I've never done anything with wool before until last week.
A friend asked if I could make her some wool soakers. I thought "why the efff not". You know?
Only I have found nooo patterns for what I wanted, so I freehanded it.
My dye job sucks, but hey I tried...and plus got some cool leftover woo to make a bag with.

So yeah..on to the pictures.

Here is what they looked like pre-dye job.

Here's how the look post-dye job.

I take it as a good sign that she wants more? :)

Also, how do I get my colors to be vibrant? I used one package of koolaid, one cup of water and one ounce of vinegar.....like..per each thing of koolaid.
I used 2 sets of that for everything.

Will letting them soak longer make the color brighter?

I finally finished knitting Marvin from Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy. I made it as a surprise for my boyfriend.

Another picture )

I used a combination of this pattern (the eye chart on this one is nice) and this pattern and made up a few steps as I went along. If I get some time within the next week, I'll try to write out a pattern of exactly how I made mine.

Just got an email saying that BeadBox is having a 50% off going out of business sale. (Beware, their website is currently HORRIBLY slow. I have cable modem, and it is really really slow. I'm not kidding.) They carry a variety of beads and findings.

EDIT: Their Swarovski crystal prices look to be pretty close to wholesale. The silver looks pricey to me, as do the cat's eye beads. The storage container prices are eh, ok. I don't remember my opinions on some of the other pricing. The slowness of the website turned me off.

finished two things in the last month. i finished a shrug for my mom. its out of a mohair *sp?* yarn, very thin, and nice, but sheds like anything, and a finished this tank right now, and had to take a pick of it, not the greatest pic, but got one anyways, might make a few adjustments, but i wanted a hand made tank for my trip to edmonton, im going on a road trip and i always like to have something i made for it, and this just looks funky, and uses up quite a bit of my stash, and frankly i like the lime grean that i worked in there...

I saw this done in a decorating book and also on Trading spaces.
You take four canvases that are the same size, paint them in four solid colors and then hang them together as one piece.
Paintings )
The colors are Plumb, mustard, brown, and a redish color that I didn't like at first.
This is above my large couch in my living room, the wall there was sooo blank and so huge. Now it seems a lot better. I can't wait to buy some throw pillows and a rug to tie the colors in to the entire living area.
What do you think?

I seem to have a problem making cards. I'm not using cardstock, just construction paper. When I use more than one layer to make the body of the card, I always end up with a really weird fold. I glue the pieces together when the card is in half and when I unfold it and lay the card flat it seems like the pieces aren't matched up or something and the top layer gets bunched up at the crease. There is probably a simple solution to this like gluing the pieces in a different order. Anyone? I'm sure pictures would help, so if no one figures it out by the time my dad gets home with the camera, I'll edit to post some. Thanks!

Frames?

Does anyone know where I could find a bunch of 4''x6'' plain frames for really really cheap? I have an idea for a project where I'd need probably at least 20 of them... so I'm looking for $1-3.00 max prices here.

Thanks!

he's also very happy that he's made of wool,
so he'll never go moldy! he hates mold.

and here's my [livejournal.com profile] pancake_meow-inspired cake slice:

out of a tuft of wool, huh?
this yummy cake slice is 1" tall
from bottom layer to mini strawberry,
and just over 1" long from icing to cakey goodness.

So I bought a sewing machine, but they don't actually expect me to buy all of my thread one color at a time, right?
Is there something like the Crayola 8-pack, but for thread? The only thing I've found is a million colors and a million dollars (ok, $70some)
**edit** i think my real problem is that i live in a city and the micheals and joanns i used to frequent are in the suburbs. lately, i've done most of my craft shopping on their websites.

In this post I am promoting my community.

It is a journalling community whose focus is on alternative journalling books, that are sent to members for their contributions and then mailed to the next person. Anonymity will be preserved in every way possible. The purpose of the books is to provide people with an outlet by which they can voice their fears, desires, secrets, experiences, whatever they feel they can't normally share with people. This idea is loosely based on Post Secret (http://postsecret.blogspot.com/). There will be a minimum of two books circulating through the member pool so that it will be impossible for people to know who they received their book from or who they are sending it to. A place to be truly human, NOTHING, is off limits.

First off, Part of My Friend Katie's Graduation Present )

Second, I started making paper! ^_^ Yay! But my first sheets turned out as the equivalent of cardboard paper towels. Any way I can make them feel not so...paper towel-ish?

Third, I was wondering...I'd like to try to make and sell my dream catcher earrings:

Do you think I should bother or it would just be a waste of time? (Basically, would people actually buy them?) If I did sell them about how much should I charge?

Just some questions to accompany Judge Judy. ^_^ Tell me what you all think. I'd greatly appreiciate it.

rahhh I couldn't find this in the memories.

I bought this beautiful dusty teal velvet peacoat from ebay for $3. The only problem? It smells like old closet. I tried washing it/drowning it in fabric softener sheets but it's still there. And it's raining here so I can't air it out. And might I add I really don't have the $8 for dry cleaning..

I add vinegar to get the smell out, right? How much, and will this affect the colour? Thanks!

the miniature tray used in each
picture is apporximately 1" square.
i'm all about the tiny.

i'm thinking i might turn these
teeny tiny sushi bites into charms
and make a charm bracelet.
