My parents are so kind that want to buy me a book so they can send it to me and I therefore get post making me seem popular (I go to a boarding school)! So anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows of a really good craft book out there. I already have Retro Revamp by Jennifer Knapp and I would recommend that to anyone who doesn't have it!
Thanks!

Hey everyone! I am putting together an event here in Raleigh called The Rock and Shop Market, to be held Saturday December 4 at the YWCA. I'm currently soliciting musicians and vendors, we are looking for people who make art, zines, fashion accessories, handbags, etc. and of course bands to rock!

Any designers or musicians interested in participating please email me at michelle@smashingmirrors.com

Thank you!

Do any of you have any tips for sewing on feather trim to a handbag? I would like to incorperate this idea into a few of my designs but have no experience with feathers.....
Can it be done on the machine or do i have to hand sew it?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I am starting up a type of craft/diy group in my city Rochester, NY, if any of you live close to the area you can sign up..otherwise I just thought this might be something you would want to start around your area.

This is the e-mail I sent out ..

Alright, I am really pleased with the way this turned out. I still need to hem the bottom and put snaps or buttons on the back, but other than that, it's finished.
This is my daughter's halloween costume. I had some free time yesterday so I finally got it put together. I think I might need to make something to put on her head, but I don't know if she'll even leave something on her head and I don't know if I want to waste my time.

I made myself a new bag yesterday to celebrate the fact that I started my new work today.
It fits my lunchbox and my big daily planner like a dream. I just winged a totebag and made it the way I wanted it to be. Simple and practical.

Thanks for looking!

For Halloween, I would really like to be a retro/mod/60s-70s go go girl. (I'm not even sure if that is the right term, I'm just envisioning something very Austin Powers-esque... bright colors, mod prints, etc) But, being very limited in funds, I would like to either make my outfit from clothes I have, or buy them very cheap somewhere else. Does anyone know what I could wear to get that "look"? And where I could buy the clothes cheaply? And could I make them myself from stuff I already have?

I would like to wear these sunglasses and earrings as well, just because I love them so much.

so i have this friend. his name is fabrice. NOT febreze, a very ocmmon mispronounciation and first impression that he often gets.

"hi, i'm fabrice."
"like febreze?"
"NOOOO"

and it is kinda his...peeve.

so for his birthday, me and a few other smart aleck friends got crafty.

and this is what we did.... )

i would like to make individual bags for halloween candy.
that way i can give a little bag full of candy instead of hadning out pieces of candy.

what would be the cheapest, easiest, fastest way of doing it?:)

I've decided I want to go as a gutterpunk fairy. You know, ripped up prom dress, anarchy symbols painted on my wings, etc.

Here's the issue: The prom dress I want is strapless. I live in Madison, Wisconsin. The temperature on Halloween Night is usually below freezing. As I want to draw cheap-looking tattoos all up and down both arms, I'm trying to come up with a way that could keep my arms from turning blue and falling off. But I still want the tattoos to show.

Any suggestions?

Ball gown gloves do nothing to stop the deep freeze, btw. I speak from experience.

Oh yeah, and if anyone has any suggestions as to the best material to use for the tattoos - paint, sharpie, etc - do tell.

I am totally in love with this pink tweed fabric that I found at Joann's. I bought so much of it, and I plan on making about a bajillion purses with it.

Here is my most recent )

I made this sweater for my boyfriend. Apparently you're not supposed to knit your boyfriend a sweater or he will break up with you. If he breaks up with me because I made him this, then well I'll keep it and say to hell with him. Its not completely done though. Aside from some seaming and weaving in ends, its practically finished. No more actual knitting to do. 2nd sweater I've made. Modified from skully sweater in stitch n bitch. Go Godzilla...Roar...destroy Tokyo!

Look out its godzilla! )

Hi,
I posted last week with a dilemma I was having regarding my newfound stained glass hobby. Well... after consulting a welder friend, the Internet, and some actual stained glass experts at the store where I get my glass, (plus a tad of practice) I got things figured out. Here are my results.

I have t tell you that I am the most proud of this craft than pretty much anything else I’ve done. Mostly because the learning curve had been so high. I’m just so garsh darned excited about this stuff!

Here’s a peek of what I made.

And here are a few other images. (Caution, these images are a bit big, so beware if you have dial-up.) Read more... )
So, are you as excited as I am?
I think I might take these to a consignment boutique to sell. Yay!

hi gals

i'm wondering how to go about making items have a sterling edge ie here - i collect beach glass like nobody's business and i'd love to make some pendants. what kind of sterling do i use (are the wires/head pins for jewelry making FULL sterling, or just plated?), is it difficult to get it to look this clean, and can it be done with any other kind of metal (solder???? will solder stick to glass?)

thanks!

and newest craft:

edit: haha i so posted this before i saw the [livejournal.com profile] switchgear's great creations a couple entries back

major side note: does anyone know the username of that really cute (black?) crafty girl with dreads and plastic framed glasses whose usericon was an animated gif that was like "ahoy!.....i'm a pirate"....
