Duct Tape Wallet
Jul. 10th, 2004 12:20 amSo I dont have pictures...not yet anyway, I finally did something crafty, after wanting to and not knowing what to do or having the right materials. I made my first ever duct tape wallet, and it turned out pretty well. It's made out of hot pink duct tape...It has three "credit card" slots and a ID slot, as well as the usual money slot...but now that I have this great wallet but change needs a new home, since I am now without a change compartment....any suggestions?

Jul. 10th, 2004 10:24 amHere's a little something I did that was inspired by a recent trip to the east coast. Unfortunately, for some reason my scanner makes it look a bit rough.

knitty + sexy?
Jul. 10th, 2004 01:15 pmknitty.com has some interesting patterns on their current issue.
i'm a total beginner knitter but can probably pick it up fairly quickly (i had to re-teach myself the stitches because i had a memory lapse lol.. too much crocheting). would these patterns be too difficult to take on?

soda bottle labels
Jul. 10th, 2004 01:35 pmfor our anniversary, my boyfriend bought me a case of jones soda with our picture on the front. Now i want to save the labels and do something cute and crafty with them. the problem is getting the labels off the glass bottle. i've been trying to peel them off with the help of an x-acto knife, but i have a tendancy of cutting through the label. *boo* does anyone have a better idea of how to remove the label from the bottle without ruining the label?

Jul. 10th, 2004 01:58 pmSo I'm hosting an art sale next Sunday. I'm no painter, sculpter, or collagist (it's totally a word), but I thought I might make a few little crafty things and maybe someone will end up buying them. I'm already planning to maybe make some sweater pillows, light switch covers, this belt I saw on a DIY site, and etch a vase. I have a talent for macrame and have already made a nice selection of hemp jewelry, even though it's not really in style anymore. Anyone have any other ideas for me? That would be way cool. Thanks!

sadly my plans for today fell through and my friend ditched me. but the good news is that i was so bored waiting for him to call me that i made this:
manga comic notebook front and back covers (my camera strap is in the way on this one.. oops :P)
inside front cover
inside back cover
what i used:
1 lum manga comic
1 piece of thin pink ribbon
1 composition notebook
twice as tacky craft glue
scissors
construction paper (for the background on the inside front cover)
i have had 7 issues of lum for a very long time now and i must have read them 10 times each. i figured i could recycle them in a cool crafty way instead of throwing them out.

french tickler
Jul. 10th, 2004 04:13 pmI made a French Tickler cozy (pattern). This is the first knit project I completed and it went by fairly quickly.. I just don't like the top part with the eyelash fur. ; ; It doesn't look as cute as in the photo on knitty.com. Anyway, I had to adjust the pattern since I was using regular worsted weight yarn, and the eyelash yarn is Fun Fur in hot pink.

stamp embossing
Jul. 10th, 2004 04:33 pmI've seen some rubber stamp embossing before, but I've never tried it. Do I need to buy the heat gun, or can you use a hairdryer??? I'll buy one if I have to, but if I can get away without one, I'd love it even more! Thanks for the advice!

Presentation is everything
Jul. 10th, 2004 05:19 pmA friend of mine is having a housewarming party, and it's the first time she's ever lived on her own. She did a registry at Target, and put a lot of little household things that she needed to get that add up when you buy them all— things like saran wrap, trash bags, toilet paper, cleaning products, etc. When she told me about it, I (jokingly) I told her I'd be giving her the prettiest wrapped trash bags she'd ever seen. Well, trash bags were taken, so I couldn't make good on my threat, so instead I made her...
( ...a toilet paper cake! )
You know, like those diaper cakes people give at baby showers. It looks even more fun in person. I threw in a few bottles of Method cleansers. The little flower fan like things are printed paper towels. I had a lot of fun with it. I don't know most of the people who will be going to the party, so I'm going to feel a little bit silly walking in with this monstrosity, but I think it'll be funny.

okay, i have a question for you crafty folks....
i bought a vinyl tablecloth, a cheap one with flannelly backing on it. it's a really cool pattern on it, and i want to make stuff out of it. but i can't get the creases out from the way it was folded in the package!
does anyone know how to get the creases out? i'm scared to iron it, because it's basically plastic. and i tried putting it in the dryer on no heat, but that's not really working either.
please help! it would be perfect, if only i could get the creases out!
and just so this isn't text only- the only duct tape project i've ever finished (the rest always looked so crappy, i gave up).
it's a book cover, and i'm very proud of it.

Duct Tape Purse
Jul. 10th, 2004 10:27 pmMy order of three new colors of duct tape (white, purple, and green) came in the mail recently, so today I made a black and white duct tape purse. I'm extremely proud of it.

The strap is braided duct tape and the closure is a button. And there's a Dawn of the Dead pin on it. I adore zombies, almost as much as I adore duct tape.
yay.
