I can finally have something to post again! I haven't in so long that I am sure no one remembers me at all. *laughs* No matter, no matter 't all. I have been waiting to make this post because most of it was on its way to [livejournal.com profile] rhiannontherose and her husband as gifts and I didn't want to ruin the surprise, so I had to wait anxiously until I finally received notice that the package had arrived and they had torn it open with much joh. *laughs* Okay, onto the crafts - pictures and a little blurbiness about each - marble pushpins, some crocheting (wrist warmers + elf hat) and a necklace )

I am currently working on crocheting a baby blanket for my significant other's sister. If my blanket turns out anything like the one pictured with the pattern I am following, it's going to be gorgeous. I have high hopes! *laughs* Anyway, Cindy (his sister) is pregnant and due on August 20th. I asked around their family and found that (because of some really unfortunate family dynamics, I think) no one, not even her mother, was planning her a baby shower. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and plan a shower for Cindy (and Paige <- That's the baby. *grin* It's going to be a girl!) because I thought she deserved to have one and that she would really like it. Do any of you have any crafty ideas concerning baby showers? I have never thrown a baby shower before and so would definitely appreciate any advice or suggestions on what food/favors/activities you think would make the shower special. The party is going to be next months, so I am sending out the invites as soon as possible (it's pretty last minute but that can't be helped, if I had known earlier...). I was thinking about buying some chocolate molds and making baby themed chocolates for the favors (since I can make them far in advance and stick them in the freezer, nevermind that I have never made molded chocolates but I think I can do it.) but... I don't know what else I should make to go with them (I would rather make then buy, of course). For food I plan on veggies and dip and a cheese and cracker tray. I also thought about making a veggie pizza - the kind with cream cheese and raw veggies and cheese. And of course, a cake. So far that is all I have got really. Thanks for all the help and being such great peopls. *smile*

i just got a GALLON of castin craft resin for the unbelieveable price of........$15! it was originally like $60!
whoohoo pat catans clearance section!
now i just have to wait for the memories section to work, and get some ice cube trays, and start collecting little doodads to suspend in clear plastic! i'm so excited!
so, they say any non-porous type surface (not plaster, etc) can give you a mold. and i know they use ice cube trays. anyone have any good ideas for shaped molds i can use? don't they make ice cube trays in certain shapes? what else is made of plastic that i can mold things in?

the sad thing is, i also have a tiny tarot deck. but no dremel. but that's way up there on the crafting-to-buy list, along with a toaster oven to melt things. whee crafting!

i spent all of last weekend doing crafty stuff, new projects and FINALLY finishing the ones that were put aside to do the costumes i posted about last time.

so i thought i'd share.....(there's lots of pictures! i'm sorry!)

the first is a card )
then i finished the bulletin boards that i've been working on forever. )

i know everyone makes them, but i had to. my record clock. )

then i finally finished my magnetic paper doll. )
i found these great eyelash thingies and acrylic circles )

then i thought since i was taking pictures of magnets, i'd post some older ones i've done.

fimo cunt magnet (PROBABLY NOT WORKSAFE!) )
beaded stars. )
marble magnets of course, a few button magnets and a lovely flappery girl magnet. )
hope you like them! i've been on a huge magnet kick lately and i'm in the middle of two more magnet projects. amusingly enough, my fortune at dinner tonight was "your magnetic personality will draw people to you".

this weekend i'm busy screenprinting (with emulsion and everything!) and finishing a recycled project for a contest at work, so i'll post those next weekend.

Advice?

Okay, I think the most complicated craft I've ever done is make bracelets, or making a stuffed heart in the fourth grade. I've pretty much forgotten how to sew, but I REALLY am interested in crafts and want to get into it.

Blah blah blah, to the POINT, right? Anyways, I have about 2 hundred books my mother left in my garage about a half year ago and me. I got rid of some of them, but alot of them were too beyond repair to sell. So, I've got alot of them left and I thought I'd do something crafty with them. Some of these books are from the friggin' fifties. God, I'd love to save them but their so beyond repair.

So, I need ideas on what to do with them. I have children's books, educational books, a children's bible (hah, yup, I actually don't mind destorying a bible. -.- Don't hurt me...), some books with comics (like a Dilbert collection I'm lusting to do soemthing with), comedic books (Quotes from Deep Thoughts from SNL), even a "better sex" book! and then there's a golf book I want to especially do something with since Father's Day is coming up and my dad is a golfing freak and I NEVER know what to buy him...so I thought I'd do something with that.

PLEASE help. PLEASE please PLEASE please PLEASE.

