is it possible to remove cement from fabric? i just inherited a Michigan State hoodie from my boyfriend and it has dried cement on it [small spots.] I wanted to turn it into a pillow and suprise him with it.. so.. yeah. I washed it, tried sanding it out [which just made lots of lint and softer fabric].. I don't want to bleach it. I considered buying a green colored fabric paint that's close to the color of the hoodie and just painting over the cement..

help :[ please.

i'm fairly familiar with the process of making papier mache mulch, but i can never get it to an extremely fine consistancy. i was wondering if anyone knew the secrets behind paper clay. i love using it, but i'm wondering if it could be home-made as well.

Lately I am obsessed with making purses!  Can anyone tell me if this kind of purse has a special name and where I might find a pattern?  Thanks!  Also, I've been really crafty lately.  As soon as I have time to sit down and write the post, I will have a bunch of goodies to show you!

First things first, I have (well, will after I type this post)made [livejournal.com profile] pmthreads a mod to help me with all the posts (did you know that we usually have at least 20 posts a day, often up to 40?), and to keep the memories updated. I see her comment and post alot, and am excited to get a chance to organize this community with her. I have a couple other mods in mind, but neither have answered so far. *edit* The ever fabulous [livejournal.com profile] themoonfell has also agreed to help me, and she is a mod over at [livejournal.com profile] _stencilry, and, I think, [livejournal.com profile] nonuglyfats, so please welcome these 2 incredibly talented crafty ladies.

Now, regarding a recent post or two, I want to remind everyone that [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl is an open forum that is here to not only support each other craft-wise, but also on the "grrl" side. If you are easily offended by vagina- or sex-related crafts, this may not be the community for you. LJ-cuts for "not safe for work" (NSFW) items are requested, but I am not going to censor icons UNLESS I or other craftgrrls are in danger of being arrested just for viewing them - ie: picture of a naked woman/Kerry/frogs humping = A-OK, picture of a man molesting a child = NOT OK as this is pediophilia. That said, here are LJ's rules on icons; follow these and you should be alright. If you are still worried about icons, you can modify your journal so that whenever anyone posts to [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl, you will see our icon instead of their personal one.

If, even after all this, you have a problem with someone's post or icon, please contact me or another mod before going to LJ-abuse - we are all friends here, so let's act like adults.

Please remember these guidelines for posting:
- lj-cut any large pictures/more than 1 or 2 small pictures
- tell us how you did it! We're here to learn from each other
- before posting a question, ALWAYS check the memories, Google (stick "DIY" in your search to make it easier), or even the Google bar on our info page (it is very picky, though, so good luck)
- if you put what your post is about in your topic, then it is easier to find in our calendar(view subjects mode)
- always try and scan back at least a few pages before asking questions, and when asking, they MUST be specific - no "what do I make for...?", those are to be asked in [livejournal.com profile] crafty_gifts
- please either link (info on how to link here) or host photos yourselves - people have to pay for their bandwidth and stealing it isn't cool
- NO BUYING/SELLING/TRADING. Take it to your own journal. Do not posts links to your own webpage (I usually let it slide if it is in the comments after somebody asks, but please do not just post a link to your page as an entry).

Failure to comply will have your post deleted. To edit posts, open your entry and click the blue pencil at the top. More info on editing here and here.

Please try these communities for specific questions before you post, as well:

Remember, these rules can be found on our info page and in the memories. Ignorance of "the law" is no excuse.

My contact info is as follows:
MSN: cokerocks @ hotmail.com
AIM: IntrepidSidekick
Yahoo!: WhuppinCoff
ICQ: 41601569

The only one I can guarantee I will be on is MSN.. hopefully the other 2 mods will leave their info in the comments, and will edit our info page to include it (mine is already there).

I've been watching this community for a while and I love to see all the cool stuff you guys do. I've recently come to the crafty side, mostly making pagan rosaries and malas. I have also made a few pieces of jewelry for myself and others. Today I finished one for me with my favorite stone (moonstone) and a new pendant.

