Eureka! Greek for 'This Bath is Too Hot' (at this point, Whovians would laugh and we all move on...)

At any rate, I have found a great way to soften that harder-than-useable sculpey clay!

Yes, yes, you can buy the sculpey clay softener (at $2-something a pop for a whole ounce....) but since I don't have any of that and it's after midnight... no stores are open in the vicinity and... ummm... I have no money *cough* I decided to try some of the Brush Flush that I have lying about.

That works so well, just pour a little bit into a small bowl and dip the tip of the clay into it and work it in until the brush cleaning fluid no longer makes the clay squishy in your fingers! (Believe me, it feels horrible the first few seconds, but then it gets to just the right consistancy.)

For a 32 ounce bottle, that's only $10. 32-cents an ounce! And you can use it for cleaning your brushes, too ;)

I still have to get a valentine/anniversary present for my boyfriend. I'm low on funds, being a college student, so I'm trying to make things. He knows his gift is going to be late so that's ok. Anyways I still have the bottles of Skyy Blue that we drank together from when we first started going out. I thought it'd be cute if I did something with one of those. I've read the faq and gotten a few ideas but I was wondering if anyone had any more. We've been going out 2 months and he's really into computers and technology and such, if that helps. Thanks in advance!

This is the second dachshund bag I made. It's a messenger style and it's reversable. The silver side is the vinyl you would see in a vintage diner on the seats with the flecks of glitter in it. The pink side is a soft vinyl.

I love this vinyl, I just need to get more of the sparkle kind but it's a bit expensive. 25 dollars plus for one yard. Eppp.

Alright ladies (and gents, all be ye few)!
I'm going to be attending a music and arts festival in April and have since been busy with small crafts: purses, crocheted items, dolls, hair accessories... I'm searching for ideas. Something hip, young, and relatively cheap to make. I searched the memories for ideas, got a few.

So come on! Lets hear 'em!

I posted a tutorial in my own journal yesterday about making your own envelopes from junk mail, wrapping paper, maps, and other trash paper. [livejournal.com profile] tyrsalvia suggested that I post the link here as well because there might be some interest from other members of this community. Here's the link to the post I made. Enjoy!

I have this small odd shaped window in my bedroom that looks out to the porch of the house and then to the street. But I was thinking instead to doing some sort of curtain to cover it that I would try to do some sort of stain glass. I was planning that I would buy some glass and then stain it and put it into the window sill area. (the window is wierd and I think it will work and not fall out)

anyone have any clue as to how to stain glass a piece of glass? Or where one would get a pane of glass or a plastic alternative?

Thanks!

My dads fiftith.... fiftyith.... 50th birthday is coming up, and I went through the memories, and the gifts for men ideas are for boyfriends, and then the fathers day section doesnt have much. Does anyone have any ideas for what to give dad?? He's into Harley Davidsons, but has everything associated with them, sailing, classic rock, cars, tools, etc.

Thanks!

(ps. how did all your valentines gifts go over? Mine were superb)

Hey everyone!

Hey guys and gals! I've been a long-time lurker (like a year and a half) I'm just very self-concious about my work, plus I don't know how to do lj cuts and all that jazz, but I will be posting some projects soon. So onto my question:

I loved the silk-screening tutorial (the one with the cow that says friend) so I got some panty-hose and my modge podge and decided to get to work. Everything looks good, but the modge podge doesn't go on thik enough to create a barrier for the ink, my ink just goes straight through everywhere. Has anyone used panty-hose for this method before, i've seen people use tulle, but I was just wondering how thick the madge-podge has to be, do I have to do like 50 coats? Thanks everyone ahead of time!

Sorry for the text-only post!

I've been crafting for a while now & I recently just bought a "real" sewing machine, I say real because err it was really expensive...

Its a pfaff & I've been trying to find out if anyone else owns one & what their feelings are on it. I'm sorry if this isn't very relevant...I have checked with places like eopinions etc, but I'd like to get some real life advice about it, if it's a good machine, if the brand is well known, common problems with it.. I'm sure some of you are shaking your heads at me.. :D

My other question is if anyone here uses a print gocco. I recently purchased one & so far I'm pleased with it, except yesterday I got the little flash light bulb holder stuck inside it, so needless to say, I had to take the thing apart & I'm not sure if I got the orange little holder at the top back in correctly, does anyone know if this is a major part of the machine? Also, can the screens be reused, right now I have several with ink still on them hanging out in a ziplock bag, I read some where that you can wash them and reuse them, but before I attempt that I was curious if anyone had any advice?

