i was wondering if anyone would be interested in taking part in a themed craft swap? have a general theme and maybe a money limit on supplies so no ones going insanely broke buying stuff to send off to other people. if your interested, comment or email me at lady_blackflames at hotmail.com.

and so its not just a text post. heres some hairpins i made, as well as my very own pms bag.

and a mop for variation )

hello kittens!
i know question posts are a tad boring, but you were all so deliciously helpful a few weeks ago with my question on organizing my sewing patterns (they are in ziploc freezer bags and they all fit perfectly into a small box...and all of my collage magazine cut-outs are in a binder with the clear paper holder-thingys that was also suggested) that i thought i'd ask for some further help for today's dilemma. (my goddess that was quite the run-on sentence!)
here goes...
i was given an enormous gift certificate by a dear friend for fabricland (big chain sewing store in canada) and i decided that now would be the best time to get all of the utility type tool stuff that i've never had the money to get.
so i have a list so far of:
*weights
*cutting board
*rotary cutter
*pinking sheers
*really good ruler with all the 5/8 type measurements on it
*a plethora of bobbins and needles

and i was just wondering if there was anything else that any of you could think of that you find to be an essential tool with your sewing?

i'm leaving in a coupla hours so the quicker the response the better. but i'm sure i'll be going back lots. there is no way i can spend the whole amount in one outting...well maybe. ;D

thank you in advance so very much!
happy crafting friday!
:D

Totally cool purse in my LJ friend's post! I'll post my version of it when I find some brass knuckles and make it!

P.s. he's a cool LJ poster, if you are looking for new LJ friends. He posts interesting news everyday.

... or just leather in general.

i want to paint on my boots, but the last time i did it, it eventually rubbed off. i'm currently using acrylics and was wondering (specifically) if something like a fabric medium would work for leather. what would you suggest in general for painting on leathers? any specific paints? technique? a sealer or glaze? a medium or additive?

My recently finished crafts include: a piggy bank (made from a balloon and newspaper), a shadow box (made from a discarded wood box), erasers, and sushi soap.

So this summer I'm going to the Czech Republic and needed a creative fun way to raise some money, so I decided to sell my jewlery! I work at a craft store, so it's super easy to get all the supplies I need (and I end up going overboard!) and see what new items come in and what not.

So without further ado, here are *some* of my creations!

Beware lots of jewlery underneath! )

I finished this little plaid bear today. She is made from a 100% wool scarf that I bought for $2 at a thrift store and then felted in the washing machine. Her features and dress are made from wool felt. She says hello to you.

[livejournal.com profile] clydiebaby posted in another community a link to these UV sensitive beads.

You can even put sunscreen on them and when they change colour it tells you when you need to reapply. I thought some people here might be interested.

Okay, borrowing from a post earlier on a college survival kit: what about a high school survival kit? Any ideas? (my sister's considerably younger than i am- she's graduating eighth grade and she needs something cool.)

^_^ Hey guys. This is mystic_knight. by_mystic is my new jounral. ^_^

Anyway, I made more paper!!

YAY PAPER!! )

I also made some more dream catcher related things at the high school graduation last night. I seem to be on a dream catcher spree as of late... Graduation is a sad time, but the band gets soo bored just sitting there waiting to play "Pomp and Circumstance" over and over again. O_o Funny thing...they made people who had bookbags leave them at the door...I came with sissors and needles in my purse... ^_^ Hehehe...

Other than the paper, I made the dragon on my icon for my website. But that's really all the crafty things I've done recently. O_o

Have a great weekend!!!

After all the eye candy floating by on here, I had to take a stab at the kanzashi. The catch? I still can't sew. The origami attempts were dreadful.

So I made my own out of clay fabric )

a friend just moved into a house with a big window high up on the ceiling, so she wanted to do a grouping of them. so i made her the suncatchers behind the cut

picture )

i've been using glass beads, and i'll be stopping that. i want to make one for each of my friends that wants them, but i've been using three bracelets worth of beads for each suncatcher, and yikes.

and they do such cool things with plastic beads, i can't wait to make the switch. these things are also hell on dremel sanding tool. the plastic melts on them and renders them smooth and useless. i'm wondering if using one of the grinding stones would be better. i'm also planning to get a round diamond bit so i can cut glass, maybe that will work. the dremel cutting disks are impossible to use with any accuracy on the CDs, they disks are just too big. any thoughts from fellow dremel users would be greatly appreciated.

patterns?

so fitzpatterns.com has super cute patterns. best part, theyre free. worst part, i cant print them out. have any of you guys successfully printed out patterns from here? i've looked all through the adobe help files and googled it and havent had any luck at all. also, what kind of paper is best for copying patterns onto. ive thought about newspaper, but does it get ink all over the paper? once i get this printed out ill post pictures instead of pesky questions.

im looking for crafts for my church. im looking for kids ages 5 to 12, boys and girls, crafts that take up to 45min to an hour to do, and cost $5 or less per kid. I know that this is pushing it a bit. but i need some more ideas! I got sighned up to do summer day camps, and i have run out of ideas!

Thanks for all your help!
Kutrina,
Vancouver, BC

*edit*
I have acess to just about any suplys i just need to keep it to around 5$ per kid, i work at a craft store so it shoulent be to hard to get things, and i want to stay away from finger painting and stuff like that, i want to do interting things, as the parents will be paying money for the kids to go to 'Camp' ect....

*second edit*
We are wanting to do the craft to have little to no religious condentation as possable, as it will mostly be a 'camp' and not witnessing to the children.

Well, I made an "informed impulse buy" today... I went to Joann's for some stuff and they had Xyron machines on sale for 50% off. I've been eyeing these things for a while now but couldn't justify the price. A few days ago they hubby told me that I had some extra cash in the bank that he had "borrowed" from me a while back so I decided to splurge. In case you haven't heard of them, a Xyron is a "cold laminator" that can make stickers, flat magnets, full laminates, laminated stickers and laminated magnets... I got the 900 model that lets you make things up to 9" inches in width.

You switch out cartridges for the different functions... Mainly I bought it for laminating but it comes with the sticker making cartridge (I go back tomorrow with my 40% off coupon that starts tomorrow and get the laminating cartridge). I didn't think I'd have any uses for the stickers, but I've already "decoupaged" a 3 drawer storage cabinet from Ikea, a round cardboard box and two round nut tins with some of my favorite wrapping paper.

What else can I make with this thing?? Any ideas beyond the obvious?? Supposedly you can put fabric through it as well as paper... I know there are tons of possibilites I haven't thought of yet!

Hello:
I am not sure if anyone has covered this question or not, but I have a pair of bright red converse high tops, and the color just doesn't do it for me anymore. Not sure why.

Anyways, has anyone ever bleached converse and re-dyed them? Do you think if I were to put them in some bleach and wait a bit, they might turn a light peach/reddy-pink color?
If anyone has done anything to alter the color of their converse can you post?

I need ideas, otherwise I guess I can live with bright red ones haha.
