Today was my lucky day. Not only did I get my photographer's job, but my boyfriend surprised me by tellin me to go to the crafts stores and just dump whatever I wanted in the buggy. Is he great or what? I decided to get started on Xmas presents so I bought loads and loads of soap crafting and gel candle making schtuff....Im talkin over $100 bucks worth. Anyhoot, Ive started on the candles. I got some art sand and some shells, along with a strawberry peach scent....smells really REALLY good. Well, now for the question..I had bought a sea scape candle just like the ones Im making now for almost $50...yes, I know...I coulda made me like 5 big ones for that price...this was all pre-crafty me. :o) Ok, so the fish bowl cracked (Its really thin glass) I heard you can re-melt gel over and over as much need be, but it has this really nice dark blue sand in it..and I was thinking if i melted it....it would be like blue snow instead of clear?!?!? Anyone know if Im right? And if I should bother with it or throw the candle I bought away?

okay, so i sewed some extra black velvet to my wings. You can't really tell it from this picture, but it made them look a lot eviller (thanks for the suggestion, whoever you were!). I'm still tweaking it, so it'll probably look even different-er before Halloween.

I didn't take a picture of the front because I didn't have my makeup on and, well, with no makeup I just look kinda silly. But here's the back with the wings and stuff.

Hi!

This is my first post on Craftgrrl though I have been reading and looking at all your amazing creations for a while! You are all SO talented! I have a question about bleach pens, but so it's not a text-only post, I have some pictures of some wool felt needle books I've been making lately (also posted these on craftster)...

So I asked my mom to save soda tabs for me when I saw this. She's a teacher, so it took her a week to gather all these tabs. The results were pretty neat. Shiny things )

My toaster is pretty boring. It's just black; it needs some art on it. I wanted to do flames, but my husband says flames are pretty played-out. What would YOU put on my black toaster? And what would you use to do it (paint types, etc)?

I should be writing a midterm exam, but instead, I'm going to show-off the bag I embroidered. We have a lunch option called "grab and go" (sandwiches and salads and such all packaged up)and they had some canvas bags available for us to take and reuse to save on paper. they are very blah, so this is how I spiced mine up. Hello! I've got two questions.

1. I need a Rolodex-type system for contacts I need at work. I looked at buying a regular Rolodex thing, but they're so expensive. I suppose I could write down all of the contacts on regular index cards and put them in a small box, but I'm looking for something more cute/creative. I'd also like to not have them alphabetized by the person's name, as most people have. Real Rolodex systems are organized alphabetically by last name. In fact, my system won't even really use people's names. I want to organize it by category. Since I work in the non-profit field, I'd like a section for homeless shelters, a section for food banks, a section for clinics, etc. There probably won't be personal contacts, but just the name/address/phone number of the organization. Any ideas on how to make a Rolodex sort of system without using a real Rolodex?

2. I'm going to be spending Christmas with my boyfriend's family in Texas. I live in Seattle. I'm planning on making his sister, mother, and grandmother gift baskets filled with things made in Seattle or Washington state, like tea and jam and whatever else I can find. We have a "Made in Washington" store in downtown Seattle that I plan to get most of the things from. Anyway, it'd be impossible for me to transport three filled gift baskets on an airplane. I suppose I could pack the basket fillings in my suitcase and carry the three baskets, but that would be a serious hassle. Do you have any other ideas on cute ways to wrap the things I'd fill a basket with? I'm thinking baskets won't work because they'll be too hard to transport. I don't want to just wrap the things separately with wrapping paper, though. I dunno, maybe I'll have to. Does anyone have any packaging ideas that will travel easily?

Thank you! :)

First post so far. =X

Since you are all the craftiest guys and dolls around, I figured I'd ask.

I've got CDs, ribbon, colouring utensils, blank paper, and shoeboxes. How would I combine these materials into something fabulous? I intend to have quotations from various Chuck Palahniuk books, and somehow decorate the shoebox.. I'm just not sure of the options. I have a general idea, but any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

more pictures of my pieces... )

These are three pieces of jewelry that I made for one of my classes. The first was hand formed from 20 gauge sterling silver sheet metal, as was the second one. The third is made from 13 gauge sterling wire. I cut and polished each stone from a rough slab, and gave the pieces a high polish to them.

Even though I did these myself, I put around 70+ hours into these, so I wouldn't exactly call them easy DIY. I'm also majoring in Metals at my school so I have access to all the fun hammers and torches and other metalsmithing equipment. I just wanted to share my pieces and maybe inspire someone else if I could. Thank you!

I made my puppy, Ozzy, a Halloween/parade costume.
I love taking him to parades, and if I dress him up cute, he's sure to get lots of doggy biscuits and attention.. But it also doubles as his doggy-halloween costume for this year ^_^

More Ozzy doggie costume pictures! (insert circus music here) )

Hey Everyone...

Since Halloween (orrr should i say...a halloween party that i just found out about) is shortly approaching..(Okay, so it's SATURDAY)... I needed a quick costume... I found an old silk dress that's about 5 sizes too big for me...is there any way to make this smaller without actually cutting it and resewing? Can I just make totally new seams?

Sorry if this doesn't belong here...also any ideas about how to make the dress look more interesting would be greatly appreciated...it's a plain, long red satin "gown"... i was thinking of a crazy neckline or something! Suggestions?