Well, last night I had the pleasure of learning how to crochet, so I have made my first crochet project - a cell phone cozy! I took some pics to show my fellow crafters. I also put a box of the same pattern with the pictures (please forgive the blurry suckiness, I only have a webcam -.-)

Does anyone have any idea where to start with polishing shells? I want to make a pendant out of a shell, but I want it to be nice and pearly and shiny like the ones that cost a pretty penny in the stores are. Anyone ever tried this?

I work at an independant craft store, and have been volunteered to teach a beginning sewing class. Great! I love teaching! But. I have been sewing since I could walk. I have no idea how to structure a class or what is too much information.

Anyone here newer to sewing and have suggestions?

This is my current plan. )

Thank you!

Hey. This is the first time I'm posting anything, though I've been a member for a long time on various LJ names. This is the first beading project I've completed in a long while, just thought I'd share, and I'd like to know what you guys think. Thanks. :) Hope you all have a great day.

Note: I apologize for the craptacular photos, I'm still getting accustomed to my digital camera. ^_~

I ran into a problem a few days ago. My little female doxie Lucyfurr went into heat and to spare you the details she is spotting. I usually put a little denim diaper on her which she hates with a passion and will pull off rather quickly. Being I'm not going to breed her this heat and I don't want to get her fixed just yet because her next heat I want to breed her I have to keep her from ruining the carpets in my apartment.

So I came up with this modification to a baby jumper. Ok, so all I did was cut a hole for the tail and stitched around the edges but I also attached a soft piece of cotton as to umm well I'm sure you can figure it out? I'm trying hard not to gross anyone out. I'm sorry if I am.

Anyway, because of a previous post about t-shirts for dogs I thought it would be cool to share my idea for modifying baby clothing for your pups. This jumper cost me about 3 bucks at Target and took me less than 5 minutes to modify it.

BEYOND

(x-posted to my journal, [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl, [livejournal.com profile] handmadebooks, [livejournal.com profile] photography)

The worst photographs ever of my book -- I'll reshoot later.
I'll also be posting more details & the actual photographs (& more that didn't make the final cut) over at this link:
http://shar.orbit3.org/projects/apple_sp05/

I worked on this from 9 AM to 6:30 PM straight with no lunch break.
I had dinner from 6:30-7:15 PM, then looked over the final book to find that I had made a single typo on four pages -- had to carefully unglue pages from the guards and replace them, then add final touches, hand-sign, etc.. finished at around 8:00 PM.

So what is it? It's my final photography project - a collection of 15 photographs telling a "fiction" story of Mr. Fuji Apple and his adventures. It begins with photographs & text (told from Mr. Fuji Apple's narrative view) about the beginnings of his life (born in a tree, finds himself at Safeway, then is taken to a fruit bowl) -- he is about to be eaten, so he escapes and goes on an adventure around San Francisco, CA. I would have included more photographs, but the lab is closing for the semester and I didn't have time anymore to work on more prints, so I cut it down to 15 (from about 40 work prints I had).

The book totals 36 single sheets of pages - one photograph per page, some text, introduction, details about the book, about the artist, title page, and blank insertion pages (about 3 or 4).

The text pages were printed on a Canon PIXMA 3000 on double-sided matte paper. The photographs were printed in my school lab on Ilford RC Pearl 5x7 paper. They are attached onto black paper with photo corners. The covers are made from this wonderful textured sage & gold scrapbook paper I found at Michael's.

I bound the book using the "sewn-on-tapes" style binding, but used ribbons. I then attached the ribbons onto the covers so that it opens/closes portfolio style (as seen on [livejournal.com profile] charmserum's sketchbooks). Tiphanie Brooke must have a ton of patience - sewing over ribbons was frustrating for me, and these covers were even more frustrating. Definitely worth it, but they're not perfect, and I am amazed at her work. The book closes with velcro.

Ok - any other questions/info you'd like to know, go ahead and ask - I'm being rushed to go play Guild Wars with my boyfriend and our friends.. ha. :)

More photos are behind the lj-cut.
