Here is my other craft for today. I made these earrings. Sorry that I did these in a different post, but I figured as both posts were so image intensive, I should split it up. I am probibly going to have to edit this one as well, since live journal doesn't want to seem to let me LJ cut easily today.

I'm thinking about making my friend a guitar strap made out of caution tape for his birthday, because his boring black guitar strap is too boring. His birthday is in one week.

The thing is that the caution tape has to be really durable, and I'm not sure how to make the caution tape thicker. I'm thinking about having 2 layers of the caution tape and then in between the layers I'll have ductape. Then, I'll cover the caution tape with clear packaging tape. I don't know if that will be durable enough though..

And also, I don't where to get the little triangular shaped thing that allows the strap to be connected to the guitar. Like the sort-of-triangular-shaped thing on this guitar strap:

Do any of you know where I could get one of those, or do any of you have any ideas on how to improvise and use something else instead of the triangular thing?

Thanks for any ideas!

I kind of forgot I was a member of this community, sorry.

I've got a pair of leather boots I want to dye. I usually use Lady Esquire which is very good, but they don't have the colour I want (dark green) (or any kind of green, or I'd just mix). Dylon has an even smaller selection of colours, so my question is this:

What is leather dye? I know fabric dye is watered down emulsion (take note), someone must know what leather dye is? Acrylic? Plasticote?

I don't want to experiment myself as these boots were PRICEY.

Thanks.

okay - this is a crafty question or more a cry for help. My husband to be and I are getting handfasted next august. We are having the ceremony in a cornfield and our colors are cornflower blue and maize yellow (easy guess huh). Anyway, I want to do the invites by hand on corn husks. Problem is I have no idea how to get big enough husks, how to press them or if this will work and what kind of ink/paint to use. Also any other ideas for a the reception would be great. I am at a loss, we are both very into nature but want somehting nice but still reasonably priced. we are trying ot stick with a cornfield/nature theme but don't want to end up having a farm wedding - more just pretty and natural. Any ideas of any kind are appreciated - I am at a total loss and we want to make a lot of the stuff ourselves.

So, I've been handsewing everything I'm making lately because my sewing machine broke. I'm making this beautiful skirt, and I'd like to add a bit of a ruffle at the bottom. Doing this w/ a machine would be easy peasy, but I don't know how to do it so that it would work out by only using one thread when hand sewing.

Does anybody have previous knowledge of doing this?

I thought that wide, somewhat weak stitches might work, but then I realized it probably wouldn't and that the ruffle would fall right off, and look ugly if it didn't.

Thanks for any help!

Will organza hold dye? If so, which kind is best? Plain ol' Rit?

sort of mock messanger style. convenient flap without the ultra long strap.

shamelessly stuffed with my little ponies to show the flap off a little better.

custom order from a friend. she said "oh i dont know. make it blue...with a daisy. but simple maybe? you decide." i hope it fits her very loose criteria well enough.

Pennants

I was going to make Potter-verse pennants for my friends sons room. I've bought felt and ribbon, but lost the link I had on how to make them. Does anyone out there know how I would go about making a pennant? Specifically, I was thinking I would make at least the Slytherin pennant from CoS, and some of the pro quidditch teams mentioned in the books. Thanks in advance! Xposted in Hogwarts-design

i've been kind of a lurker for a while; trying to change that!
this is sort of a question post. i found these earrings made out of bicycle tire valve cores. theyre really awesome:

so my question is: has anyone seen other crafts/jewelry involving bicycle parts or car/motorcycle parts? i love making crafty stuff, and my boyfriend races motorcycles professionally; i know he would love any sort of craft involving mechanical parts. for instance, those clocks made out of hubcaps are really cool. i'd love to hear ideas for crafts or gifts for those guys in our lives that are mechanically inclined.

and, just for fun, 2 tiny crafts that i've done; no big deal, just simple stuff i'm happy with:
a pair of earrings i made, and a hand-sewn pouch with a little whale )

my mom's ol turtleneck shirt. using another old button-up sleeveles shirt and a piece of pink, flower-printed fabric i got this )

well, i made these earlier this year, but i thought i would share them with you guys.

they are made with legos.
my boyfriend and i did a ton of different nintendo characters with legos.
we took a sprite of a nintendo character on the computer, and put the grid thing on it, so each square on the sprite is represented by a 1x1 lego.

Well I'm going to make some patches to put on some shirts im making. Can you guys give me some ideas for sayings. Also here are some I thought i would use. tell me what you think please

"Dont Label Me" *The font I use resmebles the barcode labels you see at the grocery stores*

"We have Eyes, But Do not See" *I'm going to use a stencil to paint an eye onto the shirt along with the saying*

"As Above So Below" *Im thinking of stenciling it on a shirt along with a tomb stone picture"

These are the things I've made in the past 2 days.
  • I wore the pink earrings today to work, because they are cute...their cuteness is not conveyed in this picture. They have little star charms on each pink beaded strand, with four strands per hook. Pure cuteness.
  • The goddess necklace is something very personal, I found the charm this weekend when wandering around this bead store with my mom. I strung her on sea themed glass seed beads. Her arms were tricky to string, and if you saw her up close it would look like she had a parachute. I used some basic 'how to string a bracelet' instructions to make this.

  • The labrodite bracelet I am most proud of, as the weaving between the larger stones was complex. I didn't use any pattern, I just sort of theorized how I would do it. I had gotten the large stones a month or two ago, on sale because they piece they were strung on was falling apart.

I have one beading book to explain knots and joints, and what sort of pliers are needed for what.
The one annoying thing about beading is that I have to take my glasses off to do it. Even with my most detailed knit and crochet projects I hadn't had to do that.

Oh bother.

So, late this evening (or maybe very early this morning actually)
a friend of mine let me know that friday, she gets married. For
a lack of a better word, I might say they're eloping. As part of
what they will be wearing, we need to make them customized
belts with bottle-caps (one with champagne caps, the other one
with caps from some 40's) How do we go about attaching these to
belts? Please keep in mind:
-Need to finish planning a sort of secret last minute wedding
-Do it all by friday
-Since nobody knows, there's no extra cash flows
(does the rhyming make the question more exciting?)
-have it done as quickly-and-cheaply-by-people-who've-never-done-it as possible
(ooh bad rhyming followed by bad grammar, this is sounding gu-hood)

so, yes, suggestions, anyone?

p.s. (by champagne "caps" I think she means the little metal taps that separate the corks from the wires that hold the corks in place.)

(to be cross-posted anywhere I can think of)

my school's homecoming dance is coming up on the 16th of october and im having a bit of trouble finding shoes to match my dress. It's coral and i know that gold shoes would match perfectly, except the only gold shoes i can find are going for $120 at the least. well, im kinda on a tight budget, so i thought i might go thrift shopping tomorrow, find a pair of cute shoes, and then spray paint them gold. i was curious as to what is the best way to go about painting them and if it will last the whole night or is it gonna rub off on my feet? any help would be very much appreciated. thanks a million in advance!

hey Guys.  I've been waiting a long time to actually post something.  This is hard because A) No digital camera, B) no projects, and C) just plain poor.  However, I finally have something post.  This is a banner I made for the NRHH (National Residence Hall Honorary) Fall Leadership Conference.  We were Greece, so I decided to make the banner as always (being the creative one, why would I let someone else do it?).  I decided I wanted to do a mock Athena Statue.  So with a trip to Wally World for fabric and puffy paint, I made yet another awesome banner (which of couse was ogled all day, lol).  I'm glad to finally post something in this community.  And I hope I have much more in the future (being a Fashion Design major, that should be NO problem!).
