Okay this is weird but...how would one go about making a garter. And not one of those bridal ones. I'm thinky a little more sleek and a little less wonky than that. I need one for my take on "the jack" in costume form. Or perhaps pictures of ones would help, cause all i can find are the bridal ones!! RAR!

I was browsing through magazines at work and came across this in a one. The name escapes me now, but it was a article about how to make marble pendants. I thought it sounded easy, so I whipped these up when I came home. They came out nicely actually. I dont think that you would just have to use ribbon.

I love it here, I can't seem to get enough of you PEOPLE!
This site inspired me to go to my local library Knit night.
I tried my best to start a scarf, but for some reason I started with 30 and now I HAVE FIFTY loops on my knitting needle. I can't figure out what I am doing that keeps increasing the amount of loops. My scarf is starting to look like a HALTER TOP. YIIIPES!

Has anyone ever made a pet carrier before??? I saw some in the shops for more money then I can reasonably afford, and got to thinking that maybe I could make it myself, using mainly materials I already have, like old jeans. At least for the outside that is. I've got 2 cats and I already have one plastic carrier, but it's only big enough for the smallest of the two (she's not going to grow anymore, so I don't have to worry about her outgrowing it). However, my male is far too big for it, I had to put him in it once and he was thuroughly miserable in it.
What I'd like is to make one with a zipper openening in the front, and then an opening in the top as well, duffel-style. Please keep in mind, I am a novice sewer, my hubby however does have experience and I have a great mother-in-law who I'm sure would lend me a helping hand should I need it. Does anyone know where I could find a pattern for something like this???
Many thanks for your input.

i've looked in the FAQs and i can't find anything like what i'm looking for. does anyone have/know where i can find a stencil of a gun?

My first crocheted- -ehrm...thing. It started off as a square to learn single-stitch, and ended up something different. I learned to crochet (sorta) 2 nights ago. I love the independence! I can now imagine how those funky hats are made... this was a great learning experience, and I wasn't afraid to experiment.

Cut, inside are pictures and more explanation, though nothing too comprehensive. )

NEW PURSE

i made this purse for my friend Hannah, her birthday's on the 5th. Anyway, she had sent me this bag of random fabric scraps - including a pair of her old cracker jack pajama pants (which i used for the lining) anyway! without further adieu (sp?) ado...

I'm a bit confused with the "no stitch". Am I supposed to slip the stitches over to the right needle without knitting it or what? I really need some clarity. It is the only obstacle to conquer in my next project. Thanks, everyone.

Here are two cards I made last night:
[identity profile] emotionless-13.livejournal.com
I bought the plain canvas tote at Michaels for around 3 dollars. I cut off the straps, and sewed on a hemp strap i made as well. The stencil is from ohmystars.net, printed it out, cut out all the black with an exacto knife making a few alterations as i went along. Making the stencil, and the strap are what took to the longest, around 2 hours together. Im really pleased with how it turned out...

I have a pair of old khaki dockers that are way too big for me and I have been meaning to drop them off at the Goodwill but I was browsing around here and just had an idea to do something quirky with them but I can't decide what!? maybe a skirt or a purse? or a hat!! or just chop em off to capri length?
Can anyone give me some input here?
Any fun, funky suggestions are welcome!

here's my scarf!

can anyone say 'easiest and quickest scarf ever!'?? mehe :D

it was done by finger knitting...i used a strand of pink and a strand of black 'snowflake' wool...and finger knitted them together. i think there are about 8/9 finger knitted strands altogether. they're not joined at all, just bunched together! i love it! :D

For my AP English class, we have 3 projects to complete for our reading of Henry IV: Part One: a paper, a speech memorization and explanation, and an art project of our choosing. Today I decided that since I'm into making jewelry and beading, that I would make an accessory for some of the main characters of the play.

Here is my necklace for Lady Mortimer, the Welsh daughter of Glendower and wife of Mortimer: )

And here's the bracelet for Mistress Quickly, owner of the Boars Head Tavern )

I already know that for Sir John Falstaff, I'm going to make his "grandfather's seal ring", as described in Act III Scene III, but does anyone have an ideas on how to do this? I'm thinking of getting a cheap ring base, adhering a rubber stamp with an F for Falstaff, and painting the whole thing copper. Does it seem like there'd be a better way to do this? I don't know how to weld or anything more complicated than making basic jewelry and painting, really.

If you are reading [livejournal.com profile] knitting you will already have seen this.
But since it would sort of match [livejournal.com profile] jesamine's recently posted scarf.

I have a pair of black nylon Vans with a white vinyl stripe across the sides. Last Spring I painted the white part with Liquitex acrylics (the kind in the tube) and sealed with Modge Podge. By the end of the summer, a lot of the paint chipped off. So now I just want to remove everything and get back to the original white stripe.

I used acetone to remove a great deal of the paint. The stitching is still rainbow colored from the paint, but that's fine with me. My problem is the orange, green, purple, and one of the blue colors won't come totally out. They are very very faded (like a stain). The other colors of paint came out okay.

Next I tossed them in the washer with a great deal of OxyClean and some Tide. This cleaned the thread up a lot more, but the outside stripe on each shoe is still stained.

I thought about just repainting the stripe white, but I really don't want to do that (afraid it will chip again). Any suggesstions on removing my paint stains?

i just made a bracelet for my friend:

made with 5 plastic record cake decorations from Babykakes, 6 x 7mm jumprings, 2 x 3mm jumprings and a lobster claw fastening :)

btw, the colours of the records are plain black, not weirdly tinted as the photo suggests. and the middles of the records are plain bright yellow, red and green...

Hi there, I've been viewing this community forever, but I didn't decide to join until now. For whatever reason, I'm not quite sure. Anyways, after having had exams all week - I had the day off today. I was going through a box of some cardstock and construction paper that I had lying around and I came up with this poster looking thing. I really didn't have a goal I wanted to accomplish, so now I've got a poster, and no ideas on what to use it for. I'm thinking something Valentines related, but it doesn't have to be. (I don't have a SO at the moment, but I've got a few guyfriends who may appreciate something. *shrug* Just thought I'd see if you guys have any ideas. :) Thanks.

I've misplaced my manual grrrrr
And the bobbin is tangling grrrr
And I'm pretty sure I'm threading it wrong grrr
LOL
Does anybody own an Elna 1010 sewing machine and willing to lend me a hand? A pic of the threading? or a scan of the manual page?
thanks!

I ran across this neat little link today:

i have a shirt off ebay that someone is mass producing (i'm assuming it's silkscreened) and i washed it twice (once by hand, the other in the washer and dryer) and worn it three times. last time i wore it, the zipper on my jacket rubbed off some of the ink.

is there anything i can use as a fixative on it without making it stiff as a board and that won't wash off?
[identity profile] ghettobeotch.livejournal.com
Ok I have a question for those who stencil shirts. First, what kind of pain should I use? Second, I have the pic on paper that I want to use, should i cut it out on something and use spray glue to hold it onto the shirt?
Please someone give me a step by step if you can for a tee

i found this delectable top on http://www.virginthreads.com
now, the description says the designer hand painted the red stripes on, so my question is, what sort of paint would one use to achieve this effect?

no puffy paint please.
