long story short, my friend and i have decided to combine all our baby shower gifts and want to present 'em in a creative way. we've got some ideas, but wonder if you guys have anymore, or any suggestions to amp up the ideas we already got:

1. we were thinking about buying a cheap baby doll crib from a thrift store and putting all the items in that.

2. or, tying all the items together with some pretty ribbon and putting them in a big gift bag. then, we she takes out the first item, say a baby blanket, a package of cloth diapers will follow, then a bottle cleaner, the baby shampoo, then lotion, and so on. (we really like this idea, but are trying to come up with something "baby" related to maybe use to tie the items instead of ribbon.

3. wrapping up each item in seperate small boxes, then putting them all in a big ol' huge box. (we like this idea too, but we'd have to have to get a lot of small boxes and don't know exactly were to get 'em or really have the money to buy any)

thank you, thank you, thank you guys once again!

I searched the memories and can't seem to find what i'm looking for. I think it was in this community that i saw somebody had a book printed and bound through an online service and i'd like to know the url of the company that offers such a service. Any suggestions? I have a bunch of pictures and letters that i'd like to compile into a book.

I wanna make those books with the cut-out centre for hiding stuff in. Except I have no idea whether I should cut-first-glue-after or glue-first-cut-after. Or is there a better way to do this? Anyone done this before?

Lurker; first time poster. I finally found something fun to do with all the electronic equipment I've been collecting. Took it all apart and created art dolls.

i made a purse! i found this fabulous fabric at walmart for $1 a yard. the only downside is that the fabric is kind of a tough canvas so i thought it wouldnt be as floppy as it is. it's floppy. i didn't use any kind of interfacing. i was going to make it a square shape but then i started playing around with the bottom and made it kind of.. not square. hm. here goes.

my friend is having twins (we're not sure of the genders yet) in march! i'm starting early on gifts because i take forever on craft projects and also because there are quite a few things i want to make (all of which will be posted, of course).

i had several thoughts on what i wanted to make: the hooded towels i previously posted about, tie-dyed onesies, onesies with fun 80s iron-ons, and washcloth puppets.

but i was wondering if anyone had any ideas for things specific to twins? i don't want identical gifts (because i don't believe in dressing them the same) but complimentary gifts would be cool, if that makes sense.

feel free to suggest boy gifts, girl gifts, or boy/girl gifts!

Title: Raging Inferno Scarf
Inspiration: Nanook!
Reason: Believe it or not, I needed another scarf. One that was a bit smaller and fluffier and brighter...ok maybe I really didn't need another one...
Comments: I went to Art Fibers in San Francisco and after being thoroughly overwhelmed with the selection, I found myself thinking that I had better come up with a project because the yarn budget is not large enough to justify skeins and skeins of cool yarn. I kept coming back to this yarn - it is so soft and fluffy and not made out of wool (too itchy for a scarf). I decided it would make the perfect scarf and make my hair look like it is on fire! It was pretty fast knitting, even though the fuzziness encouraged increases and dropped stitches, it worked out in the end.

i remember reading on here a couple of weeks back that someone was planning to make jewellery out of pills.

i have a few amoxycillin capsules left over from my tooth saga, and think they'd make mightily pretty earrings... did anyone ever find out a way to coat them so they don't disintegrate at the first sign of moisture?

I know it's a little early for Halloween stuff but what can I say......I'm a Halloween freak.

Anywho I'm planning to turn my bathroom into a crime scene with the bathtub being FULL OF BLOOD (well, not really, just red stuff) and frozen hands and a frozen face mold to make it all creepy and some crime scene tape.

My question is: Will red food coloring stain a white bathtub? It will probably sit in the bathtub for 6 hours. I'm renting and the owners will go apeshit if I leave the bathtub with a red ring around it.

Thanks for your help!

I am new to the community, and while lokoing back, I had found that someone made something called a Squashbook.  I really liked the idea and thought I would give it a try.  Well, here it is!  It took me all day to make, I was so excited to get up this morning and start working on it, and it cost me less than 10$!!

I'd gotten particularly bored and annoyed with taking premade clocks and just directly painting over the face and outsides, so the next best thing I figured was, scrap wood, which I have ... lots of. Unfortunately, I am particularly clumsy and would surely lose a finger or three, or an arm and hand both, were I to attempt cutting this scrap wood into pieces. Here I was with a rectangle piece of wood that I knew I wanted to turn into a clock.

Long story short this )

is how it turned out. I have yet to figure out what to do about numbers or if I'll bother with them at all. All in all it looks a little better than it did when I started.

Ok, so I'm looking for a pattern for an apron...You know, the full body ones, like the ones that say "Kiss The Cook" and stuff...I'm going to make one for my roommate for Christmas, and stencil something on it, but I need a pattern, and I can't really afford to buy one :( If anyone could help, that would be great!

Hello Everyone,
I just have a quick question. I am currently working on an art project where we have to do something in the style of another artist, and to pay homage to my love of crafts, I am trying to find artists who do embroidery (preferably hip) and would have pictures of their work easily accessible. The higher profile they are the better. I already know of Jenny Hart from Sublime Stitching, and I am considering doing something of hers...but the more options I have the better!
Thanks so much for helping!

I recently made a stencil from a picture of my boy and I. Our 2 year anniversary is coming in October and I want to put it on something, something not too cheesy. No teeshirts! I've thought about a pillow, that is boderline cheesy but at least it's more private. Maybe a memory box, or make it instead of a photograph. Please any suggestions on what to put the stencil on!! Thanks in advance.

There is a hurricane in my backyard, however I'm still making shit. Mostly so I don't go insane with worry.

It's cranberry freshwater pearls, rose quartz, crystal quartz chips and sterling silver beads. I need to change the clasp. It's far too heavy for the magnetic clasp.

i bought a skein of bernat galaxy yarn in "mars" at michaels for $2.50 (yay for 50% off coupons!). i just noticed it is only 1.75 ounces (50 grams).

originally i was going to knit up a scarf for practice. i started a few rows and am having no trouble at all (and surprisingly, because i am not that good at knitting, and this yarn is fluffyyyy). however, i doubted if it would be enough yarn for a scarf. so i took apart the few rows i started, measured how much yarn i had used to make about 3 inches, and it turns out i used about 180" of yarn. if i did my math correctly, and i already threw away my paper so i don't recall the exact amount, but that means i will only be able to knit up about 30" worth of a scarf, which is definitely not long enough. this was with 12 or 13 stitches cast on. even if i make it a skinny scarf, it'll only be 60" or so, and very skinny, so i don't think that is a good idea.

or is it?
would 1.75 ounces be enough for a scarf? or should i attempt a different project with this yarn? if someone has a good pattern (knitting, not crochet) for a scarf that doesn't use a lot of yarn, that'd be great. thanks thanks a bunch.
