Behind the cut are some things I've been working on. I started with beer bottle caps but have now started with some old soda caps I got recently. I'm thinking about taking some of these to this funky artsy place in Atlanta and selling them using their cosignemtn system. I figure if people in this store are buying the cigar boxes with Xena on them that don't even close, they'd maybe buy some mexican inspired bottle cap frames and mirrors.

I'm looking to buy a sewing machine for crafty stuff-- I have an old Singer and it's on its last legs. I'd like to buy new and not used. Any suggestions? I'm looking at the Singer 6038 (excellent reviews on Amazon), and the Kenmore 16221. Requirements: must have a hem stitch, must cost about $150. I know that Singer doesn't have the best reputation anymore, but some people whine about aluminum needles for knitting so I know it can just be user preference as well. So. Tell me what YOU use and any tips you might have (since I can't get into memories...)...

Thanks guys :D

I'm thinking of making felted wool cd cases, just little pockets with a flap and a closure of some kind, probably velcro. The cd would be inside a cardstock folder inside, so it wouldn't come in direct contact with the wool. Does anyone know if the wool could still harm the cd in any way? Would it build up a static charge or something? Maybe cotton would be better?

Follow-up question: These would be sent out to prospective employers with some work samples on the cds. I'm still deciding if that's a dumb idea, since my job doesn't have anything to do with knitting, but it might set me apart from other applicants. The question is, do you think it would set me apart in a good way (Hey, this girl's creative, let's hire her) or a bad way (This weirdo sent a cd cozy)?

Thanks for any advice or opinions.

i was bored and had more important things to do last night, but i made this instead:

if i make another like this i'll have to make the buildings on fire and flames shooting out of his mouth, he's a bubble blower, thats what that thing is in front of his head. i'll need to get orange glitter for that.

its hanging in my kitchen, i'm working on having a retro sci-fi theme going. : )

This is the invite that I made for my sister's baby shower that I'm throwing for her the end of July. You can't tell the colors because my webcam sucks... but it's a textured, light blue paper called "prince" (which seemed befitting of a baby shower for a boy) and it has a lattice patterned vellum on top, held together with a silver star brad.

Total cost - $11.60 for enough to make 24 invites, 26 if I'm careful and don't screw up my extra "test" pieces.

ok so my baby brother is turning one this week and we're having a party at the house for him...

the theme is "elmo" because mateo loves elmo but i REFUSE to let my brother have some cliche party city decorations. so any ideas? i'm already making a balloon arch for the doorway but i cant think of anything else. its not going to be a formal thing- more like people sitting wherever they want maybe in the backyard? and i think we're barbequeing. but still. hes perfect and deserves great decorations.

also: i attempted to cut a record today and failed. MISERABLY. after i picked up the shards of the record and threw them away ( west side story too! *sob* ) i decided i needed help from someone who knows what they're doing. n please dont suggest xacto- those things are like my kryptonite- for some reason i'm heinous with them.

oh and here- for inspiration on the decoration thing- heres some pictures

Where can I find nice smelling essential oils/scents for my candles and soaps? I bought a few at the craft store and they smell bad. I think I may have one or two decent scents. I went to this little boutique in South Florida while I was vacationing there, and there was a home made soap section. Who ever made them had wonderful scents like 'waffle cone', 'sea breeze', among other interesting and delightful scents.

Im also thinking about getting into soap making. Is it pricey? Are there some links out there that any of you may like to offer?

Any extra tips on making candles and soaps would be appreciated too :)

You all are so wonderful! :)

If you need to get to the memories for craftgrrl before Livejournal has them available again, you can view what google has cached. The link is here. If the link doesn't work, just type in the URL for craftgrrl's memories, and hit "Cached". It'll show you what it has saved in the past. So you can view at least most of what has been added to memories. :)

Hope it helps. I've been browsing the memories all day.

Edit: I forgot to mention that once you have a list of catagories, you have to search for each individual one to get the cached version. Adhesives, for instance, is here: http://216.239.57.104/search?q=cache:6m2cxKs0R6YJ:www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml%3Fuser%3Dcraftgrrl%26keyword%3Dadhesives%26filter%3Dall+&hl=en

So if you have a question, try there first :D

I'm certain something like this is in the memories, but seeing as I can't access the memories right now I'll ahead and lay it on y'all:

So I have this vision of making Billie Holiday's face in a collage/mosaic form. I've thought of the obvious itty-bitty-pieces-of-ripped-up-magazines, as well as gluing layers of different-colored felt together, but though maybe a fellow craftgrrl would have a better idea.

Hi everyone, I'm Miriam, 23, from upstate NY. I've done crafty things since I was little, and I think some of my favorites are pressed flowers and quilling. I've started to like embroidery again, & I want to learn how to cross stitch. However, my post which brings me from a lurker to a poster revolves around a need for ideas. I'm going to an anime convention with my boyfriend & friends from college, Otakon in Baltimore. I really liked the whole Cosplay idea, & my boyfriend loves Alice in Wonderland. There's an anime version of Alice, called Miyuki-chan, & I think I want to make a costume from one of those characters. What I had in mind was making a card outfit, only using playing cards to form the skirt. I *think* this would require some type of lacing (black plastic maybe?) and a lot of decks of cards & a hole punch. But, how do I get a waistband on it? Does anyone have any better ideas? Thanks!

My mom's surprise party was Thursday. For decorations I had some photographs of her blown up to 16x20 and 8x10 at kinkos and mounted them on black foam board.

I'm horrible at cutting things straight so some of them are trimmed out with seashells

You can see them all along the wall in my living room.

Wow, how happy this little dress thing made me.

I'm Nufar, from Israel. I’m a long time lurker, always reading and watching all those amazingly special things you all make. Time for a post of my own, at last!

You know what the problem is? I spend WAY too much time just reading about crafts, instead of making them. Now, to the actual post. Be warned: Horrible exhaustion= Much illiterate-ness and me babbling useless information.

I had the sudden urge to make a skirt today. I get that a lot, I just never make anything (yes, watching talented people is much better!)
And then, I had no fabric. It made me itch.
So I went down to the basement, and tried digging in my mother's cupboard in the hopes of finding some lovely fabric that was hiding from me before. None was found, but I took anything I could tolerate, anyway. I wanted to learn sewing!

I found this pretty ugly old vintage fabric, it's sheer and drapey. Then, I decided to actually be SPONTANEUS for a change *gaspshockfallsover* and just.... whipped this up! I never improvise, and that’s probably the reason I never make anything. Diving in headfirst is not something I do. And that’s bad.

THIS is my first ever project. Enjoy!

here it is! )

Too bad it's made out of this fabric. =( Ah, I think I'll just give it to a friend, or use it as a pattern.
The latter might prove to be quite difficult, though, as I have absolutely no idea HOW I made this. It just... happened. xp

And yes, it does make me squee. I am SO proud of this is my first project! ^^

please forgive the poor wording of this post. wording? Is that even the right word? I am extremely tired, and felt the urge to brag, regardless of results. Yes, I know I sound illiterate. No, I don't always sound like that. And I don't always babble so much. Only when extremely tired.

x-posted.

Does anyone know where I can buy some Pucci style fabric? It doesn't have to be silk, although it'd be nice.