Pheww! Thanks for your patience with all my jabber! If anyone wants to add me, feel free, this journal is mainly my art/crafting one :D

Ah, see..now that makes things MUCH easier.

I just bought proper wire cutters to compliment my small collection of jewellery making tools. The needle nose pliers just weren't cutting it for wire cutting, lol :) I can't believe how much EASIER it makes things now.

Now just to get those pricey crimp pliers. I now have blunt nose, needle nose, round nose pliers and wire cutters.

Are chain nose pliers really necessary? What do they do that needle nose can't? I am finding that some jobs would be easier to do with 2 set of pliers and I suppose just buying a set of chain nose to compliment my needle nose would make sense?

I'm a pretty novice crafter who just started dabbling in jewellery making. So far I'm sticking mostly to cheap plastic beads.

Here's a link to my craft photos and my latest creation (a memory wire bracelet) behind the cut.

My swatches from smith+nobel came today. I ordered them on friday or saturday of last week and the site said it would be sent the next business day. so it took monday-friday for them to get to maryland.
I'm very pleased. Only one of them is in poor condition, of the ten... it's covered in a stringey glue. overall, vair satisified. I ordered 7 wooden shade types and three patteren fabric swatches.
Click for a pic of my favvy swatch )
As far as size goes, Including the beige border (which includes part of the swatch) this swatch is 5in x 3in. highly suggest going to the site (url on swatch) and ordering these FREE swatches.

I got some of my swatches today!!! WOOHOO!! I think that, instead of covering something with some of them like i was originally going to do, I'm just going to start sewing them together (like they're set right now) and make a ginormous quilty thing. Not sure yet, though... Anyway... here they are!

EDIT: This stupid tag doohickey won't work. guh.

Today it rained ALOT so I set to makin' purses. I took some of the ones i made earlier in the week to the girls at work (I work in a day spa with a gift boutique in the reception area). You'd think I was giving them mana. They were *so* excited. My boss wants me to bring some more in on Monday and she might consign them, which would be sweet since they are made from scraps and leftovers. To all you craft selling mamas that make purses or smaller sized crafts, what would be a fair amount? They take less than an hour to make (about 20 minutes per purse, sometimes less, and they cost nothing to make since its all leftovers). I've never sold anything but clothes so I'm not really sure how to price them and I've never consigned anything.

Here are the latest:

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/akeen02037/album?.dir=/9666&.view=t

The 1st 11 are the new ones.

Then I made ponchos out of some pink red and white soft knit cotton I bought at wal*mart for $1/yard. I've never sewn a stretchy fabric before. It was interesting. I made 3, plus a tiny one for a friends new baby (It matches Mommas, per the mommas request)

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/akeen02037/album?.dir=d82d&.src

And- I took a nap with my Burbank kitty.

I liked making ponchos.. if I could find a market (I don't think they'd do well on ebay) I'd mass market them. THey are fun and easy to do. I just cut a full circle, cut a head hole and hemmed.

Sorry for the all-text post, but I have a question...
I'm planning on stencilling a hoodie with a fishnet design.  I've already covered a frame with fishnets,  but I can't use paint on it without it smudging/the fabric moving.  Is there a fairly easy way to either temporarily adhere the fishnet to the hoodie, or to make the fishnets harder and less flexible?
Thanks in advance!

Craft Nook

Hiya,

I've been watching/replying to the community for a few weeks. The ideas are great! I especially like the Nintendo blanket, the tile/grout $5 table, The zip pencil pouch composed entirely of zippers, the Origami envelope (I *love* Origami)...

I'm not so good at dreaming up crafts, but I love learning how to make them, for when the occasion arises. Origami gift boxes and envelopes are particularly useful, to store your smaller gifts (like jewelery) in them.

I'm moving in with my mother soon after good fortune has brought us together. We'd like to have a craft nook of sorts, for painting, sewing, and everything in between. But, I don't know how to design it! I have a lot of room, but I'd like to contain it a little bit, just to keep a designated okay-to-mess area. I already have a square wood table with shelves inside for storage. What do you suggest for keeping things organized, but still available? I hate having to dig in six different places just to get that one piece of string that I hid 2 years ago...

Thoughts?

I know this isn't too exciting, but i just wanted to tell this cute thing i saw in Family Fun Magazine this past month.

at oriental trading they have these:
Paper Lanterns
and in the craft section of the magazine they had just the simple "paint these with water colors". i know it's nothing new or exciting, but sometimes we forget about simple things...as well as it's cheap and easy for GS troops/RA programs/children/etc. I want to make a lot and put them all over my room now!
