Dec. 3rd, 2004 11:20 amHi Everyone,
So I have been making the Jordy bags (as of now I don't have pics of them) but my mom's work is having a craft sale for two weeks. I was going to have her take some of the bags in to sell. How much do you think I should sell them for? The bags pretty much look like the ones here... http://www.livejournal.com/community/sew_hip/418746.html. I was thinking somewhere between like $7 and $10. As for detail in the bags I have used interfacing to make them sturdy and a few of them have pockets and some have velcro closure. What do you think???
Thanks,
brooke
edit: the bags aren't exactly the same as the ones in the link...just same shape but different design. (Sorry for using your pics, whoever made those bags.. :)...)Electronic Chipboards

Dec. 3rd, 2004 01:31 pmI'm don't know if I'm as crafty as you guys, but I'm a strong believer in the idea that there's a way to get around anything, and my current problem was the fact that I'm going to a music festival tomorrow - and I have a habit of breaking my medical ID bracelets (I'm a diabetic). So to solve the problem of the breakable metal ID, I made my own.
The $2.50 sports ID
Enjoy! (hopefully)

Dec. 3rd, 2004 03:00 pmFrom IMDB:
"Suss Cousins, an L.A. based sweater designer (whose first name is pronounced just like Dr. "Seuss"), along with two other knitters, produced 250 pieces of original knitwear for this movie (including 8 identical red-striped sweaters for Carrey, Jim) in four months. That works out to 83.3 sweaters a person in just 120 days which is quite amazing as all were hand-knit."
I hope they got lots of hand massages!
funding for crafts
Dec. 3rd, 2004 03:09 pmA program of the Center for Craft, Creativity, and Design, the Craft Research Fund seeks to advance scholarship in the field of craft by supporting high-quality research undertaken by university faculty, graduate students, museum curators, artists, and independent scholars. The fund, which aims to increase the number of creative scholars and practitioners interested in pursuing craft studies and research, supports research that demonstrates the relevance of craft within contemporary culture.
The Craft Research Fund is a three-year pilot program. Up to $75,000 in Project Grants and $20,000 in Graduate Research Grants in the field of craft history, criticism, and/or cross-disciplinary study of studio craft in America will be awarded each year.
Project Research Grants: Support is provided for research on American studio craft. The fund seeks proposals that address the goals of the Craft Research Fund through monographs on individual craft artists or themes, historical research, and cross-disciplinary research involving craft. Proposals are welcome from academic researchers, independent scholars, doctoral students, and museum curators. Grants are anticipated to be in the range of $10,000 to $15,000.
Graduate Research Grants: Support of up to $5,000 to graduate students for research in the area of American craft. The fund seeks proposals from graduate students working on a thesis or dissertation that relate to the goals of the Craft Research Fund. Proposals are welcome from students enrolled in graduate programs in any accredited college or university.
See the Center for Craft, Creativity, and Design Web site for application guidelines and forms.

Dec. 3rd, 2004 03:25 pmOk i know how awesome you guys are with ideas so i am asking for your advise/help. I have a friend who i wanted to get some invader zim stuff for but the stuff i found i can not justify my poor college self paying. There for i have choosen to make them. I mean it looks simple enough. I am not worried so much about getting the background since that is not a big deal to me but what i wanted was the main imgare of GIR and the lettering. How do you think i should do this. Should i go for an extensive stencil project or iron on transfer and which one is going to me more comfy to have your face against do you guys think?

Dec. 3rd, 2004 03:29 pmi have seen the one at DIY but i was looking for something more crafty than photocopying spines. i am thinking paint and foam and all that so that they have actual texture.

Dec. 3rd, 2004 09:43 pmI recently got a free lamp through Freecycle. I guess I saw it differently in my mind from the description, but when I got it, it was old & not so pretty. The bottom is kind of metal, but the gold is flaking off and the lampshade is kind of dirty. Can I paint the bottom? Is there an easy way to clean a pleated lampshade or is there an easy way to make my own shade? I am totally craft-handicapped, so any easy (and cheap) ideas are appreciated! :)
