I went to my neighborhood fabric shop today to get some ribbon. They sell clear vinly for about 4 dollars a yard. I've been wanting to experiment with vinyl, but I was wondering, is this price expensive compared to a craft chain like Joannes?

comments would be much appreciated!!

I'm really not pleased with the way this turned out. i didn't think it through too well when I was drawing out the pattern, so it is way too short. I also twisted one of the straps when I put it in, and put the snaps in way too high, so I'm going to have to cut out the lining and redo all of that, hence the little hole in the corner. This is what I've been working on for the past two evenings, though.

My room is a great way to express my craftiness. I spent a year covering every inch of my walls with collage, but grew tired of it quickly and have decided to start a new venture.

What I want to do, is paint all the walls a dark color, purple or blue or even black, then paint on fun shapes and things. What inspired me was Hello Kitty's Hello Calendars. The current one is a little more character-specific, but last year's was all colors, and different things in each color. It was rad.

(Picture of the cover, here.)

So what I was thinking, is either covering the walls in black and doing cute drawings of cherries all over the place, or covering the walls in purple or blue and doing all sorts of cute hello kitty drawings.

Can anyone who has painted their room, or painted something like this, give me some pointers? Or pictures? Or help?? ;)

it's a sachet (you know, the lovely smelly things that you put with your clothes so they smell nice)!

I have a bin 'o' crafts that I keep old scraps and odds & ends in, just incase inspiration strikes. I was digging through it for a seam ripper when I happened to see this Paul Frank shirt (that is not a large) and a bag of potpurri sitting next to each other when a light went off in my head. smelly skunk! smelly potpurri! yay! :D I haven't had time to be crafty so even though this is a small project, I'm definetly beaming.

Okay, I stole a sewing machine from my mom a couple years ago. I can't remember the brand right now, it's tucked away in a closet, but I know it was a pretty decent machine at the time. She only used it maybe a handful of times and since then it was sitting in the basement. It must be at least 10 years old, if not older. I have no reason to think that it wouldn't work if I fired it up again.

However, I know *nothing* about sewing machines and I believe I read here or somewhere else once that it's bad to just start using a machine that hasn't been used in awhile. Apparently you are supposed to oil it up first before re-using it. Can anyone confirm this and explain in detail how I should go about conditioning this machine before I use it? I'd hate to try to use it and end up stripping the gears and busting it.

Also, if anyone can suggest a website or a book that would give me a very basic idea of how to work the thing, that would be appreciated. I'm not looking to do anything complex and I don't want to read a 500 page manual...I just want to be able to sew linings for bags I knit...not rocket science. I have no patience for sewing by hand.

I just got back into cross-stitching, and I'm doing a beautiful wolf pattern. The problem is, there are so many different colors involved and I keep getting lost in the pattern and have to go back and take some out and redo them. Does anyone else have this problem? How do you keep up with what you're doing? Maybe I'm just blind...

Oh, and this is my first post here, so, er, hi!

I've been lurking around for the longest but now that I finally have a digital camera (even though it's cheap and low-quality) I can finally show some of my crafts.
Here are some feather earrings I made:

well, here is the tutorial for the tape wallet some of you requested. Of course this wallet could also be made w/ colored duct tape instead of clear packaging tape. Here you go:

Hi! I've been reading this community for awhile, but never really had anything to post, but ALAS! I do now! I went to Michaels yesterday because I was bored, and trying to find something to do, and I decided to buy some little pencil box type boxes and some Mod Podge. Since I had a bunch of collage type paper at home, I came home and made pretty boxes!

I'm very proud of these things.... )

Since I've been obsessed with melting records lately I decided to make my dad (for father's day) and my grandma (for her 80th birthday) melted record clocks. So far I've only finished my dad's clock but I'm impatient and didn't want to wait to post both :P The picture in the middle was taken on the Chesapeake bay really close to where he lives. I printed it out off the comp, glued it on, and painted a couple layers of gloss medium over top of it. The actual working clock bits came from Ben Franklin crafts.
And now for the random song lyrics and cut link;

I just found a cross stitch thing i did for my mum, about a year ago. I haven't really done anymore since, apart from one for my bf for valentine's day. Thats of the same character - Newton!! yay! Go see some more wonderful Newton-ness artwork (not cross stitch): Here

I have to make 2 sea monkey costumes for the Mermaid Parade on Coney Island on Saturday. Does anyone have any creative costume ideas? I'm still not sure if I'm going to go for flesh-toned blob or sea-worthy primate--but I'm leaning towards the latter.

Thanks!

I made this journal//sketch book from an old 25c library book using the tutorial that was recently posted...sort of. I couldnt understand the stitching entirely so I kind of made it up as I went along. Anyway, here are the results:

I made a little bag with [livejournal.com profile] unluckymonkey's yarn! I busted out my dpns (double-pointed needles, for those of you who don't knit) and whipped it up last night.

The colors didn't show up well, which makes me sad, but if you go to her yarn site it's the Stripey Stacy.

I just got a new aol cd in the mail...and its in this really great particle board box-the size of a cd. Its great-has anyone seen them? They are really deep-deep enough for 3 cds...but I do not know what to make with it. I am trying to peel the glossy label off-because underneath its just the particle board...and if I can get all of the label off, I want to do something with it-any ideas? Oh and the label covers the entire exterior of the box and its all glossy so it would be harder to try to spray paint and decoupage like you can with the metal aol tins. Has anyone else gotten one of these boxes? If so, what did you do with yours?
I would take a picture if I had a digital camera.

magic loom

yesterday i got a magic loom at the thrift because i had to see what it was all about.
it has all (4) of its pieces, but the instructions seem a little wonky to me.
there are three different loom sizes and they're just these little metal plates with teeth around the edges. i've attempted to make 2 granny squares so far, and think it's getting better (though crocheting them would be much easier. :P), but i can't figure out why the edges of my granny squares look funny.
it's hard to explain, so i'll just ask if anyone owns one of these silly little magic loom sets and can help me out.

hey girlies!

I bought a really great pink polyurethane tote from target buuut there is only one problem and it's becoming a big one....

It SMELLS!

It smells like I ran over a skunk whenever I wear it... It even smells up the whole basement of our house when I leave it down there. I already tried washing it with soap and water but, no dice. If anyone has any idea how I could de-smell my smelly new love it would be greatly appreciated!

Oh baby

Maternity style summer top for a friend!
She's a hip young mum and the maternity store clothing just ISN'T hot enough basically. So i was drafted in to create something cute but practical....

Made with lightweight pure cotton, this top is one of the best i've made yet. The cotton itself is a pastle turquoise colour (duller than it appears in the picture) and only cost 50p (about $0.70) a yard!
