So I am starting on my first non-scarf knitting project. I chose something out of the Stitch n' Bitch Knitter's Handbook...the "Manly Sweater" on page 210 (in case any of you have it). I'll just type out the whole start of the pattern so...

With MC and larger needles, CO 97

Set up row: k3, p1*K5, p1, rep from* yo last 3 sts, K3. Work in K5, p1 rib as set for 16.5. At the same time, work 8.5 in MC, end with a WS row, then work color pattern (which they describe prior to this.)

Now, my question is, what is meant by "at the same time?" I don't understand at all. I talked to my grandmother about it--she has been knitting for like 60 years--but she had no idea what I was talking about.

And so I turn to you guys. Help please! I am all panicked...hehe...

It's been so long since I have made something, and even then, I'm only semi-proud of it. I used real stone this time, I usualy use glass, but the beads were on sale. The ovals are labradorite and the coins are tourmalated quartz.

Okay so...

As of late I've been on a crafting spree making message/memo/bulletin boards/photo holders, the type made from ribbon and fabric. When I made the first one I didn't have any intentions of doing it as anything but an experiment. Once I saw how easy (and addictive) they were to make, I find myself not able to stop. I've been giving them out quite religiously as gifts to friends and family. A friend of mine suggested that I could sell these, but I just don't know.

Here is a 5x7 one that I made using Strawberry Shortcake fabric. )

It roughly cost me four dollars to make this using a dollar wooden frame from A.C. Moore. It comes with two holes and a little wooden dowel so that it can be propped up. The backing wouldn't fit so I used a piece of card stock cut down to fit in there. I think the back is pretty decent as a gift but selling wise, opinions please?

Here is an 8x10 using a dollar picture frame from the dollar frame )

This size can cost between six and seven dollars to make. This time the backing did fit in place so I just hot glued it down and then bent back down the prongs. Again, I think the back is pretty decent as a gift but selling wise?

Using a canvas... )

Using a painter's canvas is going to add anywhere from 2.50 to 4.00 to the cost of making, however the backing does look far nicer. I inserted a piece of foam into the back and glued it down. I forgot, however, to snip the string from the buttons.

So, opinions or pointers or any other type of advice or critique would be mighty appreciated.

Eat and be Merry!

Made an item for my kitchen! I'm happy with the way it turned out.

Hi! I am cleaning out my workshop today and found these:

There are some red and pearly-looking decorative gems, reddish/orangish stones, shells of all different sizes including some itty bitty ones, and some marbles. I want to make something out of them, but am so overwhelmed with the sheer coolness of this find I'm too excited to think of something doable.

And in keeping with the craftiness, here's a stool I painted:

This is my first item to post. I love everyone's work on here! These are some felt flowers I'm going to use in a variety of ways. They're the first of many felt things I plan on making. If anyone wants more info, just let me know. Hope you like.

So, I have a couple of knitting questions.
First off...I'm on my last row of stitches on a tote that I've been knitting. Last night, I picked it up to work on it a little more, and I discovered that my circular needle had broken. The plastic piece from the middle had come off of the needle end. (bad description, I know!) This is my first time working with circular needles, I was wondering if this was common with these needles. What types of circular needles (if any) do you use that work well?
My other question is about double pointed needles. I was in a tiny yarn shop a couple of weeks ago. The woman working showed me how to knit a tube using two double pointed needle. Of course, though, I can't remember exactly how she said to do it. I know that she would cast on like doing a normal project and knit the first row, then slide the stitches to the other end of the needle. I tried, and it just was not working for me. Does anyone know how to do this or know where there is a tutorial for this?
Thanks so much!
Sorry no pics...I'll post them of my bag once it's all done!

Crafted for my husband for Father's Day. He loves it. He's been playing with it for hours and it is holding up quite well :)

I'm working on dying an outfit for a baby and need it to be scarlet red.  Since kool-aid is gentler on the skin than other dyes, I tried cherry and it turned pink.  What can I use for red?

so, remember the sock monkey fabric and the banana fabric? i finally decided to sit myself down and make something out of it!

So yea, I ran out of canvases... and was trying to kill time until the food I ordered for Fathers Day came. So I painted on some bags.

cupcake on a shoulder purse

80's rubix cube on a tote bag - The blue on the tote bag looks a bit dark in this snap, but its brighter. And the black has some wet spots still (thats the shine up top) but its nice and dry now and I cant wait to use it tomorrow! Rock on!

Hello everyone,

I had two questions.

1. How many of you have gone through with the official part of crafting business? Such as  copyrighting, licensure, tax related items, etc? I'm gonna get going on that soon.

2. I don't have a standup sewing machine, but I do have one of those HandyStich machines haha Do those hold seams well enough?

Any and all comments would be very appreciated
Thank you!

More items coming soon :)

So I finished the 5th bag to add to my collection of bags for Kustom Kulture.

(do keep in mind that my camera distorts the colours. My bags are 10x prettier in person than on camera!)

pinky mcpinkypink

pinky really has no name so shes stuck being called pink until shes renamed by her new owner. she was commissioned by a dear friend of mine who only said "pink and black." when i preseed for details i only got: "oh i dont know, whatever you want to do." very helpful that one.

nonetheless i really like how pinky turned out.
