A few days ago I noticed a dining room chair just sitting in the foyer of my apartment building. Wood, solid, sturdy. Not even broken/splintered/cracked at all. I waited a day, and then waited till dark and snuck downstairs and hauled that thing up three flights of stairs into my apartment. And now, I have this )

And also, I took some pictures of a few crafts I've done recently. jem shirt, mauve scarf with cream flowers, trinket box, lovely matching scarf/hat/wrist warmer set crocheted by my mother )

And now, to get started on a scarf for a girl at work.

These are the new neck-warmers I've been making. They're like smaller scarves, attached with a hand-beaded, removable broach.

More here, neckwarmers and HAT! )

I wish I had photo shop so I could make the black and white better so I could do more detail, but Id say it was pretty good for no photoshop!

Hey guys!
The other night, I was discussing what I could get my boyfriend for his birthday with him. He said he'd like guitar picks with his name on them (He plays guitar, so I am think of getting him an amp cover, a bag to carry all his wires and stuff in, and a guitar strap and all that good stuff - kind of like a guitar gift bag full of stuff) so anyways... I have checked websites and they all want $25 or higher for custom picks that come in quantities of 50 or more... I just want maybe 2 or 3 picks with his name... any ideas of how I could do that?
Much Love,
Jess

Guess what girls! I got my very first sewing machine for Christmas. I am not sure how to use it yet. I was wondering what you guys would recommend as a first project to get me used to it. I would hate to try something too hard and end up hating it and never touching it again...

if i paint over cork [bulletin board] with a VERY watered down acrylic paint, will it flake off with use?

edit: looks great, almost like a stain; i made the mix VERY thin, did a wash over it. its so 'thin' that even if it does flake off, its not really going to be noticeable. looks like it'd be easy to re-touch, too.
thanks to all who responded!

hey, this is somewhat of a stupid question.

I am following a hat pattern and using Red Heart Casual Cot'n Yarn. For some reason the hat is not making the proper hat curve, its staying flat like a doily. I've had this problem with the CHUNKY yarn as well. I want to make the hat with this yarn.

IS THERE A WAY TO FIX THIS?
WHAT CAUSES THIS?

Thank you for ANY help whatsoever:)
I'll post the finished product when i am done:)

I found these shoes the other night while I was going through some boxes at my mom's house.

My then-boyfriend (now husband) stenciled flames on them for me because we were too cheap to spring for Doc M's. ;)

He just covered them in masking tape, drew the flames, cut them out (carefully!!!) with an exacto knife and used car model paint to paint them on. There are also some tiny flames on the heel that you can't see.

Anyhow. They've been alone, sitting in a dusty box for 5 years and now they're happy and on my feet again! Yay!

edited because the image was bigger than expected. ;) )

I saw in the memories awhile back a link for the directions on making a belt out of pop tabs by overlapping them. I liked it and wanted one, and I finally saved enough tabs, but the link seems to be gone. Does anyone know where I can get the directions for making the belt? Thanks in advance!

okay, i have these little toys, like the ones you get from a 25 cent machine. I was wondering if there were things you could buy to make them into charms for earings or a bracelet. They're hard plastic, and there's not really a place to melt a hole into like i can do with some little toys.

any suggestions?

((i couldn't manage to make this into a link, but here's the url for the toys i have -- http://www.orientaltrading.com/otcweb/application?namespace=browse&origin=categoryDisplay.jsp&event=link.itemDetails&sku=39/1170&mode=Browsing&catDestinationJSP=/browse/categoryForward.jsp?categoryId=342878))

Ok. I have double pointed needles from lion brand and they are red. I do not know their gauge. Foolishly I have forgotten. Can anyone enlighten me if they have them? Thanks in advance. The dang lion brand website doesn't have the colors of the needles listed.

Also....

I knit this pink pointed pixie hat with those needles without a pattern )

I want to make a tea cozy and I have the right yarn, but I don't know if my red needles are the right gauge and I do not have a gauge card. Merf.

Prototypes of the optimist/pessimist Valentine's Day cards I'm going to make for 2005. I need to probably re-photoshop the cards because I had them sized to print on 3" x 5" index cards, but it turns out my printer can't handle paper that small (smallest width has to be 3.54"), and i can only do borderless printing on three different sizes (two of which are 4x6 or 8.5x11)..

Anyway, I printed the four of these on a single sheet of paper, which I think might be cardstock, but I'm really not sure since I just grabbed it from a stack of mixed papers in my closet. They're from a set I'm doing of optimistic and pessimistic messages.

Details behind the lj-cut.

I figure you crafty ladies (and gentlemen!) can help me with this:

My friend and I are planning to make bracelets to sell, with the proceeds going to help those affected by the tsunamis in southeast Asia. Do you guys have any ideas for the type of bracelet that we could make--something that is simple, quick, and inexpensive? I've looked into getting silicone bands (think Livestrong) made, but the minimum order quantity is way too high. Plus, it'd be more special if these bracelets were handmade. =)

Thanks in advance for your ideas! I don't think I broke the no selling rule or whatnot, but if so, please feel free to delete. It's for a good cause, though ;D
