so I started to unravel a sweater, and I realized it was one that was made by cutting up strips of knitted fabric. I decided to unravel the sleeve anyways, because I was bored and had already started...

So I have a crapload of strands of yarn and I have nothing to do with them. Do you guys have any ideas?

Also, is there anyway I can tell the difference between a sweater that was made with only a couple pieces of strings and one that was made by cutting up already knitted fabric?

Also, is there anything I can do with a sweater that's missing one arm?

thanks!

In the holidays, I work at a school holiday program for kids aged 5-13ish. And I'm in charge of the arts and crafts bit...except every holidays I sort of end up doing the same things (like paper hats/crowns and the like) and since the same kids come pretty much every holidays, they get pretty sick of it.

So I was wondering if anyone had any cheap and easyish ideas...?

Text only, my apologies. I'm crocheting some stuff that I'll be posting when it's done. I'm working on things to donate for needy families this Christmas.

Which brings me to a question. I like crocheting purses, but they're floppy. I keep reading about interfacing, and well, I'm a dolt. Do I sew it in or do I iron it in? I don't have a sewing machine and stink at hand sewing, so ironing would be great! I'm trying to find a used sewing machine though and then I get to teach myself how to sew. (sigh)

But what is interfacing other than it makes the purse stiffer and not-so floppy? Is it expensive?

I'll post pics later today or tomorrow to make up for the text only. Please help a sewing dunce and tell her about interfacing! :)

I found these random pieces of a discarded paper wasp's nest. They are mostly small pieces and I'm thinking of a colage or something but I'm asking if anyone else can think of some other ideas. I'm fascinated by the muted layers of different brown and tan colored wood pulp that the wasps used to create this fabric/paper. Just thought I'd pop in a give this question a try ^_^ Thanks in advance everybody!!

The UCF Women's Studies program, in association with the Orange County Project Linus chapter and the Blanchard Park YMCA, are having a handmade blanket drive to benefit survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

The requirements for donated blankets are few:

  • Only handmade blankets accepted
  • Blankets must be large than 36" square, and no larger than a twin bed
  • No-sew fleece blankets are recommended for hurricane survivors
  • Any knitted or crocheted blankets will be donated to local charities

If you have any questions, or want to find out if a Project Linus chapter near you is also participating, please visit their website at http://www.projectlinus.org

If you are in the Central Florida area and want to help, either comment here, or send me an e-mail

my bf is looking into airbrushing for some models he is planning to build.. when he's not looking, i'll probably sneak off with the airbrush to work on some art stuff hah. anyway, i was wondering if any of you craftgrrls do any sort of airbrushing & what kind of information do you have to offer, eg: what supplies would we need to get, what brands, average cost, etc. also, there's a class that michael's is offering sometime this month for $25 (two days) and we were wondering if that was a good idea or not. it says supplies are included.

thanks in advance for any info ^_______^

ETA: What type of compressor would you recommend?

Question...
I am going to start a knitting in the round project, but I don't have my stitch markers.
Does anyone here have an idea of something else to use? Maybe safety pins? I'm not sure...haha.

Sorry this is text only...

I looked through the memories and couldn't find anything.

Since target had the $1 yarn, i decided to buy some and try my hand at crochet... I know how to, but I'm not sure how to make a scarf, or if it's possible at all... so, a little help please?

EDIT:::Okay okay, i got the crocheting part down, now i ask of you...is there an easier way to crochet the fluffy fuzzy yarn? or should i just give up and use a different kind??

(oh yeah, and I'm getting a digital camera this week -SO- i'll post pictures of things soon!)

The shirt did not quite sail on course, I messed up the last e and the D has a little extraneous paint, and I just realised I forgot to touch up one of the Rs...but still, I think it turned out pretty good, I'm still a beginner at stencilling.

I'm sure this was the place I saw this, and I've searched the memories and can't find it now, but . . . Someone here made knitted cat plushies once. Realistically shaped, too. I was wondering if there's a pattern anywhere, because I'd like to try making one for myself.

So I started knitting officially tonight! I can now cast on (although not well and I don't really understand what I'm doing!) and I made a stitch!! Oh yeah, count them, ONE baby!! I gave up after a little while cos I was using my super posh hand dyed yarn (which smells likes banana skins?!?) and didn't want to ruin it but yay :) Thanks to everybody who suggested things for my last post and I'll keep you all posted as to how far I get in the near future. Thanks again guys, you rock :)

Maybe i'm just retarded, or maybe my crimps are too small...

but it seems to me that crimps don't 'stay' on memory wire? i wanted to use them to make some floating bits on a memory wire necklace, but they just seem to flatten out all funny and then slide around anyways...am i doing it wrong? or is it just the fickleness of the wire?

if i can't use them..what *can* i use to make floating bits on memory wire? or am i..uh..s.o.l ?

and i have all this crap to photograph and show off, but i'm tired, so..well sorry about questions only with no showoffs!

ok so i made these and they came out pretty well except that they are too big so they kinda slip off my feet when i walk in them. my question is, what's the best way to shrink something knit with acrylic yarn, or is it even possible? i was gonna just try washing and drying them hot and see if that works, but i don't want to ruin them so i wanted to ask you girls if you've had any experience with this...

here are some other booties i've made for your viewing pleasure )

My friend brought me back this organic tshirt from his uncle's co-op, but gasp and horror, it was MUCH too large! Scissors to th rescue! I lightly traced the outline of a tanktop I like the fit of onto the fabric, then cut it out with a small seam allowance, and sewed the edges back up! Because it is cotton knit, the raw edges aren't going to fray, so I let them stay and do that natural rolling- bit;)
