Has anyone here ever made a "casual" slipcover without a pattern? I am thinking of doing so. I have an idea in my mind of how it should be, but I want to make sure I'm on the right track. Also, I'm having some difficulty visualizing the pattern for the arms.

I have been putting this project off because we don't have a sewing machine, but it occurred to me that I should be able to use fabric glue instead. How durable is that stuff? Am I right in thinking that I'll get a better bond if I use a highly textured fabric?

Thanks in advance.

does anyone here sell their stuff online? I'd really like to see some of the great creations that are available to buy!

Also, just for my own personal curiosity does anyone actually make enough from selling stuff to make it a profit thing and not just a hobby? What I mean by that is I have sold second hand clothes on eBay before and yes I technically made money but after I factored in all the time it took to do the sales I didn't make money at all...I didn't care though as it was fun! And don't worry I have absolutely no time to do crafts for me let alone for other people so I'm not asking because I want to start my own shop, I was just curious as craft sales seems to be a pretty tiny market.

Well, I just joined this community, and I'll post some finished projects soon, but for now all I have is a question.

I work at an art camp for kids and yesterday we did soap carvings. I was wondering is there would be any way to "seal" the soap so that the it wouldn't melt in the water or anything (the project was to make a carving, not to make deformed usable soap, since the soap itself if pretty crudy) Even if the kids don't want to seal theirs, I want mine to be un-soap. Hehehe. Thank you very much in advance, I can't tell you guys how much I love this community.

Hello everybody! I was wondering if any of you have sold your crafts before. I am thinking of selling on e-bay. I have never sold before and just want some advice especially if you have sold on e-bay, like what kind of price did you set (I realize this will depend on the type of merchandise), and did it sell. I am looking for a way to earn extra income and what better way to do it than to sell stuff I enjoy making!! Thanks for your input.

I'm, as they say, a very long time lurker who just joined livejournal, so I figured I should introduce myself and show some of the things I've done recently.

I hope I get this right )

Edit: Alot of people has asked me to email the stencil, so I figured I just as well link directly to it and you can all download it yourself. Just go to: http://www.humperdinck.org/livejournal/ansikte.jpg

I have some of those clear glass craft christmas ornament balls and I want to pour something liquid inside of them. My question is, does any one have any idea how to seal them up water tight? I was thinking of something like canning wax but I really have no idea. Maybe one of you do?

Thanks in advance.

Greetings Craftgrrls (and boys),

I wanted to inform you of some changes to the moderators of our community.

[livejournal.com profile] heresyoftruth is taking a sabbatical right now. She plans to return to the community in the future, possibly in a more limited capacity. I hope she returns to us, as she ROCKS!

For the time being, I'm going to be the head mod.

I've just added the lovely [livejournal.com profile] balamuthia as a mod, and I think that she'll be a wonderful addition to our community administrators. Please give her a warm welcome.

I'll be looking to add someone else in the next few months as well, and I have my eye on a couple of people already. We're hoping that before the busy holiday season, we'll have four active mods, which should help the community to run smoothly.

I'd also like to apologize for all of the recent crap on the community. We seem to have attracted a few trolls. Most of our members are wonderful, but even just one person can cause a lot of problems. Negative behavior will not be tolerated. I've been loathe to ban people lightly, but we have 5,277 members, which makes us one of the largest (and IMHO, best) communities on LJ, and I'm of the opinion that if one member is causing problems, we're really not lacking in the cool people department, and I'm probably going to be a touch more free with banning.

Even with multiple mods, this is a high traffic community, and we may not catch everything. If you notice a problem, please contact me right away. I can be reached at cora at ridleyfamily dot org, and that address is on our community user info. If you wish to comment regarding a problem post or comment, feel free, but please don't egg on the trolls. Keep your comments constructive and polite. It is possible to speak out about problems in a constructive, non-inflammatory manner, and I'd really appreciate your help in keeping this community awesome.

Happy crafting!
- Cora.

fishbowl

I had an idea last night to print and laminate some photos of goldfish and have them in a fishbowl so it looks like there are real fish in the bowl. I can't work out how to make the "fish" stay underwater and stand up vertically, so they're not floating on top of the water (deadfish). Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

Made these the other night. Half as a birthday present to myself, and half as a way to prove that I haven't lost motivation. I've been designing a ton on paper, but haven't dug around in my beads for a week or two. I've still got it!

This week will be great for me, craft-wise. Going to spend lots of time at home, beading and planning new designs. w00t. ;)

Sorry about the bad picture quality. Webcam :)

i know i've seen these talked about everywhere, but i can't find any information in the memories. i'm looking for instructinos for those fabric pillows filled with rice or whatever else. i know how very descriptive is, but i'm sure you ladies know what i'm talking about.

i've read that the rice smells sometimes, and that there is a better filler, but i can't recall what it is. also, any recommendations for a scent to add?

thanks so much.

