Click the teaser to see my new bags! Feel free to add my (just created!) journal [livejournal.com profile] craftsies as well, I needed a place to show off my creations outside my regular journal. I'm sure a bunch more stuff, as well as some tutorials, will be going up soon.

Could someone explain Lomography a little bit better to me?

I've gathered that Lomography is done with a special kind of camera where the results aren't totally perfect, but it still looks pretty damned cool. It's also a bit of a philosophy in the sense it doesn't matter what you take pictures of, or how things are posed, it's more of taking pictures of life.

I've noticed that some people have been talking about it on this community, so I figured I'd post here. Sorry if it's off topic.

i finally made my own slippers!

i crocheted instead of knitted. i like to use really big needles/hooks, and 2 strings of yarn. so that it goes faster, but is still thick enough ;)

Hi everybody!

I was wondering if anyone knew of any tutorials for those tiered "prarie" skirts that I see so much of these days.

thanks!

hey, I've been lurking and commenting for a few months now. I keep forgetting to take pictures of my stuff so I havn't posted anything. But now I have a question; I'm reorganizeing my sewing room and I was wondering if anyone knew a good way to organize fabric. Right now I just have it stacked on a shelf and I keep forgetting what I have. Any help would be apreciated. Thanks!

Well. Freakin' finally! This is my first post
ever in here, as I've been a lurker for...
ever.

So I made some earrings. &I'm pretty proud of
them. Don't mind my blurry pictures. I think
my camera has been slammed more than it should
have been. Ha.

I'm on a 3 week break from school and decided that I want a new wardrobe for next quarter. So I figure... If I can make a shirt a day for the rest of break, I'll be set. So expect lots of posts from me for the next few weeks.
Here's what I have so far...

Aloahe!
I painted a canvas a few days ago. The gargoyle on the picture originally belongs to Notre Dame Cathedrale in Paris/ France.
I found a picture online and photoshoped it to make a huge stencil out of it (the Canvas is actually about 1m high)and
here is what i came up with:

Someone posted a absolutely adorable skullbead necklace a week ago or so. I wanted to try something similar, but also the hempnecklace style should be included (cause i just found out how to tie those correctly). I wasn't able to find any nice looking skull beads, so i made some out of white polymer clay and then coloured them.
Skully Hempnecklace I
Skully Hempnecklace II
Skully Hempnecklace III

I may write a tutorial on how to paint those skulls if someone is interested. It's pretty easy to do so, if you figured out how to.

So this is my first post, so hopefully I'll be forgiven if I make in faux pas.

This week I made myself a little headband because I was tired of my bangs falling in my face every 5 seconds and because I was itching to do something at least half way creative. The fabric actually started out as a pillow I was making for a friend: I was going to sew on buttons in the shape of a flower and also her name... but I never got around to finishing it. Laziness. But I digress, I sewed a bunch of buttons on haphazzardly and sewed an elastic strap on for the back because I'm really just too lazy to tie and headband. I think its a bit wide, so it falls a bit to far back on the head... but it gets the job done. I'm contemplating completely covering the band in buttons... but I'm not sure yet. Getting my hair caught in buttons when I pull it on doesn't exactly sound like a great idea.

Modeled by my lovely cousin

I wish I had better pictures of it, but I never even meant to take this one... in reality I was just taking pictures of my cousin and she happened to be wearing it. I hope everyone can get the gist of what it looks like at least... even though it kinda looks like a siesta mask lol.

well, i'm back yet again with some questions. oh, and i brought pics too.
1.) i have been searching since 6 am this morning (it's now 1:30) for a free online pattern/tutorial to make a simple tube/halter/tank top. i was wondering if anyone had a tutorial that i could use. pretty please? [oh, and thanks in advanced. i am planning to make something to wear this sat. to a party.]

2.) i have a box of vintage fabric that my grandmother gave me that she collected over the years from the 20's till the 70's. i wanna use them but i dont know what to do with them. i might use the dot fabric for a tube/halter/tank top (given i get/find a tutorial on how to make one). i dont have much of the fabrics except for the navy/white dot, plain white lace, and the sheer small dot i have a little more than 2 yards or so. does anyone have any crafty and useful ideas on how i can use the fabrics. [perferablly not to 'embellish' jeans/pants or bags/purses.]

Two questions for the community:

**Has anyone ever tried to dye any sort of suede-type fabric (not actual suede)? Any tips? I have an idea in the back of my head that there's a chance that it will look splotchy, but I don't know why I'm thinking that. And if I'm matching a color, should I still go a shade darker while wet, or 2 shades? Also, has anyone ever come across a stretch suede, or am I looking for something that doesn't exist?

**I am attempting a project that involves gluing overlapping pieces of clear mid-weight plastic (like you would use to cover furniture). When I tried Krazy Glue, it got all cloudy. It needs to be permanent and clear -- any suggestions? Is there something from the model car world that might work? Maybe an epoxy or something of that nature?

(Cross-posted in a couple of different places, so apologies if you see this twice)

Thanks! This community has helped me tons in the past!

So I bought a record player that looks like that at Value Village, the other day...
However, it doesn't have a needle, this elastic part came off (and I don't konw where to put it back on) and basically I just can't get it to work/ spin...

