New twist on an old favorite.
Feb. 17th, 2005 01:01 amLong time lurker, first time poster. LOL
Yeah I know everyone has done a duct tape wallet, but how many have bloody masks with a knife through the eye? hmmm?
Well first off, you must understand this is a belated bday gift for a friend who is a die hard Jason/Friday the 13th fan. I'm disapointed in the pics, it looks better in real life, but you'll get the idea.
I was going to mod podge the graphics on, but I had a feeling that would be a mistake so instead I used lamination sheets on top of the duct tape and that seems to have done the trick. All the raw edges are under duct tape so it won't peel off.

i havent had much luck.
thanks.
i was planning on making stationery and bookplates to give out to people as gifts, and then possibly sell later on...but i don't know what kind of adhesive is on envelopes and bookplates...the kind that dries and then can be re-wetted to put into place.
if anyone knows anything about this, the appreciation would be huge.

Feb. 17th, 2005 09:58 amI'm starting to get serious about photography so I decided the time had
come to put together a portfolio. The problem is I don't like any of
the portfolios on the market, they're all so serious. So I made my
own...

Preserving Petals?
Feb. 17th, 2005 10:49 amMy box of crafts came back home, and I've been busy getting images together. I hope to share them sometime later tonight.
In the meantime, I wanted to ask about preserving petals. My mate sent me a special order of flowers, which is set to deliver three seperate orders. I was not expecting this, so it was quite a surprise.
I have tulips, and I just recieved what appears to be iris, lily, and daisey.
Since I got the tulips first, they're starting to look a bit wilty. I was planning to go ahead and remove them from the stems and set them somewhere. I know how delicate they can be though, and will shrival almost instantly.
I considered plucking each individual petal from each sprig. I also considered how to preserve them. I'd rather go a natural way like air drying, or pressing them so I can use them again later. For pressing, I was thinking about putting them between something... some sort of paper and then placing them between some heavy stacks of books.
I can't remember for the life of me, if I were to simply hang them somewhere, what are the ideal conditions to get the best dried flowers?
An area with low light, cool, but not too damp? Hard to do here in Louisiana with our humidity.
Would it even work for tulips? They are so delicate, but I want to try anyway.
Anyone else have any experience drying or pressing flowers or herbs for crafty things? Have ny sites to recommend? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Feb. 17th, 2005 03:54 pmThis isn't nearly as crafty as most grrls who post here, but I wanted to share nonetheless...
The dollar store by my house brought in a whole tonne of mac tack sticky paper in all sorts of really different prints -- leopard, cow, etc. I've only ever seen it in white or frosted, so naturally I absolutely fell in love with them all. I ended up buying a few rolls of a flower print that reminded me of those classic blue ceramics and used it to decorate a box in which to store my magazines.

DIY lingerie?
Feb. 17th, 2005 03:55 pmHey craftgrrls
I was wondering if any of you have a source for lingerie making supplies? Specifically, I'd like to be able to buy:
* bra strap closures
* bra strap elastic
* little slides and buckles that fit onto the bra strap elastic to make it adjustable.
* elastic lace trim
* garter belt clasps (the part that holds the stockings onto the belt)
* other cute elastic trims for use on panties
* stretch lace and other interesting *fashionable* lingerie fabrics, especially prints.
I want to be able to buy these things in a reasonable range of colours, but I'll settle for just black and white if necessary.
Ideally, I'd love an Internet or mail-order store that ships to Canada, but also feel free to tell me about any real stores that have this stuff in the Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver.
Just so you don't get bored with my text only post, here's a random lingerie craft I had saved in my files: Look! I'm making pottery panties!!( Read more... )
Thanks!!

