I'm getting a good start on my very first scarf (garter stitch, size ten needles, red) but the thing is, I bought the super duper cheap 100% acrylic Red Heart thread (why sink the money into it if I don't take to knitting?)... and while it's turning out nicely it's a little rougher than I would like it to be. How can I soften it up without ruining my work?

The following is 73 yards(I don't include the 'iffy' yards that I don't like...I never do.) of complete and total YUMMY yarn! Super bulky to the max! I'm in love with it, I really am! It goes totally against how I 'typically' spin but it was requested that I do it that way and I love, LOVE, LOVE it!

I'll take better pictures tomorrow in the daylight, for now you get pictures of my horrible house lighting. Blah on that eh?

What it looked like BEFORE I spun it, as a big mass of fluff!

I like to make a lot of jewelry but have trouble sometimes finding cool beads. I'd like to have some nice leaf shaped ones but those seem hard to find. Where can I find these and other cool beads?

Does anybody know where I can get roving that's just bits and pieces of color from other projects? Was that the most vague question ever?

and so it's not text-only, my latest scarf and tribute to The Life Aquatic:

Has anyone here ever painted a mural?
I just recieved a bussiness proposition from my friend's dad to paint a mural on his pet store's wall. And I'm interested in doing it just because it sounds like it would be an interesting experience.
Any certain paints/brushes that would be best? Tips/advice?
Do you just freehand everything, or did you have a little help (a overhead projector... anything)?

Sorry if these are lame questions. I've just never done it, and I would appreciate some advice from you wonderful ladies. :)
& if you've painted a mural, could you provide pictures?
& also... any ideas for what I could paint? It's a natural pet shop (sells all natural food/snacks/etc for pets).
THANK YOU!

This is the first time I've posted anything I've made. This skirt took a while to make because it's like 11 pieces and every piece is slightly ruffled. I wanted a cool skirt like all the ones in the store, but they're too expensive and crappily made. So I made this from white muslin. I first dyed it with RIT dye, big mistake it almost completely washed out. So then I got some of the good stuff from Dharma Trading and did it again. It came out awesome anyway.

I made these sea glass, rock and shell pendants by wrapping copper foil around them then melting solder over it. I perfected it now and they look pretty good. I think I might sell these to make some money to buy some new beads. I want to do real silver but I've got to get a torch. Anyone know of some good soldering iron crafts?

Here's the story ...

I have these pants. These pants are made of a blue camoflauge polyester. When I was much younger, I had the same pants much smaller. I saved those smaller pants when I got the larger pair in the event I wanted to make some sort of ... something to go with them. Thing is, I've never thought of anything to do with them.

Does anyone here have any ideas?

So when getting the paint for my last post, I saw the paint chips and thought "oooohhh... pretty. I bet I could do something with these!" And I kind of went crazy and took one of almost every color.
I have a couple ideas in my head, but I was wondering if you guys had any ideas!
Thanks!

Hi! I'm new. I've posted in other DIY communities, but not this one. So, without further adieu, I made a couple things. )

Oh, by the way, I have a lot of black clothes that have faded pretty badly. Do any of you know of a good black dye that would stay and make it pretty and black again?

I've been making some macrame jewellery, but at the moment the only place I know to get beads and hemp cord is Wal-Mart. I live in Halifax. Does anyone have any ideas of other craft stores that sell hemp cord and beads? I find the stuff at Wal-Mart is really poor quality and if it doen't fall apart then it is too thick to get the beads on. To be honest I don't really know what I'm looking for. Any ideas?

i resized a hoodie for my boyfriend!
so my boyfriend has gotten FREAKISHLY TINY over the past 3-4 months and i had stolen one of his hoodies to wear myself (sadly..i am a size larger than him, so he gives me all of his M clothes.)
and today i thought, well hell that isn't fair that i took your stuff! so i decided to resize it for him.
i did it the ghetto way. turn inside out, pin where needed, sew.
its okay, could be improved but i am laaaaaaaaaaazy

Hello again everyone! Yesterday I had an adventure. I made earrings! This is my first time with beading, but everyone makes such lovely earrings that I always want, so I was very inspired to try by the posts in this community. I know mine have a lot of amateur's flaws, oh boyyy do they, but I am still very proud of them and happy.

So I'm in a Professional Women's fraternity (for musicians) and I make letter t-shirts all the time. They're just your standard two-fabric letter shirts. I think I need something new to make this year, I have enough letter shirts to last me a lifetime. I've also made a few small trinket boxes, but that's about it. I do have an old sorority tote bag that the letters have started to rub off of that I'd like to re-cover and do something with.

If anyone has any ideas for a neat wearable or crafty project involving my organization's letters or symbols I would be most appreciative. Our flower is the rose and our collors are Crimson and White.

Now that I've satisfied the need for hot picture action I have a question. I'd like to knit a twin size blanket and I'm wondering how many skeins I will need. I've seen patterns that call for up to 18 skeins and I don't think I'll be able to afford a nice Rowan or Tahki in such quantities. I've already designed my own pattern for it and I'd like to see it in all its glory.

P.S. I'm a bad grrl. I bid on 3 skeins of a chocolate brown merino wool. I hope I win!

Hey crafters. I'm looking for strawberry jam recipes that don't require those packets of pectin. Any help is EXTREMELY appreciated!!! ♥
[identity profile] lingeringxsoul.livejournal.com
Sorry if this is unwelcome or has been posted (I looked on the last few pages and didn't see anything), but Target is selling yarn for super cheap. It's in their dollar section at the front of the store, and they have furry, confetti, and other novelty-type yarns, each $1 skein containing 90 yards. Considering the stuff is usually at least $6/skein (in my experience), I thought it was a pretty sweet deal.

Happy crafting, everyone!

craft question. I am particularly inept at everything. meanwhile, I would like to have horns. deer horns. (edited by deletion of the example,
which was setting the wrong one.
)

does anyone have any idea how to go about this? real horns are
a) still attached to the skull of the original inspiration
b) too heavy! plus,
c) not very vegan of me.

I'd imagine a headband setting, but. where does someone find hollow plastic horns?

I want to make my dress for my boyfriend's homecoming dance this year. I wanted it to look nice, but not super formal. Something a little casual but not slobish. Does anyone have any ideas? Pictures and or links would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

x-posted a little

Does anyone have a "recipe" for plantable seed paper? Like, recycle your old newspaper in a blender, add something or other liquidy, mix in some flower seeds and coloring, shape it, and let dry sort of thing. I've recycled my own paper by just adding some water and Elmer's, but I would think that would impair the seeds from growing. Any ideas are welcome; thanks!