So I think it's quite obvious that I should just save my money and buy a new record player.

So the question becomes, what can I do with this kick-ass record player??

Does anyone have any tips for putting zippers in small small bags, like coinpurse size, or clutch size? It seems mine always get bunched up or my binding doesnt match up in the end or some other horrible thing happens. I looked in the memories and didn't see anything that would help in the "zipper section".

And so its not a text only post, heres a medium sized coinpurse I made last night. )

does anyone here use nymo beading thread to make stranded necklaces? does it hang well?

A friend of mine just asked me which would be the best dye to use to tie-dye his lab coat (a high school science teacher). He said that he would prefer to dye one that is mostly polyester, cotten blend. He can get a 100% cotton coat to dye if needed. I remember someone saying either Rit or Dylon could only be used with pure cotton ~ any advice? (I've only used Dylon before & I don't think I even looked at the clothing tags first!)

I made a bikini! It was way fun. I've been wanting to for a really long time. www.edgeofurge.com bikinis totally inspired me. I've made underpants a million times before and also I have tiny boobs, so I didn't think it'd be that hard. It wasn't!

The bottoms are a double layer black with white underneath so I folded the top over to show the white. The edges are raw, but will not fray, just roll, which was the look I was going for.

Question. Removed if this isnt allowed.

Okay so I got loads of acrylic paint and only two colors of frabic paint. If I mix Frabic paint with acrylic paint and use it as a stencil.. would that work? I know that just acrylic will fade or wash and bleed all over the place. I know you can mix and base with acrylic. But what kind of base. But overall i just want to know if I can mix frabic with acrylic. Any ideas?

I am planning to reconstruct a Nightmare Before Christmas shirt for a friend's birthday. I wanted to use black and white striped fabric for the side panels but I can't seem to find any black and white stripe fabric locally or on the Internet. I want something similar to the sleeves on this shirt. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I made these bags and much of what is in them to give to my friends when I asked them to stand beside me in my wedding.

Presenting the will-you-be-my-bridesmaid bag reveal complete with photos! I was very excited to put these bags together for my ladies. I wanted them to feel special and to show I really thought a great deal of them. I ♥ them.

All agreed to be in my bridal party! Giddyup! :o) I am a happy bride-to-be. So without further ado - the bags, their goodies and the maids!

lots of pictures, some rather large... Sorry! )

So... this has been cross-posted all over... I couldn't help it. I'm too excited... *looks ashamed and shuffles feet, trying to hide a smile*

My aunt and uncle have a cottage that my family visits quite frequently and last summer we collected Manitoba's version of seashells, clam shells, they come from a lake. Anyway, my sister and I made a mobile by drilling holes and then stringing them onto part of a broken lampshade.

Oh Mickey, you're so fine. )

Stenciling on denim, yay or nay?

I am planning on stenciling the RENT logo on my friend's denim Dickie's bag...

and I've never stenciled on denim before, so I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not.

Tips would be wonderful.

I made a challenge to myself to make a monster a day for the month of June. And here they all are! The month of monsters!

The monsters and me! :D

You can see individual pix (and their names!) of them on my lj. :) All of them are hand-sewn, no patterns.

I had a blast and it was a great challenge! I'm going to take a few days off, but I have way too many monsters in my head that need to be created to stop for too long...lol. I actually started sewing little monsters earlier this year...before then I hadn't really sewn much. But a little practice goes a long way! My monsters are looking better and better each time! :D

I made this last summer actually, but I still think it's cool. I painted and decoupaged my desk, then put a sheet of plexiglass on it.

I was inspired by artwork of Fred Tomaselli but mine is an unapologetically meaningless and less cool version.

so i was lacking inspiration.
i ended up going out to my sewing room and pulling out a heap of awesome fabric and making a mess and draping it over my mannequin lola.

then i started thinking about the fantastic 80s music video's i'd been watching with my friend yesterday and i remembered the video for 'love is a battlefield' (i can't remember who that is by) [edit by Pat Benatar i've been informed]

and this is the dress i made:

So sorry. I've been doing a lot of things lately that I don't normally do, so lots of questions have arisen.

This time around: What happens if I oversteam when setting fabric paint?

It's a gift and it got a little too puffed up. :(
[identity profile] elmoe.livejournal.com
i don't post enough, but my main craft is cross stitching. i'm trying to get into other things and seeing everyone's posts on here is really inspirational. i do make jewelery and soap (which i've posted a few times) but i don't have a good work space for jewelery and soap is really expensive and time consuming (plus i have no where to sell it right now).

anyway, this wasn't the point of my post. i wanted to show everyone the awesome find i got for $20.00 at a yard sale on sat. it was a nice box of beads, wire, findings and the tools to make these really cool bracelets. unfortunately there are no instructions on how to make the bracelets so i hope someone here can recognise the tools or maybe the bracelets (even though the picture i have of them really sucks). here are the pictures of what i got for the $20.00 and the bracelets. *WARNING; the pics may be a bit big cuz i only resized them in photobucket. sorry!*

and there are some stained glass tables my mom made for friends and family members. her first one is the one with the 3 tulips and she's only made these 4 so far. they're below the bead pics.
