Here are some pictures of what I have been working on lately.  The pictures suck, I know...so I took some little picutes of what the yarn really looks like so you can get some form of an idea.
I had to take them in my bathroom and that is why the pictures suck.  I promise...tomorrow..if it is not rainign and wet outside (like it was today) I will take them outside and snap pictures.
Okay, I will shut up now.

Is anyone here from New York City? Is there a "craft" store anywhere around here. Michaels/ Joann/ Hobby lobby type store. Maybe not on the mega type store, but somewhere that sells similar type things. Somewhere I can buy cheap acrylic paint. Theres a difference between craft store and art store.

I made another bag today, it was different because I made it tote-style with the two handles. But I ran into SO much trouble making the handles and I was wondering if anyone knew a good way to make them so they look really neat, I've always had trouble with this, especially the two-sided handles. Ugh.

Its purdy cute! )

(Cross posted to several groups in hopes that someone knows the answer)

I'm going to try and make a few shirts (like 3 or so) with iron-on transfer paper, and it dawned on me that perhaps someone out there would know of a great place to get plain white girls' babydoll tees at an inexpensive price.

A second question would be this - if I can't find a decent place to get the shirts, is there somewhere like CafePress that I can get the shirts made, but without giving up the rights to my artwork?

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know what to do with the "crotch line" markings on a pattern?
If I want to shorten the crotch, should I fold it, cut it, or leave it alone?
I'm not sure what to do.

i have never bought a new sewing machine (always had old ones passed down to me) and i was wondering what some of you Sewing goddesses thought of this one.
thanks!

Black skirt with kimono print panel front I finally got round to fixing the tension on the ancient family sewing machine. Thank you to all who suggested various remedies previously!

Presenting the plain black cotton skirt with kimono fabric (scrap from my bag-making days) as a front panel.

It has a double elastic waistband around the back to keep it from falling to my knees, and will probably save me much embarassment if my stitching sucks and one of the elastic bands decide to burst on me... which in all probabilities will happen.

Definately will be coupled with a plain black top for work tomorrow. =^_^=

Note: Done without pattern or guide.

I've always loved mobiles. It's really hard to find well-crafted ones for adult tastes, however, so I tried to make some of my own from a bit of floral wire and some polymer clay experiments.
The goddesses themselves were made from a stamp by Paula Best that I either stamped directly into the polymer clay and later colored, or I stamped them on shrink plastic, colored and shrunk them before incorporating them with the polymer clay. I didn't have the foresight to make them double-sided, so I backed all of them with decorative papers.

Check out my Goddesses! )

Can anyone point me to the tute for the 10 minute skirt? Someone asked me to send it to them and I can't find it anywhere. And I go to so many sites I'm not even sure which one I saw it on.

Feel free to curse me. I heart you anyway.

Hi everyone. I've been around here for a while, and have finally decided to take the plunge into the world of sewing... but first I need a sewing machine, so Here's my question )
[identity profile] hollydotts.livejournal.com

i've been following the community for a while, and have gotten several useful ideas, but never bothered to post. i do all different crafty things; i pretty much make something if the need arises, i.e. birthdays.

here are some things i made today )

Just inserted some elastic into the top of a cotton skirt, and as I was finishing it off (rolled over and sewn to cover raw edge) the elastic has lost it's stretch! Is this because I sewed into it twice? Why would this happen??

HELP!

I had some felt leftover from something else I was making, so I decided to make my kitty something. I would've put her name on it but its way too long. I stuffed it with some polyfil and some catnip and it says MEOW on it. Here's my kitty and her new toy.

I didn't get anything for my doily at the fair, which is fine by me - I'll try harder next year. ;) But here's the doily I started (exactly) 2 weeks ago, after I finished the fair one.

School is starting soon, and I'm wondering if anyone has good ideas for locker decorating.

So far I've glued fake flowers on my locker mirror and used my trusty sharpies to make borders. I'm also starting to bead a long piece of string so I can decorate my locker door with that :P

Does anyone have some good suggestions?

question -

has anyone here ever made chocolates?

a woman i work with is getting married, and we're having a little celebration on the last day that she works before the wedding. i'm making cupcakes, and i want to decorate them in her wedding colours.

my plan was to make blue chocolate hearts to put in the middle, then sprinkle those little silver balls around them, because her colours are cobalt blue (which i can't even picture, but i was told it's kinda like royal blue, so i'm going with that) and silver.

i've made chocolates before, using the little discs you can buy, and today i bought the heart molds, but i've never tried to dye/tint the chocolate before. is that possible? i saw choclate/candy dye at micheals, but it was kind of pricey, i don't think i'll need that much, and i will never use it again. can i use food colouring instead? will that work?

if not, i suppose i could make white hearts and mix blue food colouring into the icing instead, but i really wanted to make blue hearts!

and just so that this isn't text only - a picture of the cupcakes i made last time i took them into work (they're really the only thing i'm capable of cooking, with cake mix and icing in a can.)

strawberry! )

sorry if you don't think this is crafty, but i do, so i figured others would too.
