for some reason, i got the idea stuck in my head that i needed a tote bag and a patchwork bag. i combined the two, and made a patchwork totebag. it's the first thing i've ever made patchwork, as well as my first attempt at a tote style bag.

On the 25th, I'm going on a two week writing trip to London. Woo! The program I'm going with sent everyone little blank books (Well.. they're big flat, hardcover, and with very few pages). They told us not to write in them until instructed, but that we could decorate them.

Any ideas for other traveling crafts? I mean, crafts to hold stuff while you're traveling... organizers etc. Well, anything, really. I need a new craft project (badly).

So my friend's birthday is coming up and she has this thing for anime and all and somehow I got to the thought that maybe I should make her an felted anime dude/thing/whatever. (Grammar Nazis please don't kill me)

Wow, to all you needle felters out there. It's not as easy as it seems (although it's not really HARD) and that may've been a duh but yeah. It looked literally like a piece of turd at first and making the hair was heck (think spiky asssymetrical anime hair) so I just settled on "curly" (?) hair. At the moment, it's bodyless but my other friend says I should just keep it as a head so as to avoid future destruction of a semi-decent job.

Oh, and that random white thing on her head is a pom... pom? Suddenly the word escapes me, but those round things that are sometimes on top of beanies. The hair was causing me grief, so I ended that problem right quick. OH yeah.

Forgive my semi-delusional entry. :) I just woke up with an urge to share and so I'm still in that one-eye closed, the other eye-squinting, confused yet enlightened state of mind. But I just wanna say you lovelies are vonderful and talented! (killer combo, donchakno?!)

I was looking for cement stucco for stenciling a pattern on bricks for the garden.. and I saw this stuff

Does it work on brick or belgian blocks? Will it hold up outside, or do I have to put a laquer or sealant on it? Has anyone used it, and how did it last over time?

Vest

This year I'm teaching preschool from ages 3 to 5. Every day has a different theme, last year there was Farm Day, Health Day, Insect Day, All About Me Day, etc. This year I thought it'd be fun to make a vest to match the days I teach. For example, Insect Day might be a bumblebee print fabric with flower buttons and a butterfly pin or something. So I looked in memories for websites with free patterns but they either didn't provide vest patterns, or when I did try to download the pattern all I get is a load of Java Script. So does anyone have a vest pattern on them or know of a website where I could just print it out? Maybe someone is extremely bored and might want to do a tutorial? Thanks in advance ladies =) I'll post something soon, I haven't had time to craft anything lately, my machine Betsy isn't cooperating lately

Can anyone give me advice on making chandelier earrings?
What type of wire and beads do I need to use?
I made an attempt (but have no pictures) and it was so terrible I ended up just looping the wire into a teardrop shape, and then putting it on a fishhook ear-post.
I just want some kind of outline for which to make incredibly big purple chandeliers.

I want to dye some tweed shoes. I am assuming all tweed is wool. If so:

  • Can it be dyed?
  • Can it be dyed BLACK? and
  • What sort of dye do I need to use?

Thank you in advance!

hi all,
i was just browsing through the memories and came across a couple of things i wanted to look at tutorials for, but the linsk were dead. does anyone have new/updated tutorial linkage for making undies out of tee-shirts and for making big tee-shirts into smaller tee-shirts? (btw, i'm trying to head over to t-shirt surgery and check that FAQ but i'm on BLEEPING DIAL-UP right now and it's taking forever.)

thanks in advance!

Do you think that the eyes are too high? I can either leave them as is or i can cut the threads and hot glue them slightly lower.

I've made a bunch of kanzashi style flowers, like the one above. My question is, what kind of glue do you recommend for glueing felt to the metal bobby pin type things i want them to be attached to?

I tried used duco cement, and they pull off pretty easily :(

i've added a few pictures of the next few projects that i want to make. the first one, i want to make it out of either wire mesh, or a beaded net. the problem is, i don't know where to get a pattern for a beaded net that has close enough stitches to hold up wire, and i can't find many places that sell the type of mesh that i'm looking for. any suggestions?

do you like odd veggies? )

my problem with this one is the wire. i don't know how i'd assemble a drawstring bag so that when its being closed, the wire will also form into a closed shape. should i stitch the wire onto the bag in a few places? also, has anybody ever used a bead reamer? if so, does it work well with pearls? i'm probably going to need one for the bag, because i want to be able to fit a few pieces of 26 gauge wire through some of the pearls.

also, my sewing machine is acting funny. every time i try to stitch something, it won't stitch properly. it'll do something like this: ----____---- where the dashed line is the stitch and the straight line is thread that didn't go though the fabric. when i turned the fabric upside-down, there was so much loose thread. i'm probably going to have to get it serviced. here's some pics of what i'm talking about:

Heya,

....long time lurker in craft communities, first time X-poster.

Got excited cause I made my first pair of earrings and am planning to attempt some knitted jewellery! :D

Basically per earring it's about 5cm of gold beading wire (midstrength), 3 fresh water pearls, and the hooky earring ...thingy (argh the name escapes me).

Here's a horrible picture (my camera is dead and I resorted to my phone) 2 Aquaish Fresh Water Pearl Earring )

The page on the left was some studies from a Tiki culture book I was looking at when I was at the bookstore that I painted with gouache when I got home. And the hula girl on the right was just a gouache painting inspired by it all.

I am working on a craft journal so I can take it to craft shows with me. Mainly I just hated not being able to show off my orders, so I came up with this idea that combines a catalog type feel with a journal type layout. Oh and don't forget it is scrapbooking which I love!

Okay on with it.

Tonight, I made a deer!

I was out of felt and pom-poms...so I had to finish him off with beads instead. I used purple kimono fabric for the body and a teal/green coloured kanoko shibori silk for the accents. It is a little wonky, but practice makes perfect, I guess.

Cool little fact – the word kanoko literally means "child of deer" – it is believed that the dots look like the dots on the back of a fawn – hence the name, kanoko shibori. Rather suitable, considering what the little guy is :]
