I just thought I would let everyone know how we are doing. We are up to (as of this moment) 4368 members, and 1750 entries in the memories. Everything is going so well, and the ideas that are flowing through the community have been wonderful.

I think, even though you all read the user info, that it needs repeating that there is positively no selling/buying/trading in this community. (I would honestly appreciate none of the sly kind where we all know it's a sell post, but I can't really nail it down, either.)

I was thinking of also a gentle reminder that this community is made up of some amazing crafters, and it's about sharing ideas, and instructions. If you are posting your crafts, which we really want to see, please take a moment to write up how you made it, and what you used to create it. Good tutorials are always needed, and if you put up some fantastic directions, with good clear pictures, we will try to put them in the faq/memories. Some of you have done just that, and it's wonderful! So if you see an faq entry that doesn't have much in it, feel free to write that tutorial, you can always email and tell us that you posted it so we are sure to see it.

You guys are a wonderful bunch!

Thank you for making this a wonderful community!

I was doing a little bit of research on the internet, preparing to make myself some DIY falls to wear out clubbing and found the above link to be of help. It's got section on dreads, extensions, falls, etc., as well as extensive links to various other hair related sites. A veritable smorgasboard of creamy DIY hair goodness.

Now I'm thinking I might just do some yarn dreads directly in the hair, instead of falls. I'll post pics here when I get 'em done! In the meantime, hope that link is helpful! Sorry if this is a repost, I didn't see this linked in the memories section.

I'm purchasing a new sewing machine next friday, and I was wondering; what brands are the best? I have a brother sewing machine and i hate it. If you can recommend a specific sewing machine, that'd be appreciated as well. Price isn't that much of an issue; but I'd rather not spend my entire paycheck on it.

Thanks.

Does anyone here ever watch the Brini Maxwell show on the style network? I think it's really fun sometimes. Last night she made a mod tote bag, and she said to look at www.stylenetwork.com for more details and instructons. I went to both the style network site and her personal website, but still can't find any instructions for anything.

Does anyone know where I might find the instructions to make the tote bag?

I'm going to be making an orange bracelet for SI awareness.
I was just curious if anyone had any idea of how to make a simple bracelet incorporating orange and possibly letters or something along the lines?
I want to make it look nice and not like it was done in 5 minutes but I want it kind of simple.

I'm going to A.C Moore today. (I'm in lvoe with that store) so I figured I'd pick up some kind of clasp or anything..to make the bracelet...so can anyone give me some insturctions or ideas? Thanks<3

We've been cleaning the attic here, and found the manual for my mother's old sewing machine (long gone). Before I toss it, I though I'd ask if anyone here happened to need it. It's for a Singer Touch & Sew models 778 and 758. Comment with your email address if you want it and I'll mail it to you free (okay, free in the US - if you're in Bangladesh or something I'd have to ask you to cover the postage!) First come first serve!

I have a question. I'm making one of those no-sew fleece blankets for a demonstration speech and I was wondering if anyone had any interesting tips or anything for me to add in my speech...Anyone?

I had a purse..I guess it would be considered a "kiss closure" you know the two little thingys..sort of 50's ish...anyway...

it ripped...and I was wondering, I took the fabric off, so I just have the metal clasp..how do i get it to stay with the fabric?

It seems like i'd have to insert the fabric into it...but obviously that didn't work, because that's how the bag ripped in the first place....any suggestions? Sorry this is so vague.

this stuff rocks!

just a note to anyone wanting to work with it... count your stiches every row!! and casting on (if your knitting) is the hardest part. and remember to maintain very loose tension.

i'm only a foot in.. so i'll post pics when i'm done.

i'm doing a skinny scarf eleven stitches wide with one skein, how long should i expect it to be?

I'm looking for relatively cheap and quick (as in, can be done by Wednesday) ideas for how to display about a dozen fake greeting cards as part of a design project for my art class. I'll have cards and envelopes, and I'm planning to have cardboard behind them as well that say what categories the cards are in (i.e. sympathy, love, etc.). I'd like to make it look as much like a section of Hallmark-store shelf as possible. Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

hello sailors..
in a dingy old newsagent the other day i found a very tasty treasure- american elle girl and teen vogue imported to the uk *hurrah*- looking at transatlantic stuff has given me new inspiration for craftiness.

anyway, this led me to wonder..
i live in London, England and am slightly obsessed with lovely shiny magazines, aswell as crafts.
would any of you nice americans/australians be willing to EXCHANGE SOME MAGAZINES WITH ME?
I can airmail a range of stuff-

-craft magazines...these are mostly granny orientated, but still cool, especially for crossstitching

-alternative stuff like The Face, Sleazenation etc

-music magazines like NME or some fanzines

-anything else like celebrity trash (heat etc.), or fashion magazines (vogue uk etc.) or teenage girl stuff (J17,elle girl uk)..or comics like the beano. also any newspaper for political viewpoints.

anyway..sorry for this badly written and lenghty post, but please reply if your interested? we can work out details later..

p.s let me know if there is already a community for this- i did try and find one.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on making a cigarette case. My boyfriend is always putting his packs in his back pocket and then squashing them when he sits down. So I was thinking about making something a little more sturdy. I considered an altoid tin, but I don't have any spare ones and it feels like a waste to buy one and dump all the mints. Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks A bunch

Okay, so my friend. . . I don't think she reads this community. . . she really likes LotR.

I'm moving and I want to get her a parting gift. I'm thinking of a hobbit stuffed animal, but I am also thinking that it would be quite hard. . .

anything hobbit. . . fimo? Your ideas, please.

The Devil Hat was from this pattern, and I altered it make the Viking/Valkyrie hat one day when I was feeling really inspired and trapped in my apartment by a huge blizzard.
