Because of [livejournal.com profile] guavmom's recent post (in the crochet community), I forgot that I didn't share the last hat I crocheted. It was dc'd and tc'd (at times) and I did that mostly so one skein would last the entire hat. Regardless, it was crocheted using Bernat's Galaxy line in the "Saturn" colors. You can't see all of the details of the hat in the pictures but in the right one you can see a bunched up bit of hat which is actually rolled up and secured into place to invoke a more vintage feel.

I'll say no more.

Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] lexscreations post here, I've started [livejournal.com profile] ethicalcrafters. We're hoping to provide soon a great deal of information to help people interested in all sorts of crafts find companies that have ethical practices.

Feel free to stop by, join if you're interested, and certainly promote away (politely)!

(Hope I didn't offend anyone by promoting here, that's definitely not my intent! I checked the rules, didn't see anything, but if the mods wish I'll quite understand if they remove this.)

I have to personalize these 2 tags for my uncle-in-law's 50th birthday. I don't know him that well (he's not so talkative) but he has a motorcycle and likes Corona (: His girlfriend is asking that we personalize it with birthday greetings/pictures/something representative of 1954 or meaningful to Tom. Since my hubby has left it up to me because I'm crafty, I need some help as I have come up with a mental block.

Thanks in advance!

The tag is sort of like this one here except blank if that helps.

Thanks for the ideas so far! I've been cutting pics out of magazines like crazy and I'm going to peel a Corona label off a bottle we have in the fridge.

I have been playing with the limited use free version of this drawing/painting program and I have to say it is pretty cool. I can see where it would be especially helpful to someone just learning to draw and also to someone trying to increase their skill at drawing or painting. It's very cool indeed. BTW I am not a rep for them, I just like the program and what it allows you to do, so I thought I would share the link to the free software.

Hey! I've been a member here for almost a year but never took the initiative to take pictures of any of my craftiness. However, this time my craftiness contained my puppy so I had to take a picture of it.

I'm sewing a dog bed for her and I have a question.. so anyone that is good at hand sewing please please take a look at it and then read the question.

Anyone have any good sources for a tutorial on learning to use a drop spindle?

And, as I anticipate having much frustration with the learning process, anyone here want to form a support group?

Hey, I've been watching this community forthe longest time, often getting good ideas and going on crafting crazes, (Marble magnets, mosaics, etc.) but i finally decided to post because i am stumped beyond all reason.
So this semester I decided to not go back to the university I started at last fall. I need to make some kind of gift for my best friend from school, since I will miss her so much come the fall. I have hundreds of pictures of us together and i decided that i wanted to make her a calendar, with each month full of pictures of us together, but since I have a lot more pictures than there are months, I had two ideas, I could either make a huge collage for each month, or what I really wanted to do, but have no idea how to make it, is one of those page a day calendars, the ones you buy in the store and like tear off each day, blah blah. but i have no idea how i could make one of those myself does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks so much for any ideas!

hey, my cousins in the hospital and i want to make him a get well card.. however I am brain dead as to what to put on it. If he were a girl I'd put roses or something girly on it, but I dont know what I should put (picture-wise) on his card. Any suggestions?

cd bowl?

[identity profile] mooneyes25.livejournal.com
is it possible to make a "cd bowl" the same way you make a "record bowl". Just place it on top of a small bowl and stick it in the oven? or is this a bad idea? Any tips if this is possible? Thanks!

Archimedes plush 1

A fleece plush I made based off of my betta, Archimedes. I like his little button eyes, but I think his tail came out too short.

Archimedes plush 2

This is the Archimedes plush all flared and angry at something on the couch.

The following skirt I made was inspired by [livejournal.com profile] poemi & her post.

I used some old board shorts that had a mildly stretchy waistband (the blue stripes), cut the legs seams in the front & sewed it up so it looked like a (very short) skirt. Then I took my strips of cloth (the hot pink) & made them have a slight rufflish charm. I worked from the bottom up so I could see how wide the strips had to be. & I made it slightly off-kilter...because, well...that's just how I work.

Enjoy! (& if you have any questions, feel free to ask)/(sorry the photo isn't too clear)

Hello my lovely craft grrls and boys. I have a question about resin. I looked in the FAQ and didn't see the answer. If I were to suspend 4 leaf clovers in resin, should I press them and dry them first? I know when I do that, they lose their loevly bright green-ness. Is it ok to put fresh picked clovers in resin? Will it get yucky eventually?

Thanks in advance!

Herbs

I want to start an herb window garden in my dorm so I'll always have yummy fresh spices when I cook. Is there anything in particular I should keep in mind and/or is there a gardening community someone can redirect me to?

Also, I found some feathers while out walking today. Now, since the age of 10 or so, I haven't picked up bird feathers because every time I did, my parents were right behind me screaming "EEWWW! Put that down, don't you know how dirty birds are?!??"

So my question is thus:
a) Are birds really that dirty, or is this an urban legend? and
b) If birds are gross, how can I clean the feathers without making them all matted and not-feathery?

Thanks everyone!

I was tired of boring store-bought scrapbook album covers so I made my own.

It's cotton fabric over davey board. It's held together with screw posts (a standard for scrapbooks) and is archival-quality.

I created the embroidery design on my computer, transfered it to my sewing machine, and then appliqued the design on the fabric before constructing the book.

I accidently broke the rules by showing off my crafty website in a community that doesn't like ads. So I'm going to try this again. I worked really hard on my website and it's finally up, yay. Instead of posting a link, I'm just going to show you some of my favorite jewelry.

Pictures below! )

Hello Everyone! Name's Rachel. I've had my sewing machine for about 5 years, and a few weeks ago, I decided to fire it up again. I got some bright pink fabric, along with some chekerboard frabic, and created my first purse! Mind you, I didn't use a tutotrial, or a guide, and it is my first purse.

Got any suggestions for next time? It was alot of fun, and I plan on doing to more. >

i needed to make something for my mom's birthday, and i know that she's been feeling down lately, so in addition to a dq ice cream cake, i tried to make something to cheer her up a bit.
i found an aluminum can, an aol cd, felt, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners and an old picture of my sisters and i, and i went to work.
it turned out looking a bit childish and silly, but she appreciated it, and i think that it'll add something positive to her work day.

Plush Plato

I wasn't happy with how my Archimedes plush came out earlier, so here's my second try on the betta plush design. This is colored after Plato, my lavender-purple betta. I'm much happier with how he looks.

I'll have a tutorial on how to make these up soon.
