Question: I read through the memories to find out how to make record journals, but the pictures of the actual things has been deleted, so I'm not entirely sure how one would look. Did anyone make one? (Or at least see the pictures?) Did the person cut the record on 4 sides to make a rectangle? Or just on one side to put a binding in. I think I've got it figured out other than that, so if anyone could tell me I would apprieciate it. :)

Ok so i have finally found an image host so i can show you pictures of the squash book i made as kind of a memoir of the last year, I was going to do a full scrapbook, but discovered that if i wrote that much about him it became nauseating and well boring!
I used this website to help me, and my major problem only came when folding it, but i worked it out on my print paper prototype before i did the real thing! http://www.geocities.com/close2myhrt/squashbook.html

I've made books before but this was less complicated and looks better because ive never been much good at binding.

Finally finished my painting for my nieces - wanted to show it off. I'm covered in paint. On the righthand side is a snake motif measuring tape so they can use it as a height chart, but it's not stuck down yet because I don't know how high it's going to be hung. I'm going to make leaves with their names on it to stick on their heights.

I could have sworn I saw this posted here before, but alas, I cannot find it anywhere in the memories.

We just moved into a new house that has tons of wood trim, and my kitties aren't declawed. My Kanga is constantly scratching on it, and it's gotten so bad I'll need to re-do the trim. Anyways, would anyone have a pattern to make anything that would combat cat scratching? Thanks!

what is the best needle to use when sewing felt on a machine. im trying all different tensions and needles but it just ends up either A. eating up the material or B. not advancing the material.
thanks

Thanks for all of the suggestions on how to do a scrapbook for my dad of all of his newspaper clippings. I found a shop in town that will do it, for not a ton of cash. Now I just have to find some time to lay everything out, and make copies of everything.

For Halloween I decided that I wanted to be a Renaisance looking vampire - well, the vampire thing changed because my mom is going to be over at my place helping pass out candy and she'd freak out if I went and did anything like that, so I'm saving it for next year when she, hopefully, won't be over. So I'm just going with the renaisance look and doing this pattern:

I'm making the gold and white one on the right. My sister is going to help me sew it up since I suck at using patterns and can't possibly make the whole thing myself before Halloween when we're moving next weekend and I'll be busy unpacking probably up until Halloween. I bought this awesome woven looking gold material for the top, and some cream fabric for the bottom (satin for underneath the skirt for the lining so it stays flowy and doesn't look stiff), and some pretty sheer yellowy material for the blouse that goes underneath the bodice of the dress.

I'll post pictures once we start working on it and after its done! I can't wait to make it! Now if only I could come up with more places I could wear it...

Burton ) stickers. Only this time on Avery label/sticker paper instead of reusing old stickers to see if it'd be worth it. Only downside, it seems to curl when dried until you stick it (of course.) Small annoyance.

i want to make an aluminum foil curtain or something similar. the sun shines into my dorm room in the morning and makes it extremely toasty... and i want to not wake up sweating. i need something that will a) make it cooler, and b) be easily opened, because i have a totally awesome view of the monterey bay, so i don't want to just plaster my window with something i can't see through. so i need some sort of blinds, maybe? how ought i to go about making these?

thank you!

It's crochet in rag rug so it stands up. I wound some tulle into the band area to makea bow int he front and veilything in the back. I'm hoping to make a simple red dress to wear it with tomorrow for the Gallery Hop. That might get some people's attention.

I went to Value Village, (if any of you don't know what that is, it's a thrift store in Canada).  I bought an ugly old pair of floppy leg pants.  The pant legs were HUGE.  They were burgandy cuorderoy (sp?).  I then proceeded to murder an old purse.

Looky Looky )

I hate making posts like this, but I'm a little desperate, it does relate to a project I'm working on for Halloween, however awkwardly. :/

Wasn't there someone here a few months back making some sort of chimaera or antlered beast costume, having some sort of trouble with black tool dip for some of the foam add-ons? I'm going through the earlier posts and memories under every possible header I can think of, but I'm having a hard time finding any clues as to where it was or who made it. ._. Thanks.

I dyed the first batch of thread today - about 140 yards.

Thread used: DMC Perle cotton #12 (approx. size 40)
Dye used: Dye-na-flow silk paint (805 scarlet, 803 bright orange, and 802 golden yellow)

Cost: Nine 1/2 oz bottles of dye for $10.79 plus $6.80 shipping (Dharma Trading)

Method: I took an old folding chair (card table chair) outside and tipped it over. I wound the entire ball of thread around 2 legs of the chair. I then used the bottle to drip the dye onto the thread, using a paint brush to help cover the thread evenly. Once it was almost dry, I heat set the dye with a hair dryer set on high.

Ease of use: The bottles have the same sort of tip you'd see on squeeze bottle fabric paints, so it was alot easier than I expected. I barely even got any on my fingers, and what did get on my skin washed off easily with soap and water.

Results: Very happy! The colors are very bright and vivid, and the thread is not stiff, crunchy, or hard from the dye.

A 20 yard hank of the results:

i've made a gift for a friend. it's a decorative glass bottle with colored water in it. i made labels for the front and back and i'm not sure how to attach them. the part of the glass i'd be attaching them to is totally smooth and 90% flat.

the adhesives i have are:
*hot glue gun (which just sounds messy and lumpy)
*good ole elmer's (see above)
*scotch tape
*masking tape

i can buy some other adhesive tomorrow if it's not too expensive and it's easy to find. (i live in a small town)