random question (text only - sorry!)
Feb. 17th, 2005 04:22 pmI want to begin this by saying that I know we aren't allowed to sell in here, and I really am not - I just have a serious question about selling posibilities! If this is deemed inappropriate, just let me know!
Anyway - my fiancee is a huge fan of origami, and he asked if I could make him a "Origami Emergency Toolkit" - with room for paper, scizzors, a tweezers, and possibly a folding tool. I immediately started planning, and what I have in my head would be around 4 inches by 7 inches, sturdy, black pleather outside, zipped up on three sides, opening like a book. I am convinced I could do this and do it well. Brandon (my boy) thought that if this does turn out well we could package it with a bit of paper, a scizzors, a tweezers, and possibly a folding tool, and sell them on ebay!
So my questions ... a) do you think anyone would actually buy this? b) I could probably manufacture these for around $7 a pop - would 15 be a good price? More? Less? I don't know how much time I'd be putting into them, and I want to know if it would even be worth my time!
Thank you all for your help in advance!

Feb. 17th, 2005 06:57 pmIve been making some chainmaille earrings lately and I want to photograph them in a way that will look nice. A better camera would help, yes, but I also dont know what to display them on. For you gals out there that make and sell earrings, what do you use for a display for selling or even taking pictures? Nothing too spendy since I know I could go buy one of those display heads or something.

Scrapbook Theme Idea
Feb. 17th, 2005 07:34 pmA while back someone was asking about themes to use on a scrapbook other than the traditional "Christmas" or something like that ~ well as I was finishing my Chinese food the other night, I popped open my fortune cookie & pulled out 2, yes 2, fortunes:
"Your smile makes the world a lovely & beautiful place"
"Isolating yourself from others will not prevent you from being hurt"
I thought that you could make a very fun Fortune Cookie themed scrapbook, using the fortunes as captions! I could see either of those fortunes above making the right picture quite funny ;)
And ~ to go along with the theme you could use all sorts of Chinese stuff to decorate the pages. Like characters, Chinese knots, origami ~ so much fun!
(I am actually about to dive into this whole scrapbook thing, so I will first be making "College" & "Wedding" books)

New to Crafting.
Feb. 17th, 2005 08:36 pmHello Everyone!
I'm new to crafting about, but due to some pretty stressful times, I've taken it up with absolute abandon.
Right now, I'm working on a chess set made of Sculpey. completely non-standard set, of course since i'm not particularly good at copying anything.
I'm sorry, but for now I don't have any pictures. They are coming along rather well, though and promise to be rather cute when all is said and done.
My question relates more to the business end of these crafts. I'm not sure if it is an appropriate question to post here, but I was wondering how all these auctions for the crafts has gone? Have any of you used this method? Does it work nicely for you? Is there really a market for these things?
I ask the last one because I've found everything so easy to do and so much fun that I don't see why more folks don't take it up themselves. It's so relaxing.
I look forward to seeing more of everyone's great work. There are some incredibly talented people here!

mokume gane with polymer clay
Feb. 17th, 2005 09:19 pm
i've been doing it a while, but i just got a long, thin, flexible blade to do the slicing, i'd been using a double edged razor blade, dangerous, and not so effective.
but with the clay blade i whipped these up in under half an hour.

Baby Cakes
Feb. 17th, 2005 09:58 pmMy sister Lucy is about to have her baby any day now! eek! She knows it's a boy so that will be my second nephew awwww!!
Instead of getting her flowers or toys etc I decided to make a "baby cake"!
I'm sure I've seen these on here before
It's made from rolled up nappies (diapers to all my American friends) which are tied with ribbons. then I just tucked in little socks, mittens, dummies, bibs etc and put a bottle on the top.
It's supposed to look like a cake...........
What do you think? I think it's cute and she will be able to use all of it too!

I love pink!
Feb. 17th, 2005 11:24 pmI bought this beautiful pink collared shirt at Value Village, and thought it just needed something to make it so much more beautiful. It was so fast and easy, and I love the way it turned out. There are a few little messy spots, but it's ok, I'm still new at this, and am pretty impressed with myself.
