I made a few necklaces the day before yesterday to give to the shop I'm selling them at, and I really like how this one came out :

Bigger, better pic )
The chip beads are carnelian, the round reddish brown ones are made from sea fossil, and the pearls are real. The Tree of Life pendant is pewter and the clasp is silver plate. It was fun making this necklace with its carefully arranged randomness.

I've had this tshirt design in my head for a while, and when I recovered the link to a lady who'll inexpensively make custom screens for you yesterday, I decided I had to bring it into being.

It was a bit of a team effort between me and [livejournal.com profile] moukin. She gathered up the bottles in her house & took a snapshot. I decided on the empty Captain Morgan's rum bottle, and she measured the label area. I made the "label" in Photoshop, being extremely picky with font selection as usual. She printed it, filled the bottle w/ iced tea, and photographed the bottle with a white background. I hauled it into Photoshop and created what you see. I think I'm going to rework it a little yet, to bring out more details of the bottle, so the area where the liquid was doesn't look so blacked out. But I like it. :3

Heya- I'm casting resin in ice cube trays, and the ones made of hard plastic come out beautifully smooth and shiny, but the ones in flexible rubber moulds get funny marks on them and dont have a clear surface. I guess the rubber just has a weird texture that you can't see when you look at it or something. Can resin be polished? If so, what should I use?

The only reason I'm not just using hard trays is I've only been able to find them with a kind of 'nipple' in the bottom so they come out with this horrid distorting dip in them. While this can look cool depending what you're casting, as a rule it just looks very...ice cube. Oh so if anyone in the UK has a website/place that sells perfect hard ice cube trays that'd be ace too.

Thanks so much, sorry for superdull text only. I see a lot of resin stuff in the memories so I guess you guys would know!

Thanks to everyone who commented positively on my last post.  I don't make much jewelry.  I actually started out making the rosaries and prayer beads I have below, then kind of got into jewelry as a side-effect.  It's nice to know I'm not a total loser in that respect.

Wanted to share with you the main thing I do: prayer beads.  I started out wanting to make a set for myself, then I made two, and then I had some beads left over so I tried another thing, and it grew and grew from there.  I'll be showing my work at an Art Show at the end of the month, so I'm a little nervous.  Under the cut are the ones I completed recently with a wee bit of explanation.  The pics all pretty big, even the smaller ones, so people with dial-up should maybe run in terror.

I saw this great votive candle holder and knew it would make a great pin cushion. (It's a link to my non-livejournal blog) Did you know a sobe bottle cap is roughly the same size a a votive candle? It made a great base!

For those Canadians who have a Fanny's Fabrics nearby, I've now seen 2 stores that are closing out.

Lots of sales. Patterns are buy 1, get 5 free (must be same brand). I just bought 6 Simplicity patterns for 6.75.

Fabrics are 50% off. Everything else in the store (including magazines/books) is 30-50% off as well.

(Edit: No online store. Retail store in mainly in Western Canada)

I made a third in my series of little girl dolls - this one is Shoshanna and she has bunny ears and a nice pair of blue shoes with little purple flower buttons.

It's weird how my crafty productivity goes up when I'm meant to be doing something completely different.

Warning to dial-up users...it might take you a while.

Because I felt eh and drained tonight after a week of chaos - I just bummed around a bit and googled. I came across a little something cute I may be compelled to make :]

Cute, eh?

What is even better is there are instructions and patterns! Yay!

Instructions:
http://crafts.jp/~greimama/usa-tukurikata.htm

Pattern:
http://crafts.jp/~greimama/usa-katagami.htm

And because the instruction page is in html text: my favourite Japanese/English translator:
http://www.nifty.com/globalgate

Enjoy!

Thread Art

I inherited boxes upon boxes of silk thread on wooden spools from my great aunt. The colors are so beautiful, that I had to display them in a special way. I bought two rustic wooden shadowboxes at Michaels and arranged them with little knick-knacks on the top (a ball of yarn, needle, thimble, vintage buttons) to use the extra space. One of the boxes (see blow) has my first initial "A" in it. The other box has my last initial "M".

This semester I took a book arts class. It was a lot of fun but threatened to kick my butt at times. This is my final project, an edition of ten books, wrtten and illustated by me. <3 The photos really suck, but it's the idea behind the whole thing.
