Recently someone inquired about ideas for Christmas ornaments. Temari balls make beautiful ornaments and great Christmas gifts -- especially if you can find a pretty silk covered box to put it in.

I snapped a quick pic of some of mine that I put in a bowl on my dining room table:

If you do them for Christmas gifts then just coordinate Christmas colors. The base is a wrapped styrofoam ball. You can slice the ball in half, scoop out a space and put a jingle bell in it before you wrap it with the base color thread so you have a jingly ornament. I've given some as gifts and people can't believe I made it.

They are a bit time consuming, at least some of the more complex patterns.

If anyone is interested, I can post some instruction books that you can find at your local bookstore. Also, you can google "Temari Balls" and there are instructions there, as well.

Every girl should not be without a pair of skeleton hair clips. Especially for Halloween.

They were made from Halloween party favors, with white acrylic paint painted over the grey bones to make them look more skeleton like.

Here are a few things I've done over the past few days. I'd made a larger dog out of regular yarn a few months back (I recently fixed a few things on that one so I may post pictures of it in the next day or two) and I wanted to see what it would look like with the chenille yarn. Then, I wanted to make another animal and a turtle seemed easy enough. He doesn't have legs because I ran out of yarn and I like him with just his shellness.

I had some scraps of old jeans lying around. Since I hate throwing fabric, I decided to make a bag from it. It's made of a whole lot of small pieces, because I didn't have anything that would be big enough by itself.

The straps are left to fray.. partly because I like it that way, but also because my sewing machine refused to sew through 4 layers of denim :p
The Hello Kitty fabric in the lid, was scraps from a skirt I made a long time ago.

The lining is made from a satin top I got for christmas, that didn't fit me.
The closure is the drawstring from that same top, with an elastic to keep it closed. (You just push the elastic up to close it)
I added a fimo bead and a little loop to keep the lid closed.

once again boredom strikes and i heed the call of the duct tape. i attempted something slightly different - as in a non-handbag larger messanger bag type apparatus. still not entirely sure of the results. it is actually red and purple. im not quite sure what my camera has against purples. i suspect a long war between kodak easyshare and the violets of the world...but oh. yes. the bag!

Sorry for text only but School for me starts tommorow and I'm already beyond stressed out. I had to spend all last night in a hospital so I didn't get my crafty things done last nigh, like I anticipated. MY backpack is always plastered with pins, but this year I don't want to go through the hassle of putting all 3 billion of my pins on my bag and hving them fall off.etc. How can I make my bag unique? It has to be very quick and fairly easy. After I can figure out how to make it more crafty I might then put a few pins over that. I was thinking maybe fabric paint? But Thats almost pointless and probably won't work on the material my bag is. So if someone can help a very stressed craft girl...It would be much appreciated and I'll promise to post pictures when I'm done -cute sad face-

I wasn't satisfied with any of the free planner pages I found online so I made my own.

I used one of the pages from Donnayoung.org, which I think is in the memories, and made it better*.

The page is here, if you want to use it. Remember if you're using IE to temporarily disable automatic sizing of images, or else the page will look extremely crappy in your browser. Just save it to disk and open it in your favorite graphics editing program, drop in clipart or other cool graphics (I put Samurai Champloo pictures in the upper right for mine, but removed them for the "public" version because I don't think many people care), and print--making sure to check "scale to fit media" or "fit to page" or other similar option. It should then be able to be folded in half and stuck in a three ring binder.

Enjoy!

*I erased the dates on the calendar and added a grid so it can be used for any month, I added the boxes to write the date for each weekday, and I drew a few lines to delineate days better. Only the basic format of the page is the same as the Donnayoung.org one.

I've tried identifont and whatthefont?! to no avail. Here's hoping someone here can help:

This is the font used in the Martha Stewart Living "Halloween" issue and book. Does anyone have *any* idea what it's called?

I plan on asking on some font communities, but I really figured I'd have better luck here. I'm not asking to be given the font, I'm just wondering if anyone knows who made it and/or where I can buy it!

I found some plain white pillow cases for cheap, and I want to do something to decorate them up. I got to thinking that it would look next to have a line of beads around the edge of the case (not the very edge, but at the seam where it is folded over... get what I mean?). I'm not planning on actually using them, I just want them for decoration for the bed.

Do you think, if I used a tough enough thread, i would work?

hello ladies,

i have a question, i've tried using a stencil on shirts, and i'm no good with them. i'm not extremely skilled with an exacto.

i do enjoy painting, though. soi was wondering if i could water down paint (with or without fabric additive?) to free-hand on a shirt, would it stay? does the paint have to be super thick to stay on? and second, could i use regular ink? i use it al lot for art, but haven't gotten it on any of my clothes to see if it washes off. i have these brands in my possession:

any ideas? thanks for helping :)

I was thinking about making my mom some beaded necklaces and maybe a few earrings, for Christmas.
The only problem is that I've never beaded anything in my life, so I was wondering if anyone had any links to some easy beading tutorials?

I've checked the memories and a few other resources but haven't found a definitive answer: Can you use machine embroidery thread for hand-embroidery? I'm definitely in the emergent stage of my stitching career (but thanks to Jenny Hart, I'm taking to it like a duck to water!) and would appreciate some clarification. Thanks!

I don't know if this has been posted about yet, I'm really too busy to throughly read my friends page in its entirety. I apologize if it has been posted about already

I was reading on Craftster's new Blog that someone is illegally using Jenny Hart's of Sublime Stiching patterns on their clothing. You can read the blog entry here, and on http://www.sublimestitching.com/research.html. You can find out how to help here

I don't really know Jenny but I know she's given some invaluable advice that proves extremely useful while staring my own business.

Keep your eyes open. Thanks

I heard a rumor that someone wanted a tutorial for the Morrissey rosary.

Ask me, I won't say no, how could I? )

Ugh.

Yet another day where a brilliant idea turns to mush. I have good ideas for bags, great fabric, and yet my stitching always seems (ahaha, seams) to kill me! So, today I decided to make a little clutch out of some fabric that was obviously supposed to be used for pajamas and the lining was scrap from another bag.

Cute idea, what a mess! Click... )

and here's another big mistake I made yesterday )

My friend gave me the kick in the ass to make this hat. She mentioned wanting a strawberry hat and I wanted to see if I could do it.
It did not take me very long and I am pleased. I can work in rounds...real rounds....heh.
Yeah..so I hope you all like it.
It was suppose to have a stem, but I didn't like it, so I didn't add one.
And I added the green to the bottom.
*shrugs*
My mom thinks it is cute.

When I get some more red, I am going to make a watermelon one...heh heh
I am going to try other fruits too...like make a whole theme ya know?

I know where to get magnets and whatnot... but where would I be able to get a board that I could dress up bulletin-board style that would be magnetic? I have a keen idea to make someone a magnetic message board. I suppose I could just use a sheet of metal... but that spells a lot of hard work trying to make decorations stick, ya know? Anyone got any other ideas?
