Joining the new Crafty Lj Ladies Webring.
Jul. 11th, 2004 10:05 amI just want to start by saying that there aren't too many REAL webrings left after this website started taking them over and ruining them. So I'd like to start a real webring because there are tons of crafty gals here. This website is for those wanting to display their DIY crafts. There are sale journals here too which are fine as well. This is an excellent opportunity for all of us little websites to gain some TRAFFIC by being all easily linked together. Together we could create the ultimate set of DIY websites on the internet.
If you would like to join this new and QUICKLY growing webring, please apply here at this following form. http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=exousia;action=addform
What you have to do is post this webring on your website under links, or somewhere on the page and you will be added to the webring. This way people will be able to surf between all of our websites to see our items, buy things, or just to browse all of the artsy stuff we've been doing.
If you have any questions please direct them to comics_candi @ hotmail.com.
dresser question
Jul. 11th, 2004 12:16 pmthe problem is... it's hideous. it's one of those pressboard, came in a box but you put it together yourself in 3 easy steps, office furniture looking dressers. it's brown (fake wood) with dark brown handles.
so.. of course, i want to change that. i just don't know how to go about it. i've done a ( similar ) project but the table that i repainted was made of real wood. i sanded it, primed it, and painted it, then decorated it some more. i don't know if it is even possible to sand a dresser that has a fake wood veneer, is it? and if not, how can i go about changing the ugly face of this piece of furniture? i have thought about:
spray paint
regular paint
decoupage (with nice paper from the stationery store.. but how could i seal it well enough?)
contact paper
anything!! which one of these would you recommend or warn me against? do you have a better suggestion? thanks so much and i will post results when i finish!
---- edit -----
here's a picture of the dresser "please help me not be ugly!"

Jul. 11th, 2004 12:32 pmi made these a couple weeks ago, but just got around to hanging them up. i printed photos i had taken, sealed them with this indoor/outdoor sealer i had (seemed to work well!) and mod podged them to the back of glass plates bought at dollar tree (yay for dollar tree! if you have one in your area, go! i also got the plate hangers there.) one thing i don't like is the bubbley look on the pictures (i think you can see them on the photos behind the cut.) like the mod podge didn't spread evenly. i watered down the mod podge. is their any way to prevent this from happening? maybe use a different type of adhesive? i was thinking maybe puzzle saver? in person, you can't really see the air pockets or whatever they are, but i was thinking of making these for christmas presents and i want them to look a little better than mine.

Duct Tape Wallet Instructions To Print
Jul. 11th, 2004 01:02 pmhttp://www.seanm.ca/duct-tape/wallet.html
There are other projects here at this web site to make as well and what tools you'll need and the best duct tape to use. This was the best web site I found for the beginner (like me).
And from MarthaStewart.com
TECHNIQUE
Making a Duct Tape Wallet
Duct tape (available in various colors)
Magnets
1. Begin by cutting various lengths of duct tape; lay a piece measuring about 10- to 12-inches down on your workspace, sticky side up. Lay a second piece, measuring about half the width of the first, on top, sticky side down. Fold the sticky side over the top.
2. Flip the two pieces over and begin layering strips of duct tape to create a sheet that measures about 3-3/4-inches by 8-1/2 inches. Repeat these steps to make two more sheets, one large and one smaller. The larger sheet will constitute the main wallet pocket, while the smaller will be the side pocket. Fold the smaller sheet in half so it measures approximately 3 inches.
3. To create trim detail on the small pocket, cut a piece of duct tape slightly longer than 4 inches and cut it in half. Place the piece, sticky side up, on one edge of the 4-by-5-1/2 inch small sheet; the tape should overhang by about 1/4-inch. Fold the other side over and repeat on the opposite edge.
4. Cut a piece of duct tape about 9-inches long. Lay the tape, sticky side up, on your workspace. Place the first sheet of tape you made on top of the tape on the table; keep about 1/2-inch showing at the bottom. Lay the main pocket piece on top of the base. Lay the folded, side pocket sheet to the right edge, making sure everything at the bottom is even. Fold the piece of tape on your table up and over the layers.
5. Cut a piece of tape measuring 4-1/2 inches long and cut it in half, lengthwise. Lay the tape sticky side up and lay the wallet on top. Place one magnet at the center edge of the wallet and fold the tape over the edge. Repeat on the opposite side, making sure the magnet is placed in the exact corresponding spot.

Jul. 11th, 2004 01:50 pmthe silver sharpie worked great! it bled a little in the grooves but you could hardly tell. i wrote lyrics around the edge of the inside and outside before i baked it.
i gave it away as a present so i didn't get any pictures but the person just called to tell me that it was the best thing they've ever gotten and one of their friends said they wished they would get stuff like that. i love giving simple things to non-crafty people :)

And as you can see, they have large prints on them.
When I wear them, it feels like I have large pieces of vinyl attached to my chest.
How could I remedy this?
I hope this makes some sort of sense...

Jul. 11th, 2004 03:09 pmI actually have a question:
I have, literally, hundreds of photos of me and friends from various occasions. I don't have enough shelf space to put them in frames, my walls are cluttered with random newspaper articles funtacked up, and my only attempt at scrapbooking went horribly. Does anyone know what I could do with them? Or a way to make a really bad scrapbook better? (I'm not a neat person, can't draw a straight line, can't write my name properly, and it just came out horribly)
Thanks!

Jul. 11th, 2004 05:38 pmMy sister's boyfriends 18th birthday is today. They went away for the weekend and tommorow we are having a little party for him here. I decided to make him a cake for his present. I just don't want a simple round or square cake I wanted something fun. But all the websites I'm finding for making cakes are either for weddings or little kids. He loves football, whill be attending Norwhich this year and playing football, he works at a pool during the day, he's a big red soxs + Pats (patriots) fan, he loves rap,he's 100% irish,he's getting a tatoo tomorow of his family crest and an irish flag/shamrock...I've been trying to combine all the ideas. But I could only come up with a football cake and well..I'd have to do chocolate frosting and I hate chocolate frosting. =) I know its his birthday present but I would like to bake something that I'll eat too,a little chocolate I don't mind but just not the whole cake. Anyone got any ideas or websites to help a girl out?

I wondered if anyone had any ideas on how I could customise the coat so that the duct tape repairs look decorative instead of necessary, or any other ways I could salvage it. It's wearable in itself, it just looks a little shabby.
If anyone has any ideas at all it'd be great! I've always wanted a full-length leather coat, but this one has been the only one that's ever fit me correctly, since I'm only 5'1, but I have large hips, which generally means they're always too long for me, not to mention too big on the shoulders.
Sorry about the question-only post! I'll post some photos of my crafts when my room's sorted out enough for me to be able to find stuff again!

Jul. 11th, 2004 09:25 pmI was wondering what you all use to close your purses? I've been looking for those magnetic type of snaps that are popular in snap-closure purses today, but to no avail.
I don't have any pictures of my pillowcase purses, but I will share a few of my felt ones. They're not very cute and they're not lined, and they're very rough, but I think they deserve to be seen as a learning experience. :)
( ya'll ready for this? )
