I made a rockin' shirt the other day.

My question(s) are thus:

1. I don't smoke, but I've somehow accumulated a ton of empty cigarette cartons. They're just dying to be made into something crafty...what can I do with them? I checked the FAQ and couldn't find anything.

2. I have a lot of buttons on my backpack, and they keep falling off. :( What can I do to keep them on? I know the bandaid-around-the-back trick, but I'd like something less hack-y and more "stylish." Any ideas?

Thanks girls and guys!

ok I JUST started making cigar box purses.. and I realise I am spending a mini FORTUNE on hardware... and hvaing a VERY har dtime finding what I need. I am useing wooden and those 'hardcardboard' boxes...

1.what can i use for a hinge or to reinforce the paper hinge on teh cardboard ones, that i can paint over?

2.clasps..the thing that will hold the box shut. i am having a VERY har dtime finding these, the lil metal ones, most of my stores are sold out.. bah. what else can I use to keep the lid closed?

3. any sites online that sell hardware, ie clasps, hinges. small ones of course for a fairly cheap price?

thank you!

My sister bought the yarn (Caron Wintuk, 100% acrylic, in black & white) on clearance at Michael's for $0.75 each. Crocheted with an I-hook, mostly hdc stitches (with some sc stitches on the features - eyes, ears, etc.), freeform (no pattern), and two days of watching Naruto.. panda hat! :) More photos behind the cut.

Sorry no pics with this entry. Hopefully the content will make up for that.

I have Tourette's Syndrome. Not a severe case, thank goodness, but inconvenient enough. In any case, I've noticed that when I'm working on a craft, the twitches pretty much vanish. Even better, I'm able to focus more than I usually can, due to the ADD tendencies that come bundled into the whole Tourette's package.

So the question here is, how many of you girls use craft, of whatever sort, as a form of therapy? Do you notice much improvement? And for those who don't set out to do so, has crafting given you any therapeutic benefits?

any neat ideas on what to do with old "People" magazines? (or just magizines in general)

The West Memphis Three )

If you want more information you can go to the west Memphis three web site and you can read about the case more in depth, plus find out more information.

My blog is [livejournal.com profile] blogforwm3 and I would appreciate it a lot if you could sponsor me.I plan to donate half the money I receive to Damien Echols defense fund in which funds are greatly needed as last month they were granted permission to go ahead with DNA testing which could clear the boys. The other half to be divided up between the boys for their commissary funds which is a fund they can use to buy food, soda, coffee, envelopes, stamps and other little things that make life just that tiny bit easier.Even if it's just a few dollars I assure you it'll go to a worth cause.I don't put myself behind many causes but this is one I feel strongly about.

To sponsor me go to project-blog.org and register and go to the bloggers list and find Sanna West Memphis Three Fund and follow the steps. You're most welcome to add my blog to your friends list or you can come visit it and keep track of my entries they will all be public.I will be collecting the money the week after the event and the easiest way for you to send me the money is through paypal in which after the event I will contact you and sort out that arrangement.

I just saw a post here about a girl who used cafepress to make her ideal organizer and I guess her post was deleted and I can't remember what her lj username was so if someone could tell me her username it would be great - I need to ask her a couple of questions about her organizer...Thanks!

Hey all,

I'm planning on making a large messenger bag out of beige canvas or heavy cotton, and I'd like to have a big version of this image on the flap:

Now I was wondering of any of you could give me some suggestions on the best way to do this. I have to say I really suck at handpainting so that is not an option.. And I must admit that transfer paper hardy ever gives a beautiful and long lasting result. Tips, anyone?

Thanks!

I don't have the patience to cut out stencils, so I bought some of this stuff at Hobby Lobby

cut for big picture )

Anyone ever used it? If so, how does it work for transferring a design to a tshirt?

i was dissatisfied with walmart's selection of frames. so, i opted for this $2 solid wood beauty, and spruced it up myself...

I apologize for the text only post, but I have a question:

What some crafty ideas for wedding gifts?!?

Just kidding :)

I am planning on getting my cousin a sushi set and sushi cookbook for her wedding. So I was just randomly surfing the web, and I came across this link:

http://www.doublebrush.com/homepage.html

They have sushi shaped candles to display. I thought that would be really cute to make a few sushi candles, but I'm not sure how to go about that. I have basic candlemaking experience, but those look like individual rolled beeswax.

So if anyone has any ideas on how to do something like that, it would be GREATLY appreciated! Thankya.

the mod deleted my entry as it was deemed not craft related but I got so many comments and I can't reply now as the entry doesn't exist so here are the answers to your questions:

- to create the file took me about 6-8 hours not counting the food section, designing the front and back covers of the book took me about 2 hours, putting it up on cafepress and ordering a copy for myself took about 15 minutes :o)
- you can only print b&w inside the book but the outside is full colour
- it costs $4 + $0.05/page, mine was expensive just because it has so many pages in it...if you were just doing a weekly thingie and did not add all the other sections it would only be around $9 + shipping.

I posted the entry in my journal so if you're interested in it you can read it there. I can send one of the weekly pages to anyone that wants it, just not the whole pdf as it is so huge.

p.s.
sorry some don't think this is crafty just because it was made with a computer instead of using felt pen and paper. I only posted the entry because several people asked me to let them know how it worked out the last time I posted in this community.

There was still some yarn left, and my sister said I promised to make her a little bag for her digital camera (&btw, I don't recall making this promise.. but whatever lol). I used the excess black and white yarn to crochet this panda camera cozy. Crocheted with a G hook in hdc stitches, and then a mixture of sl st, sc, and hdc to make all the added parts (eyes, ears, arms, legs, etc). For his little tail on the bag, I made a puffy 1" pom-pom. Started it this morning when we went to visit my dad at the hospital (recovering in surgery) and finished it tonight.

Today, for the first time ever, I stenciled a shirt. I used the freezer paper technique; it worked out perfectly for me. I wanted to start with a pretty simple stencil, because I'm definitely not an artist & I am not too good with the knife, either. I got the poodle stencil from ohmystars. I googled for some hearts <3

I know I smudged it a little, but I think it's quite okay since it's the first one I've ever done :)

Here's my take on the use of a business shirt cuff to make nifty wristbands.

I added some "Bedazzler" pearl spots and sewed on a butterfly applique. I couldn't get a pic of the button side for the life of me, but it's basically the two buttons that close the business shirt.

crappy pics this way! )

Okay, I just got back from art camp, and while I was there we did something, but I can't quite remember exactly how we did it, 'cause I have a bad memory, and my project didn't really come out very well the first time anyway...

The instructor called it transfers, but I don't think it's the kind of transfers in the faq. Like, we'd take pics from magazines, and we'd put gluey stuff on some thick paper, and then lay the pic face down, get it wet, let it dry, and then scrape it off, and there's the image. Does that sound right to anyone? I'm not quite sure if my description is correct. I really wanna do it again, the right way, for future art projects.

Thankies!