[EDIT for clarity] I have both soft and hard back. I was looking more for what to do with the pages than the covers. MAjority of the covers are moth eaten, a bit holy, veeery worn. Some are 40+ years old and have been rotting away in a garage...but I might do a book purse. I already have that idea. Any other suggestiongs?

another customized doll:

not TERRIBLY special, but she's pretty damn cute for being the product of messing around inthe garage... there's a lot of superglue holding her clothes together because she's an oldschool deathrocker. HAHA. she has a septum ring too, but it dosn;'t show too well in the picture.

Well there is a convention comming up in late september called Archon, they have a masquarde ball i believe that saturday night and i'm going to be buying most of my costume (my costume is modeled after the main character in a story i'm writing, she's half vampire and half angel), there is only one part of the costume that i'm going to be making and that's the wings. I'm going to make them life size, and little shorter than me, but not long enough that they'd drag on the floor. I'm going to be using two big pieces of mat board, i'm goign to draw out the wings, cut them out and then i'm going to hot glue red and black feathers onto it. I had come up with an idea, i think it would be cool if i could make the wings expand when i wanted them too... yet i don't know how i could do this, since the memories are MIA i couldn't look there for any ideas. Anyone have suggestions?

I made a necklace the other day, and to attach the clasps to the tiger-wire, I used a crimp bead. Now I have little wire ends hanging from where I crimped it shut.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of them or hide them without the necklace falling apart?
[identity profile] tinfoiledgrrl.livejournal.com
hey guys, sorry to be a bother, but seeing as how the memories are down...i was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a tutorial or something on how to make boxes out of lp covers. thanks for the help!

A question for all of you seasoned seamstresses: Do I need to use silk thread for sewing with silk? I bought this silk bag yesterday that I want to reconstruct into a camisole, but all I have is polyester thread and I remember seeing silk thread at fabric stores before. I'm mostly just going to be doing a couple of hems, I think, so would it be a complete disaster if I used polyester thread?
Thanks for your help!

a month or two ago, someone posted some really cute sleeping masks / eye masks / whatever they're called that she made out of felt. one had a cupcake, and she used black elastic for the strap. i am in HUGE NEED of this post, so if someone could direct me to it, i'd appreciate it. A LOT.

thanks so much. ! <3

I redid the green/white sea glass pendant I made yesterday. I wanted something with less wire that let the lines of color be more obvious.

You can kinda see some of the different whites, especially in the upper left.

Howdy! If you're from New York, you'll recognize the ubiquitous Strand bag. I tried to make mine a little less ubiquitous. Yay for iron-ons! ).

My friend Emily and I (I'm on the left in the pink) have started silkscreening t-shirts with robot hugging. Robots need love, too. ).

Here's a close up of the design. Aforementioned close up ).

not feeling motivated to finish a sculpt I'm working on now....so I thought I'd do my first post here, after watching for awhile. I'm not quite as crafty as you guys.....mostly I do sculpts and practical models for films/games....but you all do amazing work, and I hope you also like mine!

Long time watcher, first time poster.

I noticed someone else made one of these, but this is mine. I made a cigar box purse recently. For my Humanities class we needed to make a gift for someone and included something about them in it. I got the idea to make one of these purses, and include her favorite painting - Starry Starry Night.

I'm not too happy with it, but then again, I'm a perfectionist.

since eleven this morning i have been looking for patterns for clothing. everything from skirts, underoos, men, women, to what the hell ever i want. the problem is, after all the searches i've done, i can't find one decent site that has a collective of free patterns. if anyone has access to those damned subscription sites, or a collection of patterns themselves, please share!
love,

My ex-uncle's father (how's that for a relation!) made these whirligigs years ago. They were sitting in a shed rotting away so I cleaned them up and painted them to give them new life. :) I'm pleased with how they turned out. I've got one left to paint.

someone posted this following shawl here and was looking for a pattern. it's definitely crocheted, i can tell, but i was wondering if anyone had a pattern for it or similar?

My neighbor's daughter had her high school graduation party today. I had no idea what to get her, so I asked another neighbor who told me that she likes butterflies and that her favorite color is purple. (Aren't you glad I didn't post a "What kind of graduation gift would be good for a teenage girl who likes butterflies and the color purple?" thread? :) ) I did some shopping and couldn't come up with anything, and finally decided "Hey, I've got a sewing machine, I'll make her a quilt. It's big enough for a twin sized bed, and big enough to curl up on the couch with whle watching a movie or something.

She loved it, and all of the people there loved it, and I think that I am going to be making a lot more at Christmas.