Hey guys! I don't believe I've ever posted here before, but I need your crafty help majorly!!

A while back I started making doggie necklaces. Sounds silly, but after seeing how much the darn things were going for on Ebay, I decided I could make some equally as pretty or even better. And I did. I planned on using Ebay to start my little "store." Although, as soon as I was whipping up some really gorgeous collars, my camera decided to die :/. I made a few after that, but it has pretty much come to a stop.

Well.. A few weeks ago my mom and I went down to Hampden, MD to walk around the main street because they have all KINDS of fabulous little boutiques. One of which happens to be a cool doggie store, called Chow, Baby! with a wonderfully nice owner who took the time to talk to me about my new doggie (she loves Bostons! she got excited and took her BT calendar off the wall for me to look at, hehe).

Anyways, my mom was in there a few days ago and was talking to her for a while.. She mentioned the necklaces I had been making and how I was disappointed that my camera broke so I couldn't sell them now. She immediately asked my mom if she thought I'd be interesting in working up a consignment deal and have her sell them in her shop! My mom mentioned that I don't really know what I'm doing, and the lady said she would take the time to look at some samples with me and help come up with some basic sizes I should make and prices. She was encouraging too! Saying things like "oh, don't worry- you wouldn't believe how much $$ people spend on their pets" and things.

Of course I am extatic to hear this! Now the problem is.. If I am going to be selling these things, I think I should have some website or something so that when people buy them, they can have an opportunity to contact me, see other designs I have for sale in case they wanted another one.. things like that. In order to do so I need to come up with a name for this little business adventure! Considering I have a tough time even thinking of usernames online, this is incredibly difficult for me!

My Sheltie of 12 years who recently passed was named Cricket, so I'd kind of like to incorporate her name into it, but I'm having trouble with that. That's pretty much the only idea I have so far, but please, suggestions would be SO MUCH appreciated!! I also need help with a logo, so if any of you are feeling bored/creative, feel free to make me some samples!

Thanks in advance, guys.

what could you do with dollhouse accessories or other miniatures? i think there is so much crafty potential with them, but i can't think of anything that good. i'm very into "functional art," so i'm trying to think of ways to use miniatures, but i just can't seem to come up with anything!

i really really really love these picture frames:

BUT, most of my existing pictures are cut down/what if they don't fit (most of my pictures are vertical)...

so i was wondering if there is any way to either find little plastic frames and put them all together myself (what sort of glue would i use, etc? i assume i can find plastic frames of various sizes at walmart) or any other cheaper idea of hwo to arrange photos like that and have them protected somehow...

OKAY, HERE WE GO. I AM MAKING THIS SCRAPBOOK THING FOR A FRIEND OF MINE, RIGHT? [eh and his g.f. broke up, she broke his heart, so it is my job as his "wife"(we are such nerds) to make him feel loved and cared for.] I NEED A TITLE. I KNOW YOU HAVE IDEAS. I WOULD LOVE IF YOU WOULD SHARE THEM.

Greetings! New girl here. I found this community through the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] devrat. I've been checking it regularly for the past two weeks and just decided to bite the bullet and join.

Anyway, I could use help with something. I bought a plain black bucket hat from Target for $3. I want to make it more interesting, but how? Buttons? Patches? Ribbons? I'm an absolute klutz at using fabric paint, so stencils aren't an option.

Ideas? I'm wearing this hat to the Curiosa music festival in a week. Long live Robert Smith!

I'm doing our bathroom in our new apartment in pin-up girls, so today I started working on some crafty stuff for it. I decoupaged a tissue cover and a switchplate cover.

Take a look! )

This is a doll I've made for my sister's wedding. It was inspired by some of the beautiful work I've seen online.

Hi all, just wanted to share my latest project. It was only my second collage/decopauge attempt, but I liked it a lot better than my first one! It is an IKEA mirror with a large wooden frame that I covered. The comics are 1970s erotic French comics that I picked up at a flea market for almost nothing.

I used wallpaper paste to adhere the images to the frame - and it made a *huge* difference from the decoupage medium I'd used on my first project (it was nearly identical to mod podge). I also used a spray varnish this time, instead of a liquid, so there are no brush marks anywhere and it gives a much more "natural" feel to it.

[identity profile] wannaseestars.livejournal.com
I decoupaged this wooden box awhile ago with tissue paper and imitation Mod-Podge (mix of glue & water). Well, the end prodct on the one side wasn't exactly what I had hoped for.

So far I've tried using plain water and exacto knife and tonight I tried water w/fabric softener and a knife (mom suggested it, since its supposed to take up wallpaper). They've worked some what, they've gotten some parts up..but others dont seem to be coming up.

Whats the solution?

Right now it looks as if the wooden box might get ruined because it didnt have a finish on it when I bought it, it was just a bare wood box.

HELP PLEASE!
