So, I just bought some new sunglasses, and I am really hard on the stuff I toss into my purse, so I wanted to get a case for them. I like some of the Vera Bradely quilted stuff, but their soft eyeglass cases are too big for my tastes. I don't want a hard case because I keep my perscription glasses and sunglasses in a hard case and I don't want 2 of them in my bag.

So, I thought I'd try to make a cool one. It needs to be just big enough for my shades, and cushioned a bit. Has anyone ever seen a cool pattern or made a cool case? I just don't want anything granny looking. Maybe the secret to preventing that is just in the fabric I choose? hmm...

I recently bought some glass beads that have holes near the top of the bead, rather than holes that go all the way through the center. I want to use these beads at the ends of dangly earrings, but i can't seem to come up with a satisfactory way of attaching them to a chain, or just to a jump ring.

I tried putting the wire through the bead and then bending it. I broke a bunch of beads doing this and the ones that i didn't break look crappy cause the wire's not circular.

I tried making a sort of giant jump ring, so that the curve of the ring wasn't enough to break or crack the bead.

My only other experience with ending a chain with a bead is to use a regular "the hole goes through the center" type bead and just using one of those head pins and bending the top into a loop.

I'm really at a loss here. I've been sort of learning as I go with this whole jewelry-making thing, but I was wondering if any of you crafty folk could give me a few tips on what to do in this situation. Nothing I can come up with looks very good.

is there a good place online, other than eBay, to buy monster fur, or similar type shaggy fake fur with 3 inch or greater pile, that comes in multicolored shades (i.e. two or three tones to the fur)? i have found a couple of places with all solids but i'm looking for a place that would have, say, pink and purple.

So guys... know of any crafty way to frame something?
And I don't mean those little picture frames.. I mean 36"x16"

Haha. I have this huge art project and I want to give it to someone as a gift. I don't want to be ghetto and just give them the print, but I don't have the money to get it professionally framed.

Any help?

does this happen to anyone else? i went to make earrings last night & as i would bend the bead pin w/ my pliers for the little hook, it would snap! it must have happened about 5 different times! i thought that maybe it was because they're cold?? i stuck the tip in my mouth to warm them & that seemed to help about 75% of the time.

so is it because they're cold...or am i insane???

it was not so much that i feared for the warmth of my iPod, as i forsee it being a tough lil' booger, but when it returns with me back to NYC, it's gonna have a hard life. i knew it needed protection. i also knew that it needed to BLING!

Sorry this is so late but for Christmas, I made my friend a 'Sex and the City' gift basket with emphasis on Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker's character) because that's her idol ;)

Hello I was really hoping someone could help me- a few days ago I managed to find a free crochet pattern online for a hat that looks like this- and now I can't find it anywhere! Could anyone please direct me to anything similar?

Sorry for the text-only post, but I promise there will be pictures as soon as I actually make it!

since a couple of other people posted on my previous post that they too were looking for monster fur, I thought i would update with some sources i found. perhaps this can go in the "memories" section if the mod thinks it would help anyone else. i was a little surprised i had to beat the bushes so hard given how popular monster fur is nowadays - i guess if you don't happen to design clothes and frequent wholesale fashion shops or conventions where this stuff gets sold by the yard, you're kind of out of luck...

first of all, if you want a solid or possibly an animal print (although i think the prints were mostly shorter pile - i'm thinking of "monster" as being 3 inches or more) this place is good. i e-mailed them to make sure they didn't have any multi- or blended color monster fur, and they said all they had were the grey frosted type blends on their site. I was looking for something a little more colorful so that didn't really help.

http://www.mendels.com/fauxfur.html

after a LOT of digging (and looking at about 100 suppliers who (a) were not located in the US and/or wouldn't ship to US, (b) wouldn't sell you fur unless you had them make it into a garment, (b) had wholesale-only websites with no pictures, which is extremely inconvenient to those of us who just want a small lot) i found this place in PA, which seems to have a clue about what I am looking for, multicolored long-pile fur-wise:

http://www.imstuffedfur.com

a little pricey, but i've sent them an e-mail to see what else they have that's not on their website. they do have some multi 3 inch pile furs on there so I'm assuming they probably have more colors or can get more colors.

there's also an option of just spot-dyeing or tie-dyeing your own because you can get a dye product for synthetics from mendels and also there's something called SynTint that bearycheap.com sells, but i've heard that it's hard to get a dye to produce a deep color on a synthetic fur and usually you will end up with a weaker pastel. so if possible i'd rather just buy one that's been woven up as a multi.

anyway, like i said, hope this helps someone besides me.
