My boyfriend and I are moving into an apartment in August. We've decided on a decorating scheme. We're going to have a "world" theme.... it started with a lamp I saw in a consignment shop that had a shade made out of a map. I thought it was the coolest thing and I mentioned it to him. He liked the sound of it.... and then later when we were looking around, we found a map clock. That's when the idea clicked in my head - let's center our decor around maps and globes and different regions of the world and different ethnic decorating elements! It'll be easy to make a map lampshade and clock.... and I think we want bamboo shades for the windows... We probably want to decorate the kitchen mainly in a Mediterranean theme, focusing on Italy. I don't think we're going to have a country or region for every room, but it seems like a cool idea to base the way we decorate our kitchen on what most of our cooking is inspired by - Italian and Asian cooking.
We've already bought some cool looking samurai-style swords... My mother has found some awesome cups, a serving tray, and coasters to fit the theme.
We also would really like to find some multicolored tiles and newspapers in various languages and decoupage/tile a coffee table.... perhaps decoupaging most of the table and bordering it in tile.

If any of you have any suggestions for lamps, a clock, or anything else, that would be awesome.

We've also decided that once we move in and get settled, we're going to have a moving-in party. I would greatly appreciate any housewarming party tips.

Thanks in advance,
Nik

One day, my best friend Jarrett and I went to the liberal store downtown. And we stumbled upon a bumper sticker, and Jarrett goes "EMERALD... I WANT IT."
He's graduating today... in about six hours, actually. And I thought it would be a nice addition to the gift I already made him.

so this is my 3rd bag. i'm not sure if i'm gonna keep it or give it to someone. i have the same fabric in pink and yellow flowers. (wal-mart... $1!)

lookie-lookie! )

i have a question, also: i really don't know what kind of material i use, but it is thin. is there anyway (besides doubling the fabric) to make it more sturdy? any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for checking it out!

I got a Xyron machine yesterday and used it to decoupage the drawers of the storage set I bought from Ikea a few weeks ago to hold my sewing and other craft stuff.

see the pic! )

I used some wrapping paper that I bought with decoupage in mind when my son's school had their annual Sally Foster fundraiser. The Xyron made a sticker out of a whole sheet and then I cut a piece for each drawer facing. I just finished putting varnish on it and I think it turned out really nice.

In the bottom right corner you can see two almond tins that I also used the Xyroned wrapping paper to decorate... Now I just need to go after the magazine holders and I'll have a whole set :).

Yesterday I went to my friends house and made these two beaded flowers. I have one more to make, and they will be turned into a bracelet. This is my first real beading project ever!

And another of it in my hand, so you can see how big it is:

Has anyone made one of these, before? Tutorial, instructions, anything. Help please?!?!

Edit: I have the basic idea on how to make it. I'd just like some instructions to compare, or tips from someone who has made one.

Okay I need some good quality crimp beads, they don't need to be sterling silver I just need some that are reasonably priced.
Any ideas where I can get some? Online is good because I don't have too much in my area.
Thanks in advance.

Quick question: I have a pattern that gives two different fabric lengths depending on "with nap" or "without nap." What the heck is a nap??

A little something something of what I've been up to. The pants were of an older style, I prefer to have a little less taper, a little more flare at the ends these days. Now I can wear them again, whee! My iPod was getting rather tired of being carried around in an old mitten, now it can aspire to be like Hobbes someday.

i finally traced one of the patterns i've been working on, onto some fresh bear-brown paper. then i tore out the pieces. note to anyone trying this, don't be like me, shade the pieces of bear before you assemble the creature. yes, i am that dumb about crafts, that is why i didn't want to make one, but my roommate challenged me, so what could i do.

i assembled the pieces, discovered the body i'd made was way too small, so i ended up with a pervert bear. i'll be adjusting that pattern and making another one. now that i've done it, i have to do one right, one that doesn't look like he's touching himself.

i can see why patterns would be wanted (duh, i found a niche in the market i could fill, that is how i got started with this whole thing), i've noticed many incredible crafters need a pattern at least once to get the feel for it . . . but he was pretty easy to do, so i don't see why they sell on ebay for $2-5.

It was a DIY bag hobo type bag, black with a light colored liner and the straps tied together... Who was it that made this and do you have anymore for sale??

Acrylic paint, fabric medium, and cheap solid color shirts. No stencils or anything like that - I've always found that I can do better, faster work with paintbrushes.

I just got my new sewing machine two days ago. It's a Brother Ls-2125 I got from Walmart for $80 dollars and I just love it. I've never had a sewing machine before so it's taken me some time but I ahve three great projects to share! They came out amazingly well for me not being used to a sewing maching.

So today I finally caught my mom to get her to show me how to get the sewing machine set up. She showed me how, and off I went, making my first (good) bag. ^_^ Not afraid this one's gonna fall apart at any second. haha Also, I didn't forget to turn anything inside or right side out for the first time. ::n00b::

I've been crafting almost nonstop lately. It's super fun. :)

I'm redecorating my room (kinda), and it has kind of a Gambit (from the X-men) feel to it - Mardi Gras feather boas wrapped around the curtain rods over my windows, and everything playing card / poker chip themed. :) I've been buying/asking for cards from everyone I can find, and I felt like using a couple to make some picture-marble tacks for when I put up my bulletin board again (of course, after I paint it and decorate the border. ^_^).

Anyway, long intro for two pictures. I cut up a jack for them.
