Some friends who just moved are giving me their very ratty love-seat. I was planning on spending $200 on a new loveseat, so I'm going to extend that budget to refinishing the old one. If I was going to re-upholster, $200 could buy some BEAUTIFUL fabric!

What I would love to do is re-upholster it. I have never done this before - does anyone have any experience? Or a good tutorial (either a book or a website)?

Any reccomendations on other things I could do that wouldn't be too drastic, like making slipcover or something else I'm not thinking off?

I was wondering if anyone knew how to make a sweatshirt somewhat like this one? But with a vintage shirt from the local thirft store. Would it work to just cut the neck with scissors? or would I have to position the cutting properly so it sits right, and sew it? I'm sure most of you know what I am talking about. I've seen them in a bunch of stores, but really cant see myself paying $40.00 for an old sweat shirt with a cool neck. Thanks.

I was just flipping through the current issue of ReadyMade and came across a bowl made out of partially melted army men. How would one go about doing this? My idea would be to arrange the army guys inside of an ovenproof bowl then carefully melt at low heat. But will they stick to the bowl? Maybe grease it first? Anyone?

Question! Yesterday I got back from a trip to Maryland, and I have a bag full of seashells to prove it. But what should I do with them? I was thinking of making earrings or some kind of sculpture with shells and wire, but I don't know. Any ideas?

so i was in Urban Outfitters the other day and saw these pillows: http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=4427&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=336&iSubCat=296&iProductID=4427

they're so, so squishy and fun to play with and if i could, i'd make 50 of them and fill a room and play there for weeks on end.

but HOW?? the site says it's just nylon filled with regular ol' polystyrene, but if you've been there and hugged one of these things, you know it has to be more than that.

suggestions?

First of all; thanks to everyone who commented on my last post! You were all so nice and inspiring!

Some of you wanted me to make a tutorial on how to make a kitty tube. I've tried to do one hope this makes any sense at all )

Ok, I've got another question for you guys.

warning, big pics inside )

I'm moving into my new room next week or so and my decorating-mad mum and I have come up with a themed room.

I was thinking of doing a magickal witchy theme...not Harry Potter-witchy but not scary-witchy either. As I'm most likely going to do some ritual work in there as well it will be rather appropiate. :)

The room isn't too big, and while I have the room to myself, I do share the apartment with 2 other people - it's a rental. So I don't think I can get too crazy with paint or anything major. Also, I have to take storange into consideration because I have way too much stuff and not a lot of space to keep it in!

Here are some ideas that we've come up with :

* A bed that looks like a flying carpet - either through transparent blocks (if they exist) or getting a loft bed and somehow making its supports look like it's flying

* A cauldron that doubles as storage

* A side table altar (I have something like this at my house - my side table became an altar thanks to a tablecloth my mum made, it was of a celestial design and had borders corresponding elements.)

* Glitter stars painted on the wall, and glow-in-the-dark stars too

* Some more star-themed stuff (I'm a bit obsessed with stars... :P)

Any other ideas? Any websites? I'd love to hear them :D

(Mods, feel free to add in memories if you wish :D)

A cornish pixie..http://www.gfxbank.com/is.php?i=20521&img=DSC02430.jpg

I designed the pattern all on my own just by looking at a drawing. My husband thinks it is creepy but says if we had a hundred of them around the livingroom taking stuff it would be funny. Oh and I sewed a coke tab to his back so I could hang him on the wall so he looks as if he is "flying." He took me less time than some of the other dolls cause the most time consuming part is making tiny clothes. Hope you like him!

Hey everyone, here is both the food and the week, they should be on facing pages so that the week is spread across two pages, not on the front and back of one page.

cheers!

p.s. these are for personal use, please don't use these to make things to sell as they took me a very long time to make.

I made the mistake of double-knitting it, but hey, I didn't know I was gonna add lining. I made this for my friend in homage of her new-ish robot tattoo. Never made anything like this so, there you go.

Hey crafty kids! I am in need of some advice regarding a temporary window mural (like the kinds that are found seasonally at certain businesses). I've been asked to do a mural for the business of a friend of my mother's, one window is glass and the other is plastic. I was told that acrylic paints would be the best to use, but I'm not sure if there is a particular brand that would be better than others. I'm also not sure of how to remove it once the season is over, since she wants a summer theme. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

help?

The boyfriend and I moved into an apartment, but there is no way for our cat to get in and out of the place (stairs are inside the apt.). So I gave my kitty away to one of my lonely friends. In the process of transferring her to the car, she went berserk and ripped my one day-new sundress. How would I be able to mend this?

I was on a sewing spree this weekend.
I ended up making 6 new wristcuffs, but i only took pictures of two. (the other ones got packaged up to be sent out to consignment shops. sorry!)

The only difference between the ones i'm posting today and the ones i posted on saturday are the snap buttons. On these ones, i used see-through nylon snap buttons instead of the traditional silver-toned snaps.

i hope you like them!

sew me. )

Perhaps you could help me? My mom used to have a big tin of loose buttons, things she collected over the years. I looked through them for the first time in 7 some years last night, and found the following button, one I used to really like -- I remember there being two or three. Can any of you wonderful people think of someplace I can get similar buttons?

(If I need to put those under a cut, tell me and I'll do so.) :D

Thanks a million!

I made a hat last night while talking to The Boy on the internet.
The pictures are crappy...but deal with it..heh.
My cat helped model it...
ENJOY!!!! )
This is the true color of the hat: http://www.bernat.com/data/product/sample/sample_16409090421.jpg

This is the true color of the flower: http://www.bernat.com/data/product/sample/sample_16409191713.jpg

I am thinking of making a hat and reversing it...making the flower the pink color and the hat out of the varigated color...

Anyone got any cool hat patterns?
I am looking for one that has a square type box design. This hat isn't as open as I want it too and I saw this hat at Spencer Gifts and it had what looked like square holes in it.

In an attempt to be useful for once, I've made a tutorial of the method I use to make a pattern from an existing garment, for when I'm too lazy to make my own pattern.
