anything* about it. tatting that is (which is what i *think* thats what the stuff is for.) and links to instructions for that and crocheting. id like to go out and get the 'learn to crochet' kit that boye/lionbrand has, cuz my knitting kit like that was amazing. but theres too much snow right now. so...thanks in advance. =D

this is my first post... i hope its "crafty" enough. i made it from an old journal i painted white, with oil based paint. then i painted it with a photo-emulsion and exposed it under a regular enlarger. i used ortho negatives (i forget the correct terms, but regardless i made new negatives from old negatives using a certain type of film in order to get rid of greys) so they were high contrast, no greys, therefore avoiding any fuzziness/blurriness. then i put the book through regular photo-developing trying not the get the pages wet. i sort of succeeded. the pages are a bit wavey.

i havent written in it bc i dont want to ruin it with my mindless drivel and bc its pictures of an old boyfriend and i kind of cringe when i look at it.

WE had an exchange student from Japan and she gave us fabric covered clam shells. Apparently this is called OMIYAGE and is made with Shibori fabrics.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

altoid tin

hey i just finished this last night. it was an altoid tin, and i sanded it and spraypainted it black, then decoupaged pics that i printed out. i sprayed the pics with an aerosol hairspray to prevent bleeding of the ink. the crappiness shows up a lot more in the pictures, i guess. the macro function really made the modpodge lines and stuf show up...i think it looks nice and homemade in person ;D it's for a boy ♥ and it has his most favourite bands--i think he'll like it for his guitar picks and stuff. thank goodness for an orange tshirt i cut up a while ago...that's what's lining the inside. [for those that are curious, the bands/people = the clash, tom waits, x, world/inferno friendship society, joe strummer, the pogues, the pixies, and his band that just broke up, the banned] i'm adding another coat of mod podge as we speak, er read.

Since a couple people asked for a how-to, and because I couldn't find one online when I was looking, I shall now post behind a cut... How I made 80s style ribbon barrettes )

i made this last year, although it is too small and impractical to use, i think it looks rather cute for displaying earrings :)

Well, I finally got a picture of the candy wreath I made my sister in law. Very tedious work putting it together, but not too hard and fun to do (I think at least). It started out with a ring of 12", which turned into a 14" wreath. It's got a mix of candy on it, and I hand-wrapped each and every one of them in celofane myself. Though my darling hubby was kind enough to cut out the cellofane for me.

Sorry for another marble magnet post, but I thought you all might want to know that the silicone "household glue"/caulking, such as this, available at any hardware store, does not smear ink jet prints! I've heard that other glues commonly used for this project do. I just made the cutest magnets of my kids' faces, which will be great gifts for the grandparents, and I got to do some of favorite fine art pieces and the like. They're lovely! I found the glue very easy to work with and it has no fumes to speak of.

i just finished transfering an image onto a bookcase using charcoal and i was wondering what would be the best way of sealing it since i would hate for somebody to accidentaly rub against it and for it to come off...

thanks in advance!

eta: the bookcase isn't made of real wood, by the way. just a cheap imitation with a wood veneer on top.

i confiscated...ok, took 2 heads from a barbie and ken doll that my students had (they were throwing them around and coloring in ken's eyes anyway, i don't think they miss it)

anywho, i know there's a craft in there somewhere, i'm just not sure where...or what....any ideas oh wonderful crafters?

I'd like to make some marble magnets as Valentine presents.
But I'm wondering what would be the better kind of glue to use to avoid bubbles or the not so clear view.
Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks

i haven't posted here in a long time, but i came across a really cute valentine's idea that i thought someone here may appreciate.

today in one of my classes, we decorated hundreds upon hundreds of pink paper hearts, then taped each one to a plastic fork, and after school some of the kids all went down to the local fire station and stuck them all in the lawn. It was like "Fire Station Heart Attack" or something... but each heart had a cute design on it, or a phrase, or a thank you note... stuff like that. I thought it would be a really cute idea for a significant other, assuming you don't live where it would rain and get soggy before they saw them :-p hehe

for valentine's day weekend, i'm going to be staying at my boyfriends house and on valentine's day, he works from 7 AM - 2PM... that gives me quite a significant window of time to do something cute to his room or something, so does anyone have any ideas?
[identity profile] oh-justwait.livejournal.com
okay. i have a few questions.
i was reading the faq and i came across those marble magnets and stuff. has anyone ever tried making a bracelet out of those? like, gluing the picture onto the back of the marbles and then somehow putting them together? i think that would be really neat.
also. i have a broken mirror that i salvaged off of a garbage can. do you guys have any experience with that? i saw in the faq about cutting mirrors, etc, but this mirror has been sitting broken on my windowsill for months and i just can't seem to figure out what to do with it. any help would be much appreciated. <3 you guys are so creative.

inspire me. inspire lots of us.
post the pistures of your valentines day cards/crafts in the comments here. it might be nice to see all the ideas at once, eh? i enjoy being overwhelmed.
